So you’re ready to have your domain bring up your new Storefront powered by Bigcommerce! Great! You just need to complete the three tasks below:

  1. Log into your Bigcommerce account and obtain your domains Cname record

  2. Log into your Homestead account and enter the new Cname record

TASK 1

1. Log into your store account at Bigcommerce.com. (If you forgot your password click here to reset your password, then return to this page.)

2. Click on “Setup & Tools” in the right hand corner and then choose “Domain Name” under the “Set up your store” column.

3. Type in your domain as stores.yourdomain.com (i.e. if your domain name you use on your Storefront is coloradopuppy.com you would enter stores.coloradopuppy.com).

4. Click the “Use Domain” button.

5. The next screen will instruct you to create a CNAME with your registrar. Take note of your store's canonical name, you'll need this in a minute.

That’s it! Now you need to make the changes on the Homestead side:

TASK 2

1. Log into your homestead.com account

2. Click on “Domains” on the left.

3. Scroll down to your domain and click on “Advanced DNS Editing” under your domain.

4. Click the “Edit button to the left”.

5. Scroll down to the “Stores” CNAME and delete the existing Cname record (It may look like "stores017.homestead.com" but could vary) and enter your Bigcommerce temporary URL that you got in step 5 at Bigcommerce.

Note: If you aren’t given this screen but instead receive a message “Sorry, you cannot edit your advanced DNS settings for this domain here because your domain is not using Homestead nameservers,” you will need to contact your domain provider and update your CNAME record there.

6. Click “Submit”.

7. You’ll be asked to confirm the changes. Hit “Submit” again.

8.  Locate the "www" subdomain and click Edit

9.  Choose Other URL and enter "stores.yourdomain.com"  and click Save.

Now the domain is pointed!

Congratulations! You have now fully launched your upgraded store!

Now the domain is pointed! You just have one last step- closing your old store:

TASK 3

1. While logged into your Homestead account click on Store on the left.

2. Click the “Launch Tool” button and answer your security question to get into your Store Administrator.

3. In the store administrator below your business name click the “close store for maintenance” link. You should see the store status near the top left change to “Closed”.

Congratulations! You have now fully launched your upgraded store!

Ok, that redirect isn't going to work. You are going to need to use the Bigcommerce nameservers to make www be the store.

First, in the store, you will now just enter divawalletframes.com in the domain section.

Second, you will need to go to the DNS records and add the records for our email system. Those records can be found in by visiting our mail DNS records topic.

Third, Change the nameservers on the domain to ns1.bigcommerce.com and ns2.bigcommerce.com

Can someone there do this for me please? I really don't want to risk messing things up more. This is why I kept calling and texting last week. Each time I was assured that everything was done correctly and I just needed to wait for it to propagate.

Everything was done correctly for our normal setup to use stores.domain name. I can change it for you, but you will need to create a private conversation and create an admin user for me to log in to the store.

First create the private conversation and I will give you a user name and password to use.

Your settings on the Homestead side seem to be ok. The most likely issue is with the domain on the BC site. Be sure that you double check the way you entered the domain. You need to include the word "stores." in front of the domain as shown in this page: https://community.homestead.com/homes...

Look at Step 3, under Task 1.

Hi. I've done everything here and I'm still having issues. I keep getting a "Store Unavailable" once I try to go to my store using the domain name. Also, when I click on "close store for maintenance” link, I don't see a "Closed" status. It shows "Open Store". What am I missing?

The page you were looking for appears to have been moved, deleted or does not exist.

This is most likely due to:

An outdated link on another site

Hi ESTHER4477,

Sorry for the issue you are having. I'm assuming you did the steps in this thread. If not, they will need to be done. If you already did this, then wait a couple hours and check your site again. I located another dns record (not in the above instructions), that needed updated on our end and it may have been the culprit.

If it's not working in a couple hours please reply back and I'll take another look.

If the domain is registered here at homestead, just follow the steps above. If it's registered somewhere else, let us know and you may have to point the nameservers to Homestead first, if you have not done so.

Michael7354 and virginia5058, I am not sure what either of you are asking, but, the pin numbers we give to every customer are used as an extra layer of security so that when you call us on the phone, we can verify your information so that you don't have to give other sensitive information over the phone such as credit card numbers. If you plan on calling us for telephone support, but don't know your pin number, we can either email it to you, or you can find it by logging into your account and clicking Account (top right), and then Show my PIn from the drop-down menu.

It sounds like you are referring to your new Storefront site. if so, when you are ready, you'll need to perform the steps shown above. Then, if you are still using your regular site as a gateway to the store, you can change the Store link so that it directs to "stores.LaBelleMariposa.com".

Hi!

So, I followed the steps - had no errors or odd screens. After I shut the Homestead store down for maintenance, the only thing I saw when I went to our URL via Google (http://www.elitesterlingsecurity.com/), only the Homestead down for maintenance page shows. I went to BigCommerce dashboard, slid the toggle for Open/Down for Maintenance - still just the Homestead maintenance page. Reopened the Homestead store - the store is back, but does not show the BC link.

Now what? The DNS setting is from BC....

Also, I clicked on the temp store link in the BC section - the BC version of our store looks like crap. How is this acceptable?

First Intuit dumps us on Homestead; now we are getting dumped on Big Commerce. If this is going to be an example of what we can expect, you need to add a few more smiley faces....

The only upside is this will probably motivate our CEO to dump the whole thing for a Custom site.

Mike F., Alum

  • 184,678 Points 100k badge 2x thumb
Greg5258, it looks like you flipped the dns records back to the ProStores site. Based on your description above, you probably entered the domain name incorrectly on the Bigcommerce site. If you look at Task 1, Step 3 on the instructions, you'll see that you need to enter the word "stores" in front of your domain name. This is the most likely reason it showed the "closed for maintenance" message. Here's the link to view the steps https://community.homestead.com/homes...
Photo of Greg5258

Greg5258

  • 80 Points 75 badge 2x thumb
I re-executed all the steps....it see,s to have worked. The new GUI is terrible...given the money we paid to Intuit...that seems to have been money down the drain....

Is this "migration" impacting our emails as well or just the store?
Photo of Greg5258

Greg5258

  • 80 Points 75 badge 2x thumb
Also, none of our hyperlinks are visible as the migration has made them the same color as our background.....
Photo of Kathryn3995

Kathryn3995

  • 160 Points 100 badge 2x thumb
I also had some issues....it seems that when the site transfers over some of the design is altered. I think that is because BIG COMMERCE has different templates and although they try to match them, they might not match perfectly. If you know html code, or someone you know does, you can go into the html coded section and find the issues and correct them. Don't attempt this unless you really know what you are doing, or it might make things worse. It is possible but not without effort.
Photo of Mike F.

Mike F., Alum

  • 184,678 Points 100k badge 2x thumb
Good point Kathryn3995, The html code is more accessible on the BC system, but you still have to be comfortable when working with code. Fortunately the templates are much more modern than the old ones so most sites actually came out looking better after the transition.

You have to change the CNAME on your domain for the host of stores. Change the points to, from stores091.homestead.com to store-zvv34.mybigcommerce.com.

There may be some propagation time, but then you will access the store by going to http://stores.atescandles.com

The store has always had stores. in front of it. You should still be able to access the store via ww.domainname though, It redirects to the subdomain of stores.

When did you change the DNS? Sometimes it takes some propagation time.

There are actually 4 important steps. Pointing the domain is the step that actually makes the new store accessible, but you'll also need to configure your payment processor, and set up your tax and shipping. Here are links to the 4 critical steps.

You will have four required steps to make your new store functional:

Your instructions above state to go to "Setup & Tools" | "Setup Your Store" | "Domain", but there is not a "Domain" option under "Setup Your Store" as depicted in the images above.

Is there something additional we need to setup on Bigcommerce so that the "Domain" option appears, are are there alternate instructions?

Also, if we look under "DNS Records", the domain URL you provided us with for direct access to the store, does not show up. We thought we would mention this if that was contributing to the problem above.

Thank you for your help and assistance.

This should work exactly as it did before, so if you changed the DNS more than 48 hours ago, then we might need to make an adjustment.

If it has been less than that, then we might just need to wait for the Internet to catch up to the settings change.

This all sounds wonderful ~ but if you can not log in to BigCommerce ~ it is worthless. Been trying for weeks and no help or response from anyone. Sure does not make me feel good about the change over. All I am asking for is help to log in to BigCommerce ~ I can not close my ProStore because I can not point to the new store before the 31st day of December. Assume I will have to close my entire website down. Help.

How have you been trying to contact us?

Did you receive an email with login credentials?

You can go here, store-n91so80g.mybigcommerce.com and use the forgot password link to get a password reset. The user name is admin.

If you have had trouble receiving the password reset, please check your spam filter. The mail should be going to an aol address. If it isn't in the spam folder, then let us know and I will get a password set for you and email to you. You can change it once you login.

Thanks

Mostly same issues as above. I've followed all instructions as written more than 48 hours ago.

www.cruzeswingsandthings.com defers to old homestead site which is under maintenance b/c I close it.

www.stores.cruzeswingsandthings.com gives a page not found error.

The actual store link sent to me by biocommerce works aok. I've verifiied that this is exactly what's entered into the homestead dns changes.

Ideas? Help?

well...not sure if this will help anyone or not...but after around 56 hours, my website just started magically working! Maybe just a timing issue...

Thanks for the update. It usually does take some time for the DNS changes to take effect. (usually not that long though).
