I need to create a DNS record that proves to Google that I own the domain -- How do I add the TXT they sent me?

Log in to homestead.com and click on the domains tab. Under the desired domain, click the Advanced DNS settings, then click edit. In the TXT section, click Add new record and enter what they provided.

Why would Google need to know that you own the domain name. Just think about it,
who does Google think they are. 60 minutes did a piece about Google and their domination of the internet. It starts with, refusing to list websites that are not mobile phone friendly, then every site has to carry a SSL Certificate to appear on Google Chrome as secure. And now Google needs proof that indeed you are the owner of your website.What next?

I sort of agree with you Les, but their position is to prove ownership before you are allowed to use their services. The reality is likely more for data mining, but most people need Google, which is why we do as they require.
