Here are instructions to transfer your domain to another provider.

Note: ICANN regulations require domains to be with a provider for 60 days before they can be transferred to a new hosting company. Therefore, you can only transfer your domain name to another host if it's been with us for 60 days.

  1. Click Domains in the left navigation menu.

  2. Scroll down to your domain name. There are 4 things you need to do before you start the transfer.

  • Edit Contact Info -- Make sure your email address is listed as the administrative contact. The authorization code (sometimes referred to as an EPP code or Domain password) will be sent to that email.

**IMPORTANT- IF YOU CHANGE THE EMAIL ON FILE FOR YOUR DOMAIN**
Please follow the instructions in this article:
    https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/extremely_important_domain_information

  • Unlock Domain -- Click Edit Domain Locking link and make sure your domain is unlocked.

  • Disable Privacy -- Click Show Privacy Status and confirm it's disabled or off.

  • Send Authorization Code -- Click Email your authorization code link. The next page will confirm the email address it will be sent to. Click Send to confirm.

  • Once you've completed all 4 things, your domain is now ready to transfer out.

  • Contact the new provider start the transfer process with them.

Depending on the company, it could be as little as a few hours, but it's more normal for it to take about 3-5 days.

I have moved my domain name to another hosting company but when I type in my www.companyname.com it still shows up everything as if it is still set up with Intuit.  also how do I remove my credit card information.  I do not want anymore payment being charged to my credit card.

I have spoken to my credit card company.  This is serious and I would like someone to help me please and thank you so kindly in advance.

You can close your account to stop any billing.

Your domain is now with Godaddy.  Any changes in where it points must be done through them.

    Thanks

Did you enter the authorization code successfully?  If so, then the transfer should begin.  I have never heard of, or needed a transaction code in transferring a domain.

In the final step the godaddy transfer process takes you a page with two fields as follows.
    Add Transfer Codes
    * All fields required
Transaction ID: (godaddy say they send a transaction id to the homestead. that id is supposed to go here)

Security code: (i have this one already)

    • 262,826 Points 100k badge 2x thumb
Does it say required?  I have never heard of this before, nor have we have had to provide to domains being transferred to Godaddy.  Homestead really isn't involved in the transfer.  The order goes to Tucows which is the registrar used by Homestead.  The only number I see generated is a msg id for sending you the authorization code.  That number is
    msg_id=302573208
I would see if you can proceed with just the EPP number.  That is the only requirement for domain transfer.

    Thanks

    charles0130,

I found this on the Godaddy support site.  You get Transaction ID from Godaddy support.  You still need the authorization code we sent to you already.

In the Transaction ID and Security Code fields, enter the transfer IDs we sent to the administrative contact's (admin) email address, and then click Add. (If you have a .au domain name, we will send transfer IDs and a confirmation email to the registrant contact's email address as it displays in the Whois database.)
NOTE: If you did not receive transfer IDs, see How do I resend the transfer IDs to my updated admin email address?

    Hi Matthew7302,

The only code you'll need is the security code, often referred to as the authorization code or EPP code. I just emailed it to the email address which you have on record with us. You will need to provide it to GoDaddy, and it is usually done electronically through their website. or via an email exchange.

Bradely6008,  You are skipping some of the steps in #2 above. You can change the admin email address by clicking the "Edit contact info" link shown below.  Then, you'll also need to disable the privacy feature by clicking on the "Show privacy status" link. The "contact privacy" email address is there because you have not disabled the Privacy.

You'll need to contact Godaddy to get logged in to the domain hosting account. I would suggest that you have the designer provide you with pointing instructions. If you allow them to transfer the domain, you are essentially transferring ownership. If you ever part ways with the designer, you may have trouble recovering your domain.

Domain transfers are regulated by an organization called ICANN. The email that has the link is normally sent as soon as you enter the code. If you click on the link when you receive it, the transfer process is sped up. If you don't then it will transfer automatically when the time comes. That time frame is what I am confirming with the registrar.

In any case, since you clicked on the link the transfer should get done now. Keep in mind that once you receive confirmation of the transfer, there is still up to a 24 hour propagation time for it to announce to the Internet that it has moved.

    Thanks

Our registrar now shows this as a completed transfer. As I said it might take 24 hours for the rest of the world to know.

    Thanks for your patience.

I have the same issue. The transfer should have completed by now. I have sent emails to our support staff, which have not been answered. Please advise.

Awilda7674,  It is normal for a domain transfer to take up to 5 days.  It can vary depending on who the domain is transferring to though. In some cases you can expedite the transfer by responding to emails from the registrars.  Can you check your gmail and look for an email on the 24th?  Otherwise the transfer status looks fine and should complete on it's own.

Once you transfer the domain, you will need to cancel your account with us. You can do that yourself in your account, or contact support.

    Thanks

The "Domain Control" section of the Domains settings screen doesn't appear when I go to Domains. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I get it! My account pays on the 12th, so I'm not going to get a response or move my domain until after Homestead gets another month of billing from me!

godaddy are requesting a transaction ID which is supposed to come from the current domain registrar. Domain section doesn't seem to have the link to request the auth ID code I need. Help!

    Hi Nancy1115,

I don't know what the transaction ID is. The only thing required to transfer a domain is the authorization code. If Godaddy is asking for anything other than the authorization code(EPP code), then it must come from them.

    Thanks

I need to change the The WHOIS Administrative Contact which seems to be recorded incorrectly as...

    Domain Name  E-Mail Address
    LENNEHARDT.COM                            lennehardt.com@contactprivacy.com

Grateful if you could amend to "malcolm.mahs@gmail.com" or advise how I could do this.

    Regards.

Login to your Domains page, find the domain that is in question, then click Edit Contact Info. This is where you can edit the WHOIS information.

Thanks.  I recently moved one of my websites from Homestead to Network Solutions changing the DNS in the Homestead control panel to point to NS servers.  Unfortunately since then our mail has stopped.  So I initiated a transfer to move the domain (www.lennehardt.com) from Homestead to Newtwork Solutions.  I received an email from them requesting that I authorize the transfer via a link in an email sent to WHOIS Administrative Contact (listed below).  This is a very strange email address and one I do not have access to.  I tried to find this email address in Homestead but only see mine, malcolm.mahs@gmail.com, which is correct.  Very grateful if you would locate and change the WHOIS Administrative Contact and change from  lennehardt.com@contactprivacy.com -> malcolm.mahs@gmail.com.

    Best regards,
    Malcolm

The WHOIS Administrative Contact of record needs to authorize the transfer via a link in the email sent to them with the subject line, "Please Confirm Your Domain Name Transfer."

The privacy has been removed, and this should show the correct email address now.

Thanks, Todd.  I just checked and tried to get a transfer Authorization Code but got this message, "Could not retrieve email"...  can you help?  Or email me an Authorization Code?

Domain Manager > Your Authorization CodeYour Authorization Code

In order for you to transfer your domain name out of your website account, you will need an authorization code.

The authorization code is a 6 to 16 character code assigned to all domain names. This authorization is an extra security measure, ensuring that only the owner of a given domain can initiate a transfer.

We recommend printing this code for your records, as you will need it if you decide to transfer.
