Switching from http to https. Is it possible to enable https for my site, can I give a certificate/key to the server on Homestead? Please advise?
OR is it possible to login to our hosting spot on the server over SSH to install the certificate manualy?

We also tried changing the primary and secondary dns nameservers to cloudflare https, but the homestead software didn't allow us to change the primary and secondary dns, we could add to the list tough. But this didn't help with the problem since it would use the homestead dns before ever reaching the added dns nameserver.

Please wait for an official reply from one of the Homestead tech guys who will be in here Monday morning USA time. But its my understanding that HTTPS websites are (were) usually for websites that took financial details on the webpage, such as credit cards etc. If you do not sell on your site then its not required. As such I do not think it can be added to a homestead website.  However, there has bee a previous discussion on this subject and it would appear that search engines are starting to rate HTTPS websites better in the rankings regardless if they sell via the website or not. I believe, the the powers that be at Homestead, are monitoring the attitude of search engines to this prefix and may incorporate this into all their websites...

Thank you for your answer Brian,

this is very important and the biggest update that google has done in years because it affects every single website evenly accross the board.

google has just drawn a very clear line in the sand!

HTTPS as a ranking signal

It's the browser warnings that google displays to people trying to visit your site that will kill your trafic first!

HTTPS protect your information against steeling passwords,messages, credit cards and more.

I hope that homestead will be great again!

===============================

I'm customers at Homestead since 2002

It is not the first time I'm begging homestead to give us the possibility to acquire an SSL code / HTTPS

Best regards,

Jan

I agree wholeheartedly Jan.. and I am certain the the Homestead guys understand. No point offering a programme that builds websites that will be downgraded.. We shall have to wait and see. If Duda can do it so can Homestead. Beautiful websites Jan, sadly I was trying NOT to let the wife see...like all women. the lady love diamonds.. not sure if to say thank you or not... :)

There is not a way to add SSL to Homestead websites. There is a growing concern about Google penalizing sites without the https but I can assure you that development is aware of this. As of currently, the penalties will affect websites that attempt to gather financial or personal information without the SSL. Homestead ensures that the pages used to collect financial information for their stores are in fact SSL'd.
