So you’re ready to have your domain bring up your new Storefront powered by Bigcommerce! Great! You just need to complete the three tasks below:

  1. Log into your Bigcommerce account and obtain your domains Cname record

  2. Log into your Homestead account and enter the new Cname record

TASK 1

1. Log into your store account at Bigcommerce.com. (If you forgot your password click here to reset your password, then return to this page.)

2. Click on “Setup & Tools” in the right hand corner and then choose “Domain Name” under the “Set up your store” column.

3. Type in your domain as stores.yourdomain.com (i.e. if your domain name you use on your Storefront is coloradopuppy.com you would enter stores.coloradopuppy.com).

4. Click the “Use Domain” button.

5. The next screen will instruct you to create a CNAME with your registrar. Take note of your store's canonical name, you'll need this in a minute.

That’s it! Now you need to make the changes on the Homestead side:

TASK 2

1. Log into your homestead.com account

2. Click on “Domains” on the left.

3. Scroll down to your domain and click on “Advanced DNS Editing” under your domain.

4. Click the “Edit button to the left”.

5. Scroll down to the “Stores” CNAME and delete the existing Cname record (It may look like "stores017.homestead.com" but could vary) and enter your Bigcommerce temporary URL that you got in step 5 at Bigcommerce.

Note: If you aren’t given this screen but instead receive a message “Sorry, you cannot edit your advanced DNS settings for this domain here because your domain is not using Homestead nameservers,” you will need to contact your domain provider and update your CNAME record there.

6. Click “Submit”.

7. You’ll be asked to confirm the changes. Hit “Submit” again.

8.  Locate the "www" subdomain and click Edit

9.  Choose Other URL and enter "stores.yourdomain.com"  and click Save.

Now the domain is pointed!

Congratulations! You have now fully launched your upgraded store!

The nameservers for sttg.com are still showing Godaddy's, so either your change didn't save or it still hasn't propagated.

Let's give it until tomorrow morning and then I may ask for more information to look deeper.

Drew,

I double checked the nameserver at Godaddy for STTG.com. I still having a problem with StayTrueToGod.com. When I type it in I am directed to my old landing page. when I hit the button to enter the store, it cannot be found. I'm getting emails for customers asking me why I've gone out of business.

Thanks for your help.

The public whois still shows ns43.domaincontrol.com and ns44.domaincontrol.com as the nameservers. You did see ours in there instead? If so, you are looking at an unusually long propagation time, but that issue is on Godaddy's side.

Your link from the website needs to be updated. This is the new link, http://stores.staytruetogod.com

Currently you are using, http://stores.sttg.com/StoreFront.bok

I think after all your help, I got everything pointing the right way...BIG THANKS!

Now my next, and probably last problem is, how do I migrate my inventory counts from the old site. I know how to do the CSV file transfer, but will that simply add to the old count that was created when this whole migration thing started a month ago?

Thanks again,
Joe

Glad to hear it.

You can export both Prostores and Bigcommerce. Take the inventory from Prostores and put it in the stock level in Bigcommerce and import. It should overwrite the quantity.

Make sure you keep a backup of the Bigcommerce export file so that if something goes wrong, you can set it right.

You might also sort both spreadsheets in alpha order and then confirm the products all match up. This assumes you haven't changed any product names or added or deleted products.

My frustration to this change is rapidly moving to being completely "pissed off". This is the 3rd change of hands in a year, fmor intuit, to homestead and now big commerce.... Once again I will need to take time from my busy small business day to call the help line because these so call tutorials are useless!

Hi Shannon1937, I know there has been a lot of change going on with our company, but I think you may be misinformed. When Intuit sold Homestead, absolutely nothing changed with our hosting, products or services. It was merely a brand name change.

Homestead has been a reseller of the Prostores ecommerce platform for many years. Because the Prostores system has become quite antiquated by today's standards we have decided to move to a new vendor, Bigcommerce. Homestead is not owned by Bigcommerce.

If you are stuck with any of our tutorials, please let us know which step and we'll be happy to help you our or clarify anything.

Around a year ago I began to receive phone calls from Big Commerce asking me if I wanted to switch my store to their company. The person on the other end said that several customers had been leaving Homestead and coming to Big Commerce because the prices were cheaper. I compared the pricing and found that in fact Big Commerce is indeed much more expensive...which goes hand in hand with being call Big Commerce. It is a venue for Big Commerce, translation being...it is for Big Business. You see big businesses can afford to pay large prices. We are small business owners. I am wondering what is going to happen to the small prices we are accustomed to paying.. After all we all have clearly been bullied into joining up with Big Commerce. I fear that we will later end up getting bullied even bigger with huge prices.

Your pricing is grandfathered. As long as you don't need to change the package you have you will maintain this pricing.

I have done every task as described however, When I do Task 3 Number 3 and close my store for maintenance then I get a Closed for Maintenance Page when I open my website. Now I reverted back to Open store in homestead and I enter my stores url ion wed browser I get the Big Commerce edition of my store. Why are you saying we need to close the store because it does not work when you do!

I called the number and had to stay on hold for 45 minutes. They guy had me make a change in my store settings to redirect www to no www and told me the store would be up and running in 45 minutes. Well, it's been 2 days now and my store sill shows that it is closed for maintenance. My website is www.righteoussportsnutrition.com, my canonical name is store-Izy26.mybigcommerce.com. I just can't continue to tie up my phone line long enough to get through to customer service on the phone again. I use the same line for my credit card payments and I have to keep hanging up to process my credit card sales. Can someone please check my setting and change what is wrong or let me know what changes I need to make to get this to work? My site has been down for at least 2 weeks now. Thank you!

Sorry for the frustration brain7499, The dns records look correct on this end. We would gladly do this for you except for legal and compliance reasons we do not have access to your Admin Password, which is necessary to complete the steps on the Bigcommerce site. If you want to give us a call and provide the Admin password to the phone agent they can take a look

Or, if you want, if you can copy and paste here, and show me exactly what you have entered (on Task 1, Step 3), we should be able to tell if what is wrong.

Hi Angie, There was one setting that I found that needed changed, but it may take a few hours to take affect. As of now the site comes up using http://stores.sacredpagebooks.com/

but not when using the WWW, The www. is still resolving to the old store. I changed the setting but it may take some time to take affect. If it's not working by tomorrow please reply here and let me know, as there will be some additional things to look at.

please check pandoradebalthazarstore.com
I have done all the steps but if I finalize it with closing the old store, it will just say closed for maintenance.
if I leave it open and go to stores.pandoradebalthazarstore.com then the new one shows up. but if I go to pandoradebalthazarstore.com the old one says closed
there must be something with the domain pointing I am guessing, but I double checked and don't see where I may entered incorrect info at domain pointing.
thanks!

Sorry about the issue with your site. The screen/message that is popping up indicates a problem with the domain pointing. Take a look at Task 1, Step 3 above and make sure you have the domain entered correctly using the word "stores" in front of the domain name.

Please do not make any more changes to your dns records. The cname record is fine and not the problem, when you change it, it takes more time for it to re-propagate again. At this moment it is working on our end. I can see all the records are correct on this end, but I can not see what you entered on the Bigcommerce site. Can you tell me exacltly what you entered in the filed for Task 1, Step 3 above?

Make sure you have "stores.enchanted-magick" in the first field and that in the second field you change the "com" to "net"

Not sure if this is the mistake or not but some people include the .net at the end of the domain in the wrong field.

If the customer is still having the issue, have them clear their cache. I've tested the store on several products and can not reproduce the error. If they still get the problem, and them note the exact steps they are taking, and forward it to us so we can try to reproduce it.

Hello Stephen6545 -

I am not a HS Rep and this may not be the total issue, but your URL should read "stores.reddybread.com" - 'stores', plural - (the temp BigCommerce url is singular 'store'.)

Also, assuming everything is correct - often clearing cache will help obtain quicker results in viewing the new site.

Please let me know how to proceed. I was unable to do this sooner because my new store was not available till after the new year. Only the item names, retails and sku's transferred over. Hi Michele3150. I just took a look at it and it accepted your Cname record, so it looks fine. Do you want the WWW subdomain to direct people to the regular site, or do you want that to direct them to the store? If you want it directed to the store, there's one minor change to make.

Any reason there has been no follow up to my question and resolving this to work correctly? I called since I received no further help here. I was told the everything was set up ok and it can take up to 48 hours for the DNS change to propogate. Well it has been over 48 hours. My old website still pulls up when my domain url is typed in. However, it appears that you have indeed closed my store. Customers are now not able to shop on my site. Why would you not leave the store live until the migration was successful? I suppose I will have to call and wait on hold AGAIN. How about you guys calling us when you read these issues? We are all trying to run businesses and the amount of time I have put into this migration is getting ridiculous. It would of been nice for someone to have told me months ago that I would need to upload 500+ product images and descriptions again. So, once again...what needs to be done so when customers type in my domain name that the new Big Commerce store will pull up?

Sorry, due to the high volume of questions regarding the email and storefront upgrades our response time is a bit longer. We are answering all questions in the order they are received.

When we refer to your regular site, we are talking about the site you created with Homestead's SiteBuilder software. The Storefront would be the ecommerce platform which was formerly on the Prostores system but has been converted to the Bigcommerce system.

It looks like your domain is pionted to the new Store correctly, and is working fine. This link goes to the regular site: http://purpleoniondesigns.homestead.com/ If you are no longer using it you can delete it from your account and it would save you a few dollars.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Mike:
I was able to change the cname records so the new store is live however the website url www.floridaseafood.com still directs to a "store unavailable" message.

Re your response above "Another change that you may or may not have to make depends on if you have a regular site along with your Storefront. If you want the "www" to pull up the Store instead of the related website (or vice versa) you can change the setting shown here."

I'm not able to do this, see screen capture attached, there is no "edit" button as shown in your instruction.

There is also another url www.floridaseafood.org that I want to direct to stores.floridaseafood.com but not able to add subdomain on homestead now. Do I need to change the dns records at the registrar to point to Bigcommerce?
Thanks for your help ~SLM

Hi Peter, you won't have that link because you have only a storefront in your account the WWW will automatically default to the store. I just checked it and it's working fine.

I have had similar problems for the past several days. Followed the instructions multiple times and still no pointing to the new store. Phone support and online chat response is completely unresponsive

Sorry it's taken so long to get to you. The screen that you are getting is because something is not entered correctly on the Bigcommerce site. Take a close look at Task 1, Step 3 above.

This is most likely where the issue is. Be sure you use the word "stores" in front of your domain, and udpate the 2nd field for the .com, .net, etc.

I HAVE DONE ALL THIS AND THE DOMAIN IS GOING TO THE "YOU STORE IS CLOSED" SITE AT HOMESTEAD.

I made on minor change on this end. If it's not working in the next few minutes. Double check Task 1, Step 3 above.

This is completely ridiculous. Done everything that I was supposed to. Still not working. Was told it my computers cache. Nope. This transition was supposed to be "seamless". Nope. Lost almost 600 items from my other store. I was happy with Homestead and ProStores. Will be taking my business elsewhere I guess. I don't even want to think of how much business I have lost. smh

The page that is coming up is almost always a result of the domain not entered correctly Double check Task 1, Step 3 above, and if you still have problems let us know.

this transition is a mess. I am not that computer savy.. this was suppose to be simple. If I wanted to write my own code and create websites I would have gone to school to do so...Mine says closed for maintenance as well. By the way.. I waited an hour for on line chat response... NO ONE RESPONDED!!!!!!

Hi Terry sorry for the recent long hold times that we've been experiencing.

I just made one minor change on your domain pointing. It may take an hour or so for propagation to complete so if your store is not coming up and working soon, let us know.

Mike
