I am reorganizing my business and will be temporally deleting my website, how do I cancel my site but retain the domain name?

Let me just clarify, first. You said "temporarily deleting" your website. Does this mean that you are expecting to bring it back up when you are ready?

OK, so if you are planning on bringing the site back at some point, you would not want to delete the site. My best recommendation would be to close the account temporarily, but you will want to reactivate it before May. That is when your domain will expire.

My question has not been fully answered.  Can I keep the domain name by paying for it after taking down the site?

You cannnot still pay for the domain while just disabling your site. You would have to fully delete it, which is not reversible. That is why I asked if you were planning on using it again in the future. We do have a domain only plan, but it would require you delete all content on your site.

What are the steps to make this happen? I would like to cancel my site but keep my domain.
What is the first step? thanks!

My recommendation would be to create a new site on your account (don't choose a design or build anything) and switch your domain association to that blank site. You can then delete the old site and that will allow me to switch your plan.

Ok so I dont want anything else to do with homestead.com. Its too complicated for me and I never understand anything the reps tell me.  I am still shopping around to transfer my domain so I can keep it. But I dont want to keep paying for homestead plans. How can I get you to release my domain back to me? Thanks

The only way to "release" a domain is if you transfer it to another registrar. So you will need to figure out who you are moving to and transfer the domain to them.
