So you’re ready to have your domain bring up your new Storefront powered by Bigcommerce! Great! You just need to complete the three tasks below:

  1. Log into your Bigcommerce account and obtain your domains Cname record

  2. Log into your Homestead account and enter the new Cname record

TASK 1

1. Log into your store account at Bigcommerce.com. (If you forgot your password click here to reset your password, then return to this page.)

2. Click on “Setup & Tools” in the right hand corner and then choose “Domain Name” under the “Set up your store” column.

3. Type in your domain as stores.yourdomain.com (i.e. if your domain name you use on your Storefront is coloradopuppy.com you would enter stores.coloradopuppy.com).

4. Click the “Use Domain” button.

5. The next screen will instruct you to create a CNAME with your registrar. Take note of your store's canonical name, you'll need this in a minute.

That’s it! Now you need to make the changes on the Homestead side:

TASK 2

1. Log into your homestead.com account

2. Click on “Domains” on the left.

3. Scroll down to your domain and click on “Advanced DNS Editing” under your domain.

4. Click the “Edit button to the left”.

5. Scroll down to the “Stores” CNAME and delete the existing Cname record (It may look like "stores017.homestead.com" but could vary) and enter your Bigcommerce temporary URL that you got in step 5 at Bigcommerce.

Note: If you aren’t given this screen but instead receive a message “Sorry, you cannot edit your advanced DNS settings for this domain here because your domain is not using Homestead nameservers,” you will need to contact your domain provider and update your CNAME record there.

6. Click “Submit”.

7. You’ll be asked to confirm the changes. Hit “Submit” again.

8.  Locate the "www" subdomain and click Edit

9.  Choose Other URL and enter "stores.yourdomain.com"  and click Save.

Now the domain is pointed!

Congratulations! You have now fully launched your upgraded store!

Sorry for the confusion. Your DNS is still pointed at the Prostores store. That link will not work until you have the DNS switched. Until then use, http://store-txl2ij.mybigcommerce.com... to get to the Bigcommerce store admin.

Thanks

I have started the transitioning from Homestead/Pro Stores to Big Commerce BUT,
I cannot get to a point where I would point the former to BC??

I did begin to get my password reset, but there has been no email received to complete the process.

Also, once I can log in, I will need to point my former store to Big Commerce??

Hey guys,

It seems that you've helped a few other people who have had the same problem as me, so I'm confident we can work through this! My 'stores.' is taking me to our new big commerce site, however 'www.' is not. We're simply receiving the Store Unavailable error message.

Thank you for the help!

I only use my domain for my store front. That being said, why is it that I have to use the stores.mydomain.com for all of my traffic? This makes SEO a pain, because i want my users to see www.mydomain.com in the search results.

When you visit:
http://mydomain.com/
http://www.mydomain.com/
or
http://stores.mydomain.com/

All three domains bring up my storefront, which is great.

But if you visit:
http://www.mydomain.com/giftcertifica...
http://www.mydomain.com/cart.php
http://www.mydomain.com/search.php
http://www.mydomain.com/xmlsitemap.php

It brings up the homestead 404 page.

This also causes issues when trying to submit a sitemap to google or bing.

Is it possible for the www.domain to mirror the stores.domain? I

This issue is not resolved.

Do not work, but:

http://stores.lonestarpublicsafety.co...

Does work.

Hi Nic9866, After looking into this deeper, the system just won't work the way you are intending. The WWW will only redirect using the root (index home page), but not other pages. If you are wanting to set links, or provide links to users, you'll have to use the url containing the "stores" subdomain.

Hello Nic9866, I have double checked this with our advanced tech support team and unfortunately, this isn't possible. I has to do with the way the Cname record points in our system. The only way to link to those php pages would be to use the "stores" subdomain.

I've just completed this task and I'm getting an "unexpected server error" message. Does this mean there's a problem with what I've done, or is there a server wide problem?

How will I know if I've messed something up? How will I know if I need to come back and go through these steps again.

Thanks.

Notice there are three separate tasks above. I can't log into the Bigcommerce site to verify Task 1, but, I can see that Task #2 on the Homestead site has not been done. Once you make these changes, it can take several hours (usually not more than 48 hrs) for the DNS information to process before it starts working.

I have updated the CNAME record for stores.mydomainnames.com at my hosting site (yahoo.com) and I have closed my homestead store. But when I type in my url , it says my store is currently closed and still looks like my homestead site, but on bigcommerce, it says its up and running. what gives?

Eric9297, Since your domain is not hosted with us, and the nameservers appear to be pointed to Yahoo. We can not access your DNS records in order to see if you've completed all the steps. You will still have to complete the cname pointing process (except through Yahoo instead of Homestead), and you'll still need to complete the steps on the Bigcommerce site above.

If you go to my domain, willowgrilling.com, in Chrome it says Oops!Google Chrome can't find your site, In IE it says "the page can't be displayed". I've followed the directions and pointed the domain. It was working fine until 2/14. I called BigCommerce support who went through the settings with me. Their final conclusion was that the nameservers needed to be changed to ns1.bigcommerce.com. I made the change but after 24 hours it didn't work, so I called BigCommerce support again, they said don't change the nameservers, so I set them back to default. I'm not sure what to do to fix this.
Any help is greatly appreciated.Thanks!

The issue you are having is because the pointing process was not completed. If you take a look at Task 1, Step 3, you will most likely see that this step was either skipped or has the wrong information entered.

For some reason my topic was merged with another...but this does not help matters. What you fail to understand is that all the domain pointing and everything was completed on my store and it was working ...up and running fine... Now all of a sudden weeks later things have changed but I didn't go in and make changes to anything so it should have continued to work as it was previously.. Big Commerce Support specialist sounds like a title that indicates you all are supposed to actually offer support. But you are not doing that right now. Previously i was told that you cannot access the homestead control panel which turned out to be untrue because the last specialist actually went into the control panel and made changes which caused the store to work for at least 2 weeks...But now I cannot even get the main page to come up...I am having problems with my website. It has been 5 days and no one from big commerce is helping. So starting today I am going to post a comment regarding this on every Topic that comes through to my email until someone from big commerce responds. No one has responded in 5 days and my webpage is still not accessible by customers. When typing in the domain name www.lockscrunchy.com It still displays the gray box that says....Store Unavailable

This store is currently unavailable due to maintenance. It should be available again shortly.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

I just logged into the big commerce store and under the name servers section, my domain name has been spelled incorrectly by your staff several times. I have attempted to correct the incorrect spelling but it will not allow me to change many of them. It should read lockscrunchy.com but instead your staff has typed it as lockscrunchie.com with an ie on the end. Please see below:

To anyone at Homestead: The transition from Homestead has been an agony. I was truly without a working shopping cart for quite a time plus the options for my product weren't properly transferred - along with lots of other glitches. I wasn't able to edit my new website during the changeover or even after since things didn't transfer I guess. I am guessing there are hundreds of people with similar problems. I hired a website designer to help me thinking it was 'my issue', but they even had problems and I have ended up with a huge bill and things are still not totally resolved. Is there any help for us who were caught in this situation?
Is this a legal issue?

Heather0827 I feel your pain. I know what you are going through. There are currently a large number of store owners that are experiencing this. The migration was initiated but all along big commerce knew that they would not really help any of us at all. Basically homestead and the homestead staff along with big commerce has essentially left us out here to figure it out on our own. Yes it is a legal issue. They simply do not care. We ourselves can post concerns until we are blue in the face. None of them will lift a finger to fix any of our problems. They currently have my domain name pointing to 74.86.191.100 but when i type that in the address bar it will not bring up a working web page for my business. They are aware of this. They do not care. They decided they would treat us this way because we are small businesses and do not pay as much monthly as the other business that have kept big commerce operating all this time. So you ask, why bother even buying out homestead or merging with homestead if they are not going to actually help the businesses that are housed on homestead to actually have a smooth transition? Because neither homestead or big commerce is doing anything to help get our stores up and running so that we can continue making money... Oh but guess what ? They are still making money off of us, by continuing to charge us every month. My credit card is still being charged despite the fact that my website is not working, is literally not there to bring me any income..... but ahhh yes they still get paid. It's unbelievable.

Since there are so many complaints and so many problems that are not getting solved, and homestead isn't making any honest hands on effort to help any of us as store owners, nor is big commerce I am sure there are enough customers experiencing this to form a class action lawsuit against homestead and big commerce on behalf of the many businesses that are being destroyed by this. All interested parties please make your interest known and we can all move forward with this.

I am not sure who you spoke to, but our support user in your store does not have the ability to even view your domain records, let alone change them. Here is our log in for your store. You will see there is no DNS records or Domain name options. Without your Admin password, it is impossible for us to change your domain settings. If you are willing to give us that password then we can log in and look. Please do not post it here. I will send you an email if you wish me to take a look.

Hello george4516, The absolute only time that Community Support agents tell customers to call is if there is something that we simply don't have access to such as the scenario above regarding the domain, as we legally can not access certain parts of customers accounts. Or, when it if its a more complex issue that needs to be discussed verbally. Otherwise we do our best to answer all questions as quickly as we can. If you have a grievance please feel free to create a new post instead of randomly posting to an off topic Help/Discussion thread.

Thank you.

Mike
First of all, feel sorry for you Mike. I know this isn't all your fault and I've been in your shoes.

I have been in contact with a live agent. We worked the DNS switch out. For some reason our cname points to our new big commerce site, yet our domain name when entered or clicked on through google still brings us to the old homestead site.

I am the designer helping customize this product for my client and they are not happy that they cannot use their new site with their domain name.

I am not able to complete the step where I close the homestead store. This seams to be a piece that is necessary for some reason. I get "bad request" when i attempt to click the launch tool.

Please email me for a dialogue, maybe this is an issue other folks are facing too and a work around can be added to this.

There was one setting that was not correctly changed, which I fixed for you. We'll need to wait at least a few minutes to see it take affect. I do need to clarify one thing. Are you still wanting to use the regular site in conjuction with the store, so that if someone types in the "www" subdomain, it pulls up the regular site, or do you want it so that both the "www" and the "stores" subdomains both pull up the store?

Another thing that needs to be double checked is the entry on the Bigcommerce site which I don't have access to. Take a look at Task 1, Step 3 on this page: https://community.homestead.com/homes...

You'll need to make sure you have the domain name entered correctly.

Hello,

I have checked to make sure and you shouldn't have any issues with entering your domain name into your BigCommerce admin. In your Bigcommerce admin, go to "Setup & Tools" then select "Domain names". In the box type "stores.devonshoes", and in the box next to that, type "ca", then click "Use Domain". Once you have done that, you will also need to contact the company that you currently have the domain registered with, and update the "stores" cname record on your domain to point to "store-pi44zsw.mybigcommerce.com". After you have done both of those steps, your domain will start pulling up your BigCommerce store 24-48 hours later.

I believe that I made a mistake. In the advanced DNS settings I selected to replace *, www, stores, and m with with the bigcommerce website information I saw above seems to indicate this is moderately big mistake. I believe I messed something up, but can't tell because this is my first site activation. I've been trying to go back into the advanced DNS Settings to edit them again and set them right, but nothing will load. If someone can help me I would appreciate it.

The search engines will link to stores.yourdomain.com under this configuration, with the sub domain of stores. www is also a subdomain, so there isn't an inherent advantage in the search engines. There are quite a few marketing tools available within Bigcommerce and with us. We do have an SEO and SEM service available.

Hi Drew, Good Morning to you...

I have been decide to make one, There is 2 options here;

A - Option is stores.yourdomain.com

B - Option is Name Servers

I chose to be B - Option is Name Servers, So I went to BigCommerce's Admin Control Panel. I clicked on Setup & Tools, then clicked on DNS Record to find ns1.bigcommerce.com and ns2.bigcommerce.com. I copy it then go to Homestead's account, click Domains, then find Name Servers, so I did change name servers in there. Its take 5 mins fast uptime.

My website is running great and I did inspection all the content's page to be properly functionally. Its work as great. That is what I want for domain.com

I hope that, you can help my little problem.. its about Mail Server. Here is what happened; I had been tested on "Contact Us" Form on the website and "Sent" to Open Exchange Server (Homestead's e-mail) that I have e-mail account in there.

I don't received the e-mail from Contact Us Form. No incoming mail in Open Exchange "OX" server. is there possible to fix this problem?

So, My customers want to communication with my company. Plus, How Do I know, if Customers did placing an order and e-mail to them and us to notice that, they got it and success processed? Such as Invoice to let them know?

It seem not work that way due block mail server or what?

I check from BigCommerce's Admin Control Panel to see DNS Record and Click " Mail Server", I see in there, its says Type = MX, Host = yourdomain.com, mail handled by mail3.bigcommerce.com and priority 10. So, I looked at Homestead's account to find Domains, Advanced DNS Records. I see what is in there.. " @ yourdomain.com and point to mx.yourdomain.com priority 10.

What should I put into there? what is your thought to resolve this problem. Let me know then, This is my last thing to do.

Thanks,

Owen

SmithDistributors ,

If you changed your nameservers, but still want to use Homesteads email, You'll need to update your A records and MX records in the Bigcommerce system. This page shows the records you'll need to add.

Hi Mike F.,

Its nice to meet to you, Thank you for update with me. I clicked your link to see "My email was converted to the new platform. What should my DNS records be set to?"

I did go to BigCommerce's Admin Control Panel. I clicked on Setup & Tools, then clicked on DNS Record to find Mail Servers, Web Hosts. I clicked Web Hosts's tab, I can see Type A and Fully Qualified Host yourdomain.com, Points to .....

Which one I replace with Points to? I see now Type : A next to Fully Qualified Host yourdomain.com, next Points to 74.86.191.100, Do I have to replace "74.86.191.100" to yours Points to, that you gave me a lists, Which one I have to use;

A RECORDS

Host Type Domain Name Points to

mx yourdomain.com 66.96.142.50

mx yourdomain.com 66.96.142.51

mx yourdomain.com 66.96.142.52

pop yourdomain.com 66.96.135.134

imap yourdomain.com 66.96.135.134

smtp yourdomain.com 66.96.135.134

webmail yourdomain.com 66.96.135.48

email yourdomain.com 66.96.135.48

mail yourdomain.com 66.96.135.134

Which one I pick for Points to "Replace"?

Mail Servers.. I see now Type: MX, next Fully Qualified Host yourdomain.com, next mail handled by mail3.bigcommerce.com.

Do you want me to replace to MX RECORDS

Host Type Points to Priority

@ mx.yourdomain.com 10

How does that work that way, Unless if you willing to help convert for me, that would be nice do that. If you can access to my BigCommerce's Admin Control Panel, hmm? Let me know then.

You'll want to remove any MX records that Bigcommerce shows in their system and replace it with the MX record on the page I referred you to. They may or may not have an email related A records so I'm unsure of how to advise you on this. If they do have any, you'll want to remove them and replace them with the ones I referred you to.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Can't turn on store to re-direct to new BigCommerce store.

So, I had a Homestead account with three domains.

I used one of the domains to get the new store set up. That worked out fine.

I went to turn on the stores for the two other domains (after adding them to BigCommerce) and adding the new address into the DNS and the option is no longer there on Homestead; it tells me that my "storefront is powered by BigCommerce."

How do I go about getting this working again? The store comes up with the "Store Unavailable" message.

It looks fine except I would like www.iflyrodholders.com to resolve to the store as well.

Phenomenal work though. Thanks so much for your help!

I have followed all of the instructions to point my domain name to Big Commerce - but when I type in my domain name, I get a message that it has either moved or doesn't exist. I am not at all happy and need help in resolving this problem.
