We frequently get questions with regard to troubleshooting HTML, CSS code etc. Our SiteBuilder software does provide the ability for users to import their own code but there are some limits to what we are able to troubleshoot. If you need help troubleshooting your own HTML, (or 3rd party code), you are welcome to post here and solicit the help from other community members. We will assist if your issue is specifically SiteBuilder related, but have to limit our involvement in other cases.

Is there a reason why the placement of where Im placing my HTML box shows up differently on different browsers? Im working on http://shwingsonmannheim.homestead.com/ and the slider is properly centered on firefox and my phone. Yet when I use interenet explorer, its way off. Is there a way to make sure its always the same?

HAHAHA. Welcome to Internet Explorer (every webmasters headache). IE is consistently, for years now, the main browser that displays things unlike the rest of them. Im sure an advanced coder has little problem but us "at home" guys need to just keep tweeking until it works for all. Good luck.

Yes...IE is seems to be falling out of favor in comparison to Chrome and Firefox. Another thing you can check for is to see if you have more than one custom html boxes on the page. I've seen cases where other html can interfere. If you have multiple html boxes try removed one at a time to see if you can find the culprit. Also, try to eliminate as much overlap in your other elements too. Sometimes that can keep things from shifting.

Looking for help with a simple html banner code from the community.

Here is my new homepage. http://www.allmoviesandtvfree.com/

the banner is towards the bottom, you can see the frame. The link works and everything, but the banner image won't import.

Its still under construction so I published it just so the community can see it.

Here is the banner image URL http://www.latestdigitalmedia.com/~lo...

its also published so you can see it.

Can anyone tell me why this isn't working?

I've given up.

Hi Mike,

If you toss my question in with this general topic, will it still get some attention?

It is rather a specific question so I thought someone else who has had this issue might be able to send me a quick solution, but if it's not very visible , perhaps no one will see it.

Thanks again.

Navigation bar floating underneath other elements..

Hi, I've recently changed the layout of our site and I'm running into a bit of a problem, I have the navigation set in the master page (not sure what it's called). I've right-clicked the element and sent it to the front, but I'm guessing it doesn't apply to the whole page.

----My navigation is stuck behind all of the content when you scroll down.----

Is there any way for me to manually change the z-index? Could someone tell me how to do this? I really... really don't want to have to apply the bar to each page if I don't have to... lol.

The website is http://www.duzcho.com/.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Charlie,

If your menu with the drop downs is 3rd party code, Homestead won't help you. and I get why that is.

Check here...http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10...

also if you hit the yellow button at the top of Site Builder it'll make the change on every page.

Good luck.

This is ridiculous... Why has this been merged to this topic? The question I have asked is site builder related.

HOW, in SITEBUILDER, do I change the z-index of an html element manually! That is all I need to know!

If you are looking for the head section to add css code, you'll find it under the Page Settings button, but we are not allowed to teach, troubleshoot, or edit 3rd party code.

Charlie, I dont think its fair to say that. Homestead is very helpful with a lot of problems when it comes to Sitebuilder. The problem isn't Sitebuilder, it has to be a problem with your CSS. Most users here do not work with CSS on the level of z-index. You should just submit your code to a site like http://stackoverflow.com/questions/91.... If they can't help you I don't know who would. Your site looks nice and I understand the frustration, trust me but your request is more suited a place like stackoverflow than here on Homestead community. Just trying to help. Just show them your code and ask them, I dont think you even have to sign up.

I thought I would post how this issue was resolved after working on it for days. After chatting with one Homestead thec, he advise me to simply right click on the element (the html dropdown menu) in sitebuilder, and select "bring to front". Didn't even know I could have right click on sitebuilder elements but that did it and now my slider and dropdown menu works the way it should without even changing the z-index number. Don't know why all the other Homestead techs didn't advise me of the simple fix after several chats, could have saved me hours and days but happy I finally got it to work.

That is the easiest fix, but it doesn't always work. It depends on your template and weather or not it has Master Templates, and if you placed the code on Master, or just the actual page. In either case. I'm glad you have it working. Thanks for sharing with the others!

It took me a long time to figure this out, and it may not be perfect, but it worked for me so I thought I'd share. If anyone is looking to make fixed header/footers that take up the entire screen, here is what I did

I attached an image since the code kept disappearing. Place the code in the image in the head tag of your advanced settings.

Then Open up notepad on your computer and copy paste this file and save it as footer.css (or whatever you would like. if you alter it, you have to alter it in the above box as well.)

html,
body {
margin:0;
padding:0;
height:100%;
}
#container {
min-height:1180px;
position:relative;
}
#header {
background: url(image.jpg) repeat-x;
padding:115px;
}
#body {
padding:10px;
padding-bottom:180px; /* Height of the footer */
}
#footer {
position:absolute;
bottom:0;
width:100%;
height:180px; /* Height of the footer */
background: url(image.jpg) repeat-x;
}

Then all you have to do is upload this .css file to file manager, publish the file, and you should be all set. The things you want to change would be the name of the image.jpg to whatever image you want to use. This is set as repeat so it takes up the full width so You only want to upload a small segment of what you want your header to look like. If you just want a solid color for the header, after background: just put the color #. So it would look like background:#6cf; instead. The min-height would be where you want the footer to go on your page. You will have to determine where exactly you want that. My page ended at 1180px so that's why I used that. Depending on how big your footer is, you will also want to change the height of the footer just like you would with any element size. Again, I am a beginner at this, but I wanted to at least share my findings since it took me a long time to get it to work properly.

Can I embed fonts using @font-face?.

I know how to use the html function to specify a custom font and I know that if the font is not installed on the users computer then they will not see it. Font-face is supposed to be a way to get around that so that the font is actually loaded onto the server so even if you don't have the font on your computer you can still see the correct font that was specified. It seems that to be able to use font-face I need to edit the fonts stylesheet in homestead...is there a way to do this in homestead? Knowing homestead there probably isn't a way to do this, but is there even a way to override the default settings in the fonts stylesheet?

Error 404 loading media files in html embedded video player.

I'm using the add html element to include the video.js player. The same lines of code work fine on my computer, but when I try to implement them into the homestead site, there is an error loading the media files. I have added all three file types to the file manager, so the src attribute should be pointing to the correct files, but it still isn't working. Any thoughts on the issue are helpful. The site is elizabethhornedesign.com, and the code is on the HomeAlt page, which is not currently published.

The Inspect Element Console shows:
HTTP load failed with status 404. Load of media resource http://www.elizabethhornedesign.com/~... failed. HomeAlt.html

Make sure that any files you imported into the file manager are published. They won't automatically publish when you publish the page you are editing. You'll have to manually publish them from the File Manager page.
Photo of ELIZABETH4676

ELIZABETH4676

  • 102 Points 100 badge 2x thumb
Yes, they are published in the file manager. One other site suggested the path to the files is incorrect, but the src attribute is set the same as for any other file in the same folder in the file manager. If you try to click on the links in the HTTP load failed section above, you get the 404 error. Does that mean that when the page is processed, the links generated are incorrect? If I wanted to write the full path, rather than just assuming the file name is enough, what would it look like? I don't know how to determine the location of the files aside from being able to see them in the file manager.

As a work around, I found that if I preview the file, and then copy that url into the src attribute, it works. I'm not sure why I can't just point to the file by name. I would still like to know the direct address for the file in the file manager if possible. Thanks.

If you want to manually write/type out the url it is simply the following format.

www.yourdomianname.com/filename.html or if it's an image you are linking to www.yourdomainname.com/imagename.jpg (just edit the extension for the file type)

or if you have the page or image file in a folder, then:

font-size: 32px;

Website Flipbook Integration.

I have recently purchased Flipb (Flipbook), a flash based program that converts PDF's into an easy to use life-like interactive catalog. The version I purchased only has it where I can host it online and cannot save it to my computer as a file. I am trying to figure out how to integrate it into my website so that you can click on a link to it and it will take you to where the program is hosted. Right now when I publish it, it creates a folder that has tons of different file types inside it, and unfortunately I cannot simply click the "insert" button and add the file as a whole. It essentially publishes it as html, but there isn't code anywhere I can find that I can copy and paste it into the advanced feature of sitebuilder.

Does anyone have experience with this program and have instructions on how they integrated it into their website?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You will probably have to manage this through the file manager screen in Sitebuilder. You will likely have to manually create folder names in the same exact spelling/format as what is on your computer, then copy the contents into the related folder through the file manager screen You won't need to use the regular sitebuilder editing screens.

The url's you posted don't work, but, based on your description, there are two ways to fix this. If the slideshow worked before you moved the images into other folders, then you can either move the images back to their original location, or, you'll have to edit the code/path to reflect the new folder locations in the file manager.

The first thing to check is the files that you imported into the file manager. When you open the file manager and if you scroll your screen to the far right, the last column will show you the status of all the files and if they are published, or unpublished. Just make sure all the pages and supporting files are published.

The path to your images should be http://kittychanplays.homestead.com/imagename, not https://sitebuilder.homestead.com/~site/builder/filePreview/050314clg_delta-islands.jpg  The path you entered can work, but only because you are logged into the account.

Also, there is another subfolder that reference to 2 javascripts in the engine1 folder.  You need to upload those files into your site and then update the file path for that as well.
