So you’re ready to have your domain bring up your new Storefront powered by Bigcommerce! Great! You just need to complete the three tasks below:

  1. Log into your Bigcommerce account and obtain your domains Cname record

  2. Log into your Homestead account and enter the new Cname record

TASK 1

1. Log into your store account at Bigcommerce.com. (If you forgot your password click here to reset your password, then return to this page.)

2. Click on “Setup & Tools” in the right hand corner and then choose “Domain Name” under the “Set up your store” column.

3. Type in your domain as stores.yourdomain.com (i.e. if your domain name you use on your Storefront is coloradopuppy.com you would enter stores.coloradopuppy.com).

4. Click the “Use Domain” button.

5. The next screen will instruct you to create a CNAME with your registrar. Take note of your store's canonical name, you'll need this in a minute.

That’s it! Now you need to make the changes on the Homestead side:

TASK 2

1. Log into your homestead.com account

2. Click on “Domains” on the left.

3. Scroll down to your domain and click on “Advanced DNS Editing” under your domain.

4. Click the “Edit button to the left”.

5. Scroll down to the “Stores” CNAME and delete the existing Cname record (It may look like "stores017.homestead.com" but could vary) and enter your Bigcommerce temporary URL that you got in step 5 at Bigcommerce.

Note: If you aren’t given this screen but instead receive a message “Sorry, you cannot edit your advanced DNS settings for this domain here because your domain is not using Homestead nameservers,” you will need to contact your domain provider and update your CNAME record there.

6. Click “Submit”.

7. You’ll be asked to confirm the changes. Hit “Submit” again.

8.  Locate the "www" subdomain and click Edit

9.  Choose Other URL and enter "stores.yourdomain.com"  and click Save.

Now the domain is pointed!

Congratulations! You have now fully launched your upgraded store!

I got my store to work but can't find where I find help for these other problems so I will post here. I have tried to call several times but stay on hold forever.
I have tried to use chat but it asks for a pin # and a support number, both of which are not on my account pages. Migrating to a new store just before Christmas was unbelievable!

Can not configure default country for tax purposes (slider won't work) - United States
Can not make slider work in shipping.
When you configure things they do not show up on the web site.
When you uncheck to indicate that you do not want a handling fee to show up on the shipping cart page it shows up anyway.
Can not get website to acknowledge shipping via USPS - will only show UPS
Can not get website to acknowledge my Paypal pro store - only Paypal express - may not matter but would like to talk to someone about it. The instructions do not match the Paypal product.
Now that it has been eliminated Is there a universal way via css to eliminate the short description (1st line) "Click on the description..." (2nd line) and an extra SKU number (3rd line) in each of my products?

Virginia0399,

We are very sorry for the long hold times and how hard it has been recently to reach a live support agent. Despite our efforts (website postings, emails, phone calls, etc.) with regard to notifying customers of the transition to Bigcommerce and encouraging everyone to take action several months ago, many people have waited to the final deadline, which we've already extended twice.

I'm sorry but we don't have the manpower to make outbound phone calls, as all of our agents are in an inbound call center and handling calls in the order they are received. Here are a couple help topics that will help you with some of the issues you are having above.

PayPal: https://community.homestead.com/homes...

Shipping (be sure to enter dimensions and weights for products): https://community.homestead.com/homes...

Tax: https://community.homestead.com/homes...

I'm not quite sure what you mean by eliminating the short description. Do you just not want it to appear at all?

I'm sorry I can't give you more specific answers on these but need to have more details about where you are stuck. Rather than posting numerous question in a single thread, please post specific questions to the related help topics referenced above so we can focus on a specific problem as each issue may require some back and forth dialogue and it will be much more organized to keep the posts topic specific.

Thank you.

I made the mistake of not adding stores to the front of my domain name, and I am wondering is there a way to reset it. I am a novice at this. But lucky everything else of the change went smoothly.

Thank you for your help!

It seems to be working but, perhaps not the way you intend.

This url https://www.homestead.com pulls up the SiteBuilder website, and
This url http://stores.orthodoxrings.com/ pulls up the Bigcommerce site.

If you want the "www" subdomain to pull up the store, we can easily change that.

Let us know what you would like to do.

Update: I have followed all the instruction to have our domain point to the bigcommerce site but still does not work, i have tried several times and double check everything the dns still does not work.
When I type uniformsbysue.com , i get the old store showing as closed still. if i do
store.uniformsbysue.com them it goes to my new store. but people looking to find my store should not have to put store in front to find my store.

I thought the whole purpose of redirecting was so that my customers will still be able to find me?

Hello Su6675, I see your nameservers are pointed to Ipage. When you are doing this type of pointing, the dns records have to be updated at the company, who's nameservers are being used. You'll have to add the cname record through Ipage, instead of on the Homestead site.

If I had wanted to be a computer "guru" I would have gone to school for it...I was completely happy with my website as it was and now nothing is working and I am losing customers like crazy....I keep getting calls about my website being "down" for maintenance. If you guys wanted to do this, the least you could have done for your customers is to make it a damn site easier.

I followed all the directions for "pointing" my website to the new one, still won't work.

I, for the life of me, cannot figure out the shipping.

Need help with the taxes....

And to make it worse I cannot seem to get through to someone who can help me and get my site back up and running.......I can see some people getting upset to the point of "legal action" because of this.....

Hi Ginger, I apologize for the difficulties in setting up the store. Regarding each of the issues you mentioned above, we'll be happy to help you but just need some details to know what is wrong.

Domain: are you getting any error messages, or what step of the instructions did you get stuck on.

Shipping: Again, we'll need to know a little about how you are trying to configure it. (same with taxes).

The best thing to do, is post detailed questions to the related help topics which you'll find here: https://community.homestead.com/homes...

Mike:
I have been reading this message thread for several days hoping that my solution would pop up, but no such luck. I am experiencing the same problems as everyone else.

I followed all of the steps verbatim, waited 72 hours for the changes to take place, but still I get directed to my CLOSED site when I type my store name into the browser URL. I am correctly routed when I prefix the store name with "stores."

Am I interpreting something incorrectly? www.premiumfoodsbahamas.com

Hi Sue3462, I moved your post to this thread as I think this is where you are stuck. Can you tell me what task or screen above you are stuck on. If you are stuck on the Homestead site with changing the Cname record, just replace the existing "stores" cname record with your new one and save the setting. That is the only change dns change required on the Homestead site.

Hello,

I have followed the instructions step by step. Now when I go to my website ebuuks.com it goes to my original basic website with a link to my new store website address (I have changed the link on that page to my store at bigcommerce web address).
When I look at it my cname which is:

store-3j05s9yx.mybigcommerce.com.

The extra dot at the end is what was sent. I'm wondering if that makes a difference.

Thank you for your help!

I followed the instructions to point the domain name to the bigcommerce site. The web domain name for the big commerce store works, but when I try www.haiglerandwallacestore.com, it still points to the closed prostore.

the web decides my store is gone and I lose my web rating? We were told that the change over would not affect our web standings. Also it is not just google that is directing to the homestead address. Anytime you make a major change to your site there is a chance of a rankings dip. We announced this in this topic several months ago.

Bigcommerce allows 301 redirects to be created, but only from the stores.domainname that you add into the domain section. Unfortunately, it is not possible to do this with the stores.homestead.com URL. When Google begins to index your new site we do expect your results to recover and improve.

When you do the Google search for mountain fit hoods, I get the first result as stores.homestead.com, but the next 3 are for your new store.

This is not acceptable, when searching for let's say snowmobile vent kit ( our best sellers) the homestead URL is the first result that a customer will find, the stores result may be several pages back, the customer will hit that first result and see the store is closed, then go elsewhere. I can't see how we are suppose to be ok with this, I doubt this is the only site that is having this problem. I need this fixed, if this requires me showing up at homesteads doorstep I'm ready to do that what ever the cost, you have put me out of business at this point.

Every host creates a URL similar to this so that a domain is not required to visit the site, so yes Homestead did create it. I don't know why Google picked up on it. Typically, they ignore it in favor of the domain name.

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you set up a Google Webmaster Tools account for the new store. You can then get Google to index the new store and start working with that, but unfortunately we are unable to redirect a URL of stores.homestead.com to the new store.

Katrina4394, All the settings on this end look good. There is one thing that I don't have access to and that is the setting on the Bigcommerce site. Double check Task 1, Step 3 above and make sure you have the domain entered correctly. It must have the word "stores" in front of the domain as shown in the example. This is the most likely reason the site is still not coming up.

Since there are so many complaints and so many problems that are not getting solved, and homestead isn't making any honest hands on effort to help any of us as store owners, nor is big commerce I am sure there are enough customers experiencing this to form a class action lawsuit against homestead and big commerce on behalf of the many businesses that are being destroyed by this. All interested parties please make your interest known and we can all move forward with this.

Bridaldelight0815,

You missed the CNAME as instructed above. You need to add the canonical URL there. I have fixed it for you. It can take a while to resolve. Also, we are not able to edit the domain information on the Bigcommerce side. Please confirm you added your domain as above in the store manager. Not with the www. or with out it. not even with stores. in front, it either says unavailable or takes me to my site before homestead. It is making it impossible to get to my site from any previously linked places. Basically my site is non existent now since the transfer.

I made one fix on this end, so if it's not working in a couple hours, let us know. I see that your primary domain is streetrodshop.com and that the nameservers are pointed to Bigcommerce. Therefore I can not access the dns records. If it's not working in a couple hours, call the number here: https://community.homestead.com/homes... and ask them to look at your cname pointing and DNS records to make sure they are correct.

I have an issue. I went to direct our URL to the new site and see that you are expecting stores.suracdistributors.com. That was an issue when I first set up the web site through you. It was addressed so that that the web site was simply www.suracdistributors.com. It is a stand-alone site. I do not want to have to start adding stores to the domain name. What can be done about this?

Thank you for your help,
Kate Liddle

Hi Kate4836,

The way that our system is set to work, and is definitely set up already on your account, is for the www to auto-redirect to the stores CNAME record. It is actually set up exactly te way that our old StoreFront system was. So if you just follow the steps listed in the directions for redirecting your domain to your new BigCommerce store, the domain will continue to function the same way.

Let us know if you need any further assistance on this.

Matt
