If you aren't sure of the difference between POP and IMAP and why you would use one or the other, please click here.

1) Enter your email address and email password and click manual setup.

2) Click on IMAP

3) Make sure these settings match, except to enter your email address. Click next.

4) Again, match these settings and click Next.

5) Optional settings: While "push" will get your mail faster, it also will drain your battery more quickly. Some people also think immediate delivery is a distraction and interupts work flow, so carefully weigh your options and consequences. Once set, click Next.

6) Name your account if desired. If you have multiple accounts it might be easier ro identify in your account list. Click on Done

By default k-9 will store you sent and trash folders on the phone, not the server. If you would like to sync these folders to the server then continue to follow these instructions.

7) From the inbox, press your menu button. Mine is not on the screen, so it isn't pictured here. Click Settings, then Account Settings.

8) Now click on Folders.

9) You can re-map the indicated folder by clicking on it. You will receive a list of the folders available. This is a little tricky because it doesn't indicate server vs local. In our case, Sent items is the server folder, as is trash.

10) Select the appropriate folder.

E-mail Support on Wireless devices..

I have a Samsung S5 wireless device and a couple of other devices. Why are my e-mails on my Homestead main account and other devices duplicating themselves? The e-mails also reappear after I have deleted them.  Why does this happen?

Good morning Robert S.3530,

The stock Android client doesn't allow you to map the folders properly.  We highly recommend that you download the k-9 mail client from the Play store.  It is free and here are the instructions for setting up the account.

Thanks

Drew

Patricia1837,

This is my recommendation for you. k-9 is a much better program than the stock Android client.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled I can't get email on my Galaxy 4s.

I've tried everything that is listed on the community search.
Trying to set it up as an imap. For my phone I have to change the imap server to imap.homestead.com
no security type, port 143
It doesn't give me an option for an outgoing server.
I click next and it says its checking incoming server settings and then "authentication failed"
There aren't any other setting for me to change except for Imap path prefix:
I've tried the pop setting...no to that too.
Need help!

First confirm that you are able to log in to the webmail program on a computer, then follow these instructions. We highly advise you use the k-9 program.

I've tried every manual setup imaginable listed here.  Stock, K-9 it doesnt matter.  Cant get past POP or IMAP setup.  Says authentication failed or username/password incorrect.  They are correct

jimmyj715023, This is the best setup in my opinion. In step one, make sure you use manual setup. The auto configure will not work.

I am trying to set up my email on my android phone & the it keeps stating that Authentication failed. Please help so that I can get this set up on my phone.
I was using Outlook until yesterday and now I can no longer get my business email!  So I have been reading and downloaded this K-9 App (thank you - another email app---- this is getting out of hand).  Well I have followed the above instructions and it still does not work.
Under Security there is no option of NONE - what now?
So I use what the default is and I Set up can not finish - Authentication Failed
We have android Samsung Note 5 phones

It isn't the default setting, but you should be able to drop the security menu and select None. I just deleted and set mine up on a Galaxy S7 Edge.
