If you track inventory in your store, you will probably want to display a message on your products that lets your customers know when a product of your has no stock left. The way to do this in BigCommerce is to display your current inventory of your products on the product page.

1.) To display these, click on Settings and then Store Settings in your store's control panel.

2.) Then, click on the Display tab.

3.) Scroll down to just before the second area, and check the box next to Yes, show inventory levels in my store.

4.) Click Save.

When a product's current stock level reaches zero, a sold out message will be shown.

Inventory Settings in BigCommerce.

Issue and Question with Inventory Controls.

Issue:
I have set the Store to 'Show Stock Levels' several times and it keeps reverting to 'Don't Show Stock Levels'.

Question:
Regarding the Settings for 'When a Product is Out of Stock' - I don't understand two of the Options:

(1) Hide product, but leave Page accessible
(2) Redirect to Category Page

If possible, can you expand on these two options?

Thank you!

I see, yes. Ok, fix it now. I am working with Bigcommerce.

Thanks

Hey Drew -

Haven't really been paying attention to the 'stock level' issue - but did notice today it has reverted back to NOT showing on the product detail page. Will not reset till I hear back from you! (Not certain if there is any relevance, but there was an upgrade done on 10/23)

Thanks,

Ok. Leave it alone for right now. I have submitted it again.

LOL...Thank you for migrating my question here.

Funny you should mention the 'save' button - that did indeed happen to me on occasion this past weekend (in other areas) and certainly thought it could have been the problem. Rest assured after it happened the 1st time, I definitely did hit 'Save'. So I reset it this morning (and although other things have changed), so far so good (I'll keep an eye on that).

FYI - Our Dashboard/Control Panel is a little different format than in these displays. Looks like 'Inventory' has been moved as such: 'Setup & Tools', Inventory Settings are in the center column.

If you can expand/further explain the options for 'When a Product is Out of Stock' - I don't understand two of the Options:

(1) Hide product, but leave Page accessible
(2) Redirect to Category Page

Thanks so much!

Just wanted to let you know I'm waiting for clarification, and if the screenshots above are not correct. I will fix those. Thanks for letting us know.

Hi Sally, here is some clarification on those two questions.

1. If somebody went directly to the link, they would find the product, but be unable to purchase it. However, on the category page, the product would be unavailable.

2. This basically creates a 301 redirect on the page and sends the user seamlessly back to the category.

Thanks so much for investigating that for me, Mike. I appreciate it!
