Hi Mike,
I too am having trouble changing dns servers. I purchased topnotchdjservice.com from homestead some time ago. The page now reads invalid, and I am attempting to have the domain point to the new webpage domain topnotchdjparties.com which is actually through a different host. Can you help? Thanks!

Are you getting some sort of error message, or where are you stuck?

What are the nameservers you are trying to add?   I'll try to update them from my end.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. Im not sure of the nameserver. I'm attempting to make my domain which I purchased with Homestead some years ago (which is topnotchdjservice.com) to redirect my visitors to my current domain and website which is topnotchdjparties.com. I've read forums on here as well as tried many different methods of "pointing" the first domain to the other, as well as "redirecting" the domains and have had no luck. What can be done with the homestead domain (topnotchdjservice.com so that it sends customers to the current domain that I'm using?

The easiest thing is to just associate both domains with the same site. However when you do this, a redirect does not take place and the visitor will still see topnotchdjservice.com in the address bar rather than the other address you are directing to.

If you want the url to flip so that they see topnotchdjparties.com, then you could create a single blank web page for topnotchdjservice.com, and place some redirect html code in the head section so that when someone types in that address the code acts as a hyperlink and sends them to the other url.

We can guide you on whichever option you prefer.

Ok, thank you for the recommendations. I like the second option regarding placing a hyperlink on a blank page for topnotchdjservice.com so it will send my customers to topnotchdjparties.com. Can you advise on the necessary to complete this procedure? Thanks again for all of your help here Mike, it is certainly appreciated.

If you wan't I can go ahead and just set that up for you.  I do see another detail you'll need to know about.  Your domain is current hosted on a plan which was a special offering at $9.99 per year.  You'll need to have a hosting plan that gives you at least one web page for us to proceed. Your current plan does not include any web hosting.  If you wish, I can convert it to a different plan which is $14.99 per year and then it gives you the ability to create one web page which we can use for the redirect code. Would you like me to proceed?

Hey Mike,
Yes please feel free to set that up for me. Changing plans is not a problem at all if it means resolving a solution to this dilemma. I would be more than happy to pay $14.99 for the alternative plan. Yes, please proceed. Would I need to take any additional steps on my end for the page to point to my other domain?

Joseph4943,   does the site with domain  topnotchdjparties.com, not have an "index.html" file. The index file is normally the home page of every site.  When I pull up that domain direct, it displays the url below. with the page name of "/Top_Notch_Home.html"

http://topnotchdjparties.com/Top_Notch_Home.html

Is this the url you want it to redirect to?

Ok. I made the changes.  We'll need to wait about 30 minutes to test it. If you notice that it's not working please let me know.

I don't believe it's working. I just typed in the domain to test and received the following Http/1.1 Service Unavailable "

Great! I just checked it and that is exactly what I was trying to do! Thanks so much for your help Mike, it would have most likely taken me weeks of reading forums to figure that out. I really do appreciate it!!

Hi kkitnkaboodle7727,

Typically you will get nameservers from the new host. If you have email service at the domain, then you will not want to do this without checking first. There are a couple of different ways to do it.

I am looking to update my name servers and I am told that my web site DNS is through homestead (nameservers). Where do I go to make changes? I login to go to the Domains section but it just comes up with "MY Account." Nothing domain related.

I would like to transfer my domain name to wix.com and they said I need Homestead to connect my domain to their name servers. Is this the correct way to do this?

Changing the nameservers won't transfer the domain. It would still be hosted at Homestead, but would pull up your site at Wix. I don't believe that Wix hosts domains, but if they do, then transferring is an option.

I have been trying for nearly a week to get Homestead to point my domain to a new site I built on Wix.com. After more than one agent chat with Homestead, I am getting nowhere. I need to get my site up and running ASAP. I need to point my domain (www.southwestmissouriprocess.com) to the following name servers: ns6.wixdns.net (104.155.4.17) ns7.wixdns.net (146.148.84.171). Please help, I am very frustrated!!!

Hello,

Please try and change the nameservers as shown in the article above. If you need further assistance, let us know.
It doesn't work -- there is no option to change nameservers when I am managing my domain.
Under manage my domain the only options I have under Domain Control is edit contact info, edit domain locking, email your authorization code, and delete domain.

This is because your account is still on the trial period. After the trial is up and a payment is made, this will unlock. I can update the nameservers for you if you provide them.
Thanks William, please point them to ns.nocdirect.com and ns2.nocdirect.com

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled How do I point my domain to a NON-Homestead url?.

I have built a new website with a different hosting provider and want to point my existing homestead url (301 redirect) to the new url. When I click on the "change site association" there is no option to add a new domain.

This should be a very simple solution...I just cannot find it and any help would be appreciated.

Hi Sharon5031,
See above to point your site to a different hosting provider. Be sure to contact the hosting company for their nameservers, but if you have email hosted with Homestead, you'll want to either provide the new host the current email records, or you can provide us your new host's shared IP so we can A Record point over.
