Oh it is doing it again. I just read then deleted an email from my nonproft board of directors, subject mineral rights. I opened the next email which was a notice from Facebok that somebody had commented on one of my posts. Tthe header pops up being from the last email and the subject is from Facebook with a missing image icon showing that the Facebook message was supposed to be there. This lends a whole new meaning to the term Open-XChange!

Now I've gone to the next email from a colleague and the header from the facebook email pops up with a bunch of this in the message:

I closed the colleague's email to try to reboot it, and now it is gone. Not in the new folder, not in the trash, not in the deleted items. The new email counter still shows two new email I had not read yet. But they are not there either.

I have given up on this email provider. I have decided to start switching over to a different provider. I can not run a business like this. I knew clients were not receiving my emails - I just had no idea how many!!. There are so many problems - I don't even know where to begin. The final breaking point for me is the fact that I have to log back into my account every few minutes. Seems like there are other people have the same issue. I am happy to say that by using a different provider, a HUGE weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can get back to running my business effectively and efficiently. What is wrong with this company? There is no way things should take this long to 'fix'. I have been with them for a little over a year, and I think I had 2 good months. shame shame shame.

The fact that there is a topic called "How do I voice my complaint with regard to the email service?" is not a good sign. Wish I had seen this before I started with this company.

I have been with Homestead for years and this is so very sad for me to see. I also can't run a business this way, and have lost thousands of revenue which I can ill afford. Sad. The guys at the top of Endurance are so far removed from the real world at Homestead. They are taking over the website industry and Homestead, a great company for me for many, many years, is falling apart. Sad, sad, sad.

How are you checking the emails? Through the website, Outlook, or other program, cell phone etc? Or a combination?

Another day in email hell. It worked fine for about an hour, now red-bordered, black error message after error message piling up on top of each other in the upper right corner of the window. Cannot save, send, delete. Nothing shows in the left pane, no email folders, no nothing. Messages I sent two days ago are just now being delivered. A list admin contacted me to ask why I was posting a personal email about my family tree on the list serve for probate attorneys. I DID NOT. The only thing I can think of is that I opened their group message, deleted. Then opened the next message from a genealogy buddy and the system somehow merged the two email again so that it sent the reply to the wrong person. Since I am allowed to observe on the probate list but not participate, this almost got me kicked off one of the most valuable business lists I have.

NO offense to anyone, but Mike, every time someone starts a new comment I am getting all these disturbing emails and I have other things to do then read all these complaints. You have in the past asked that i not start a new comment and to continue in the same one in order to stop any confusion. I am asking that you also apply this rule to ALL those that are in this chat.
Sorry but again, no offense to anyone in here, but I do not need the too many new complaints sent to me via email. I am sorry but I care about MY situation and no one else's..... I am STILL waiting to be contacted and helped, I have been waiting for over 8 months now....I have been with you guys for over 15 years.....I think SOMETHING needs to be done in order to help EVERYONE.....maybe start with those that have been with you the longest, as we are either stupid or loyal. Also, FYI it helps when you address each of us in the replies and helps to save time when we have to open each email and then open and view the reply to only find out it is not for you but for someone else....FRUSTRATING, yet again!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Our email admins are still working on the account, and I thought they would have a resolution by now. As far as the spam goes, you'll notice a drastic improvement, after the account is converted to the new system. I am following up again right now.

As far as getting auto replies from this thread. there is no way to separate the responses by user. If you are subscribed to the thread, you'll get all responses from all posters. If you want to stop receiving them, just click the unsubscribe link on the emails.

MIKE: yes there is a very SIMPLE way to stop the wasted time clicking on the bottom of the emails to see if it is regarding your issues and that is wasted resources. In an effort to make it better, just ADDRESS the person at the beginning of the reply....like i have done! EASY

I am also having very serious problems with my email service. How can one run a business like this? In addition to some of the complaints listed above, I have had a number of complaints that emails sent to me have been returned to the sender stating that they are undeliverable (although I did receive some of them). Worse than that, my private forwarding address is made visible in those bounced emails!! This raises multiple trust issues.......

To diagnose why the message is bouncing we would need a copy of the bounce message. Is it possible for you to get one? Unfortunately if your forwarded address is part of the reason for the bounce then it will show in the return message. Those headers try to give admins all the information of the path of the email.

While I understand forwarding is simple and useful, it is not something that mail admins and newer spam filter are fond of. It does increase the chance that your message will be marked as spam as well. Most domains now include an SPF record. This record is added by your host to help prevent spammers from spoofing your account and reeking havoc on your domain's reputation. It defines the servers that are allowed to send on behalf of your domain. Sometimes forwarding will be blocked as a result.

If you have multiple email addresses, most email clients can now be configured to directly check multiple email boxes, thus avoiding that part of it.

Thank you for your reply, Drew. However, my automatic forwarding address should always be private! Homestead has limitations on email storage and this requires some kind of back up from another service. This is a serious problem in an electronic age where much business is done by email and records must be kept. I will ask one of my bounced communicators to send me one of the bounces so that I can forward it to you. How should I get it to you?

I will send you an email to reply to with the bounce. I understand what you mean about privacy, but those headers will track all relevant information. There is no way to stop that. The new email boxes now have 500MB. You can also use a client program like Outlook and archive to a local computer. If forwarding and privacy are that important, then I would suggest setting up an email specific to being a storage location and not use it for anything else.

Mike and Drew, everything worked pretty well yesterday, but error messages are cropping up today. Both my genealogyfinder and forensicgenealogyservices email are timing out again. The black/red error message disappears when I ty to open to get the message. An email was read and sent to trash. Went on to next email, clicked a link within, came back to that message, and the system had mixed two separate email again. The deleted email is showing in the to/from/subject header of the current email and the body of the second message is still on the screen. I save a screen shot to email to you. However, I could not log in to genealogyfinder email, and when it finally logged in, the whole thing is blank. No email, no folders, nada.

For the most part, spam is when someone sends an unwanted email/solicitation to another party. This site does a good job explaining. http://www.business.ftc.gov/documents...

If you read the content on the page above, it's pretty easy to see how someone using the email list/form tool on the Homestead site could get themselves into trouble. This has become a serious problem in recent years and fines and penalties can be devastating for small businesses.

Mike, just as an FYI, I use to work at Symantec for 7 years, I am fully aware of what SPAM is.....your filter is garbage! even through I pressed junk mail and to block the sender, they are still getting through and it is the same tag on the emails so they have not changed the domain on them.
And yes Canada now has CASL and is very punishable by law here...problem is that people are not educated in this and are not aware that even if you meet someone at a networking event does not give you permission to place them on your email listing. You MUST ASK for their permission. Trust me I am very well educated in both...
a few of the features that I can not seem to find in your wonderful new Xchange Server. Things like signatures to set up, mine is gone, junk mail folder and SPAM reporting button. Also the set up is horrible, Every time I log in I have to save the view that I want to view my emails in....I hate that there is very little viewing area for the actual email. and that the tools are not going across but rather gathering on 3 lines on the left hand side. I have to remove this every time I log in as well...what is the point of removing this if it is not going to save your settings?
Once of my employees now has NO CONTACTS....this is not good Mike...this needs to be fixed ASAP....like as in TODAY!

Sorry but I don't have any way of changing the design/layout/functionality of the web interface, but if you have an email account that is missing contacts, the only thing I can do today, would be to unlock the old email account so that you can log into it and get whatever information you need. If you can tell me what address it's for, I'll have it unlocked.

it is missing EVERYTHING for ALL email addresses! my employees have NO contacts in their new email Xchange! What do I need the address for.....really what do you care and why do you need to know that info...sorry that is no-one's business to be honest. we need ALL contact info that we had on the other system!! I can not import from Xchange to 2010 outlook! it says data will be lost...we have tried this 5 times now!! I have some contacts and NO email addresses! and if you think I will be going through all 1,000 + contacts to figure out which ones are not there you are insane. You guys have consumed 90% of my daily time....I am going to start billing you since your taking me away for what I do for a living....I bill at $150 an hour US funds...and some services are $375 per hour US funds! Please just get me ALL our contacts with ALL their info...there are about 20 emails to get these from. do you need the list of them? its for The-staffroom.com and tsrcanada.com thank you

I just got the new email thing this morning. Have now been working on getting things going for 7 hours. Hours with chat- 2nd tier, no help but they will see if anyone else has this problem, over to the Apple guys (prob is the interface between open x server and ipad). They got me circumvented around this new system(a 5 min call) so that I can now read a long email. I have a gmail account as well, it does not have this problem. All the new bells and whistles amount to nothing if things won't work. Good thing it was on an off day for me. Everything worked fine in Zimbra. It is not the ipad, it is the ability to interface. Same problem on Safari or Chrome.
Homestead, you said you were excited and thought I'd really like it..... i don't.

I am having multiple problems with my new email system.
1. Physical mailing addresses and other info are missing from some of my contacts - very serious! Please research and restore!
2. I have to look up each email address in order to send an email, there is no auto- complete and no access to contacts with the newly written email open.
3. The pale blue type is too light to read easily and I have not found any way to set preferences
4. Everything is taking a long time to load (I am using Firefox, per your instructions)
5. The MOVE link only gives me options like contacts, calendar, trash, etc. -- no options to move the message to a personal folder ?? And, why would I move a message to contacts or calendar??
So far I am very disappointed. I understand that new systems frequently have some bugs, but this is looking way out of the ordinary.....

Hello Jane9132, Sorry for the issues regarding the email. First, in order for us to help you and the others more efficiently, please refrain from creating duplicate/similar posts.

1. How many are affected? a restore has implications and may not be the best resolution.

2. This page explains the auto-fill issue: https://community.homestead.com/homes... Unfortunately a remigration can not fix this.

3. We can suggest these types of cosmetic changes but there is no guarantee that they will make any changes.

4. The length of time can depend on how many emails are in the system. Can you tell us the actual time that it usually takes so we can see if it's something out of the ordinary?

5. It sounds like you are using the wrong option. Just click, drag, and drop the email to the desired folder.

I don't know what the deal is with this service, but the email doesn't work on Outlook either. I'm having to remove the email capabilities from my website so I don't lose customers that are trying to email me. As I'm not a website designer, hence using this site in the first place, it is very difficult for me to move / re-do my site. I'll never recommend intuits service to anybody ever. Zero customer service and from what I can see it's just "y'all figure it out and help each other because we don't have a clue how to fix it". AND THEN, if you have to go to another service, that's fine too.

I'm going to file a complaint with the better business bureau regarding these people as soon as I'm finished with this thread.

Constant error messages and timing out for 3 days. Garbled messages when opened or after hitting reply; two messages combining when I click an action; undelivered outgoing email; outgoing email delivered days after being sent; new mail icon showing numbers of new email but no new email in the actual list of all email; moving read email into trash and getting indications I have new email or the read/moved email showing up in the trash as new/unread; opening new email or trash folder and finding them completely blank; message saying the server is not available now so I can't delete or move an email, or send an email or forward or reply to an email. I have primarly been working in my forensicgenealogyservices.com email account for all the above problems. I'm hardly doing anything in the other email accounts as I can't handle all these disasters spread over multiple accounts.

Dee Dee, I am having many of the same problems. In fact, while I was considering commenting on your complaint I received an error message, server stopped, and I had to sign in again. In addition to the complaints you list, I am also unhappy that emails change to "read" status if the email above them is been deleted. I checked my setting and the setting is set to "long" - although I can't tell for sure if those settings even apply to the situation as descriptions are often vague. Are you also having problems with slow page loading? When I sign in it takes from 30 seconds to a minute for my start page to load. Jane

Hi Jane9132, I've tested the system and the flags seem to be working fine. I'm wondering if this is isolated to a specific browser. Can you tell us what browser and version you are using? If you try it on Firefox, Chrome, or another browser does it work?

Thank you Mike. I am using Firefox. I just tried the flags again and they are working now. However, the flags appear on the far right of the email where they are not very obvious. It would be much more helpful if they were on the left where they were on the old system. Thanks for your help. Jane

404 message, not found?!?

Why am I being charged for no service.

When will this be fixed?

Many of the above complaints are still valid. I open the account and within minutes have been booted off the service, have to relog in. This is not conducive to running a business.

A "404 not found" message generally refers to a website page that is no longer available, or has a broken hyperlink. Is this question pertaining to email, or your website? What exactly are you doing when you get this error message?

Mike and Drew, I AM FURIOUS! I just received an email from one of my professional list serves. I read, then deleted. It moved to trash. I opened the next message from an attorney representing an important client. I responded WITHIN THAT EMAIL and hit send. YOUR SYSTEM sent the PRIVATE EMAIL WITH SENSTITIVE INFORMATION TO THE ENTIRE LIST SERVE instead of to the attorney!!!!!!! This has put me in a position where ethics charges could be brought against me for this information reaching the wrong parties!

I have looked through many posts and I apologize if I missed it but I don't see a description of what this List Serve is??? If this is a 3rd party email application we can't really troubleshoot it.

Mike, I get email from a list serve for a group I belong to. I am not asking you to troubleshoot the list serve's problem. The list serve does not have any problems, their email works flawlessly. The problem is HOMESTEAD.

I read an email and clicked delete when done. Go to the second email, within the second email I click reply. I type the reply within the second email. I click send. HOMESTEAD sends the message to the recipient listed in the PREVIOUS EMAIL THAT WAS DELETED, NOT THE RECIPIENT IN SECOND EMAIL I WAS READING AND REPLYING TO.

This is NOT the first time I have reported this. It is reported multiple times above and in the private emails to you and Drew. It does not happen all the time. The problems seem to rest for awhile and then the whole system goes berserk and nothing works. I've talked to two computer people about this and they both said it sounds like a memory issue on your servers when your servers combine two emails.

I have other examples above and in private emails to you and Drew. Sometimes when I click reply, the original message shown below the response area is all garbled. Twice I have opened new messages and they were garbled. Had to close, sign in again and then open them. Once yesterday and once already this morning, I clicked the new folder and new email titles showed up in the list view, then one would just disappear. These are NOT messages I looked at first on other devices, these were new messages that were just listed one second and then gone.

Here is an example of the disappearing email. I checked email yesterday afternoon. All the new email showed up in bold. There was a Your Website Received a Form Submission email among the bold list. Then it just disappeared from the list before I could open any email. This morning there is the same message within the right order in the list, that when opened shows it arrived yesterday and 2:41 pm. But it did not show up again in my inbox all of yesterday, just this morning. There is another email that disappeared from another account in exactly the same manner. It has not shown up yet.

Not happy with this new email system at all, and now considering moving to somwhere else. It's complicated everything from flags to search, and not only that I am constantly getting error messages and kicked out of my email only for it to hang up for a while and not let me back in. Seems pretty consistant that around 11am GMT it doesn't work.

Sorry about the issues you are describing. I know it can be frustrating getting used to a new/different system. As far as the error messages go, those are being worked on. Most customers have seen a drastic reduction in those already but we are still doing some more work.

This is is a sad day i have been with hs from the start freebee days
The one constant is change however this one is a deal breaker.
You have to have an email client that works.
Open Xchange Does Not.

Randy, I imagine we may get trampled in the exit stampede. I have been with HS for almost 12 years. These last few months were by far the worse and longest horrendous experience I've ever had with a business. I was going to wait until some major projects were done the end of March to move, but I can't complete the projects because the Homestead email does not work and is causing me many probems. Please let us know where you decide to go so we can look at it among the options.

It is not just one thing. If you use it you know.Tech must be all but impossible As complicated and outdated e-mail is. intuits choice of the bottom tier client adds to the current trend downward .CHEAP that usually means it is over. Intuit jammed up a lot of small mom and pop biz people.Well it is about the Benjamins right?sorry. Pivot is a great tool in sports. Not so much in biz.

Another example of disappearing email. I opened one of the group list messages, read it, responded, closed - which took me back to the list of new/old email. There was my reply already showing up in the mail box. Opened another email. Deleted it. Clicked on my reply to the list to make Homestead hadn't sent it some place else. The little timer went round and round, then the screen went back to the list and that eail was gone. Not in the trash, not in deleted, not in the email list, just gone. That happened once before this week.

Just happened twice more. I cannot open email. The timer spins, it goes back to the list, the email are no longer in the list, but the email icon counter still shows 2 new unread email. This is the forensicgenealgyservices.com account

Logged out, logged back in. The two new email are in the list again. Click to open, timer goes around, back to list and no email. Opened the other one, read it clicked, reply, got an error message, "An error occurred. (MSG-0032, -1758992260-1167364)." Closed the email and it disappeared from the list again.

Mike and Drew - I bought a new computer with WIN7 Pro and downloaded latest Foxfire. That did not fix the problems with Homestead email. My forensicgenealogyservices email inbox shows 2 new email in the inbox icon, the counter at the top of the list page shows some 2K email, and the "list view" doesn't have anything in it except a message that my folder is empty - no email. I still have error messages all morning, timing out, latest error message:

YES Mike, all contacts are GONE for some employees....I will ask them Monday morning to double check but I doubt it....one is pretty savvy on computers.

ok....I was just in Ashley's account and ALL her contacts are GONE...including ones that she sent emails too....JUST FRIGGIN PERFECT!!!! I do not have the time for all this CRAP! I am so furious!!! I am out of the office for the next 3 days!!! tell you what...I will be in the car driving at 4pm EST tomorrow Thursday Feb 27 I will make sure that I have my cell phone on me....OR have someone call me in the office at 1pm EST FRIDAY FEB 28....these are very limited windows of time to chat....or have someone above you email me direct!!! I am wondering what will be offered to over come this HUGE EXPENSE! I am that furious! YOU HAVE LOST POTENTIAL CLIENTS INFO!!!! That is 6 months of info....And to think I have been with you guys for over 10 years and since you have been bought out we have had nothing but issues after issues and they still have not learned from their mistakes!!! I hope that you escalate this to your Sr. Director's office. This is far too much money that I have lost and I wonder if your new owners would like this done to them.....

Twiggy, I'm sorry but if there are no contacts in the Zimbra system, then there is nothing for us to transfer over. We would not have removed or deleted any contacts from the old system, nor does the migration process remove anything from the old accounts.
