How do I use ShipWorks with my Bigcommerce store?

Do you have a Bigcommerce store and need help managing your shipping?

We would like to recommend ShipWorks, one of the great partners in our App Store that provides time saving shipping solutions for Bigcommerce store owners. Here's a few things you can do with ShipWorks:

  • Manage all of your marketplaces in one place. Support for 40+ platforms including Bigcommerce, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Newegg, PayPal, Shopping (formerly, and Sears Marketplace.

  • Ship orders with DHL Global Mail, FedEx, FedEx Canada, i-parcel, OnTrac, UPS, and USPS (including Endicia, Express1, and

  • Batch print shipping labels, invoices and packing slips.

What We'll Cover

Setting up your account
1.) Visit ShipWorks the App Store and click I want this app.

2.) Once you have read through the sign up page, check the I understand and accept the terms of service box and click Continue.


3.) Enter your store name and contact information. If you choose, sign up for the ShipWorks consulting plan.


4.) Scroll to the bottom of the page and enter your credit card information. Click Submit.


That's it! You're ready to download your software and get started!

Installing the software
1.) Once you have created and paid for your ShipWorks software (or alternatively signed up for a Free Trial), download the provided installation software and run it. This process may take several minutes and you will be prompted to make some choices.

2.) Choose whether you want to setup a new database, connect to an existing database, or restore a backup. In most cases you will be setting up a new database.


3.) Setup Microsoft SQL Server 2008, or use an existing installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 where applicable.


4.) Create your server administrator password.


5.) Download Microsoft SQL Server 2008.


6.) Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008. This may take several minutes.


7.) Configure your firewall where applicable. If you are not running the ShipWorks software on multiple computers, you may skip this step.


8.) Name your ShipWorks database.


9.) Create your ShipWorks user account.


10.) Add your store to ShipWorks. If you have already purchased your Shipworks software, enter your license key.


11.) Enter your API credentials. If you already know them, you can skip to step 15. If you need to enable the API, proceed to the next step.


12.) Login to your Bigcommerce Control Panel and go to Users. Here, you may either create a user account or edit an existing user. In this example we will create a new username, shipworks.



13.) Scroll to the bottom of the user account and enable the API for that user (if not already enabled).


14.) Copy and paste your Bigcommerce username and API credentials into your ShipWorks Store Setup screen. Click Save in your Bigcommerce User account, and then click Next in your ShipWorks Store Setup.

15.) Set your store's weight settings, and how far back you would like ShipWorks to check for modified or skipped orders.


16.) Enter your store's contact information.


17.) Setup your initial download range.


18.) Configure your automatic update settings so your orders are set to the desired status in Bigcommerce.


19.) If desired, setup email account for automatic emails and configure automatic downloading of your orders.


That's it! Your store is setup inside of ShipWorks.

Sync your orders
Once you are setup, in addition to the option to have orders automatically synced, you can download orders upon request.

1.) Inside your ShipWorks account navigate to the Home tab and click Download.


2.) This process may take a few moments. In the end you will see your Orders pane populate with any orders not already download (where applicable).

3.) Once complete, you will be able to view additional order details, sort orders appropriately, and start creating shipments.


That's it! Your Orders can now be managed inside ShipWorks.

Shipping Providers
Once you have your orders synced you can start creating shipments. However, you can't do that until you setup your shipping providers.

1.) Navigate to the Manage tab and click Shipping Settings.


2.) In the General section choose your active providers and a default provider if you choose.


3.) On the left-hand side, navigate to any provider you wish to enable and click Setup.


4.) Fill out the setup-wizard information that follows, including your company information and provider-specific account information where appropriate. Repeat this process as necessary for as many shipping providers as you see fit.

That's it! You're ready to create shipments.
