I will give Homestead a trophy for consistency, but if I was Homestead I would not be the least bit proud for earning this particular trophy. I sat down here today fully expecting to NOT be able to log in to sitebuilder, and unfortunately i am not disappointed. Well, actually i am disappointed. But by now, i'm not surprised. When i phone in to support they like to use the dodge that i am the only one having this problem and it's all my fault for having a large site. But anyone coming here to the community sees very quickly that i am not alone. Misery doesn't love company, but it sure does poke a big hole in their attempt to put the blame on me!

I don't enjoy coming here to bitch. I just want/need to be able to work on my site. And  i need/want/expect to get good, consistent, reliable service. Isn't that supposed to be part of what i am paying for every month? Homestead is obviously having some sort of problem here. How about paying overtime wages if necessary. Work over a weekend until the problem is fixed, instead of just sending the staff home on Friday evening to enjoy their weekend while we all just grind our teeth in anger and frustration!!!!

Darrel what is the site address and what issue are you having?

Unfortunately it's the same issue i've been having for approx. 2 weeks. Sporadically i am able to get into sitebuilder plus, but most of the time i get the the page of the login process with the 3 flashing blue balls, beneath which are a couple of words of text ( forget just what the words are). But it stays on that page grinding away until eventually an error message comes up (error #41 if that helps).  Two questions i can't help but have are: (1) if this problem is due to my large size, then why are others having the same problem; and (2) if the problem is because of the size of my site, then how is it i am EVER  able to get logged in?

NOTE: I just checked, and my login attempt has been partly successful. I'm on sitebulder, but it's only a blank white page.

Why won't anyone just admit the truth and confess that homestead is having a problem and that one of these days they will consider it important enough to do something about? I'm tired of being lied to while nothing is being done to fix this!

Here are some things to try for the blank page issue:

  • Click on page settings and then on backgrounds, links & footer and toggle the background. You can switch it back right away. It will refresh the editor page and should make the contents appears.
  • Try loading your site in a different browser
  • Logging in and out a few times has helped some people with this issue
In regards to the rest of your issues, you might go through your image files and delete anything you aren't using. If you haven't optimized the images, that may help with site size as well as making the site load more quickly in the browser which is important to Google, et al in terms of placement in searches.

You are in the right place to get some solid advice. Drew is especially helpful in resolving issues and will be back in tomorrow.

Maybe i'm not "techie" enough. I'm really not clear on what you mean by toggle. I went where you suggested and tried to change the background color in case that was what you meant. The color chart came up and just stuck there.  And there you go down the same tried and true path that everyone at homestead seems hellbent to travel down. Yes, i have a large site. I routinely on a weekly basis clear my cache, so we don't need to go there. Does everyone else currently having this same problem also have a large site like mine? If not, i guess that eliminates my large size as being the real culprit here. Why does everyone at homestead have this same stupid determination to dodge the real bullet here by trying to blame me instead of admitting there really is a problem and attempting to correct it? Is the real way of fixing this just not fit within the corporate cost/benefit analysis?

Darrel, I am not a Homestead employee, simply another Homestead user like yourself with several years of using Homestead under my belt. And given I can't see your site or what exactly you are doing I can only guess at what might help.

Hope you get the answers you want.

My apologies for attacking you Susan. I too have been with Homestead for several years. I was here a couple of years ago when this same sort of thing happened during the month of December that time. Sitebuilder being lost to us that time lasted until sometime in January. Maybe that has something to do with my lack of patience this time. Is that same nightmare being repeated now? I just don't know if i have the patience to stick around for another dose of this, especially when my attempts at phoning tech support get me nothing but lies and telling me that all my problems will all go away if only i would delete at least half of my site.

Thanks for your input. I will not bother you any more.

Hi Darrel, Susan has been helping Homestead users for some time now and I am sure she can help you, please give us the name of your website it seems that would be a good way to start.

Hi Darrel, lots of interesting .gif images. If it's one consolation your site is visible on the internet and Google lists it.

Thanks. I had been able to the site via chrome so i know that what i'm going thru is only a behind the scenes issue. But what's the point of having a website if you can't do any of the behind the scenes work that needs to be done every now and then.

Once again Homestead has managed to put a damper on what i hoped would be a pleasant day. Hope your day goes better.
