2nd domain.

I have just purchased a 2nd domain - but the domain name is tied to the extension .homestead.com (which is not the domain name I selected) - example: janedoe,homestead.com. How do I to the following:

1. get rid of the extension so it is just www.janedoe.com

2. how do I create a new website for my 2nd domain name - because my new website is tied to my first website and when I look under manage domains - my 2nd domain list the name of my first.

Thank you

i have tried what was posted. That will only give me options on the websites created by homestead. It does not let me add my own url from the dropdown. I want to re-direct to a social site i created with another company.

The easiest thing would be to point the domain by changing the nameservers as long as the other company supports it. If you can get their nameservers and make the updates as shown here: https://community.homestead.com/homes... it will be relatively simple.

I got my domain today, built my site, published and now it's like it doesn't exist. It actually points to one of my other sites. I changed that but it hasn't worked. I cannot find the site I built although it is in my domains list. Please advise, am I moving too swiftly?
It seems I didn't read the first email. OK that's good but what about the site I built. Do I have to start over or can I find it stashed somewhere??????

Hi Robert8891, I see the new domain, but you also have several sites. It appears you just need to connect the new domain with the appropriate site. Follow the steps above and it will show you how to associate the domain with the appropriate site.

Yes. If your account currently has just a single site, when you register the domain, it will automatically associate itself with the existing site.  If your account has multiple websites and you register the new domain, you can designate which site you which for it to be associated with by following the steps above.  If you need help, just tell us the domain name and site name and  we can do this for you.

Good morning Terry0083,

Once you finish the new site, publish it, and then follow these steps.  Once you change the site association it can take up to 30 minutes to switch.

Thanks

Ok, click on the domains tab and then on the websites manager.  Drop down the site selector and you should see your new domain there now.  You can click on choose design and go from there.

Help! Additional website points to first website when they should be two separate sites.

Hello,

We bought a new domain recently as a separate entity to our current site.

The new website is to be a standalone site, but we notice that it points to the domain of the old site.

Could you tell us how to ensure it is seen as a separate site please. (hope this makes sense!)

Thank you :)

Got it. Under the edit site button in the websites manager, you will see several links. Click on More, then you will see rename site. Click that and change the name under option A. You can't have 2 sites with the exact name at the same time, so you may need to name Site 1 to Site 3, then name Site 2, Site 1, then Site 3 to Site 2. Does that make sense?

Hi Drew, so I had to change both websites first to a temporary names then change them to the correct names. There was also a rename button beside the name.
The photos with sites disappeared when I reopened then, is that normal?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Newly published site still contains old site name..

I have just updated and built a new site. I want this to be one of the two main sites. www.MarshaRoss.net is fine; I built a new site and own the domain austinrossrealestate.com. This was done and then published the other day. I then went in and told it to point all of my other domain names, except for marshaross.net to this new site. However, when I go back in now, it is still only pulling in the RossRealtyServices.com site to work on and I want this one to disappear and be AustinRossRealEstate.com as well. AustinRossRealEstate.com is the one I want to be on top! I am sure I am saying this wrong, but i have created the site, published it, done all the pointing, cleared the cache, etc. and still it goes to rossrealtyservices.com

You have 3 different websites. The middle one in the list has several domains attached to it. Only 1 domain didplays in the drop down per website. When you edit rossrealestatetexas.com you are editing austinrossrealestate.com, austinrossrealestatetexas.com, and rossrealestateaustin.com because they are all associated to the same site.

That is where the problem lies.  I want only austinrossrealestate.com to be the main site that I build (built already) and everything else to point to that site.  I no longer want rossrealtyservices to be on the top.  The rossrealestatetexas has never even been touched, only austinrossrealestate and rossrealtyservices.  Maybe it would be easier to talk on the phone?  512.797.3903

I'm sorry, if you wish to speak with someone then you will need to call support. I can tell you that when you when you have multiple domains associated with one website, only 1 of those domains will display in the drop down. Typically it is the first one that was associated to the site. We have no way to change this. If you aren't using or don't want any of those domains, you can delete them. They will expire eventually and someone else can register them.

rossrealestatetexas is austinrossrealestate.com, austinrossrealestatetexas.com, and rossrealestateaustin.com. When you edit one you edit all.

Okay, I will call support.  I was only working on austinrossrealestate.com before I published the site and then had re-pointed/associated the sites to austinrossrealestate, even rossrealtyservices, but now austinrossrealestate is no where to be seen.  I do want all of the domains, but I only want to edit one of them and I want that one on the top, so to speak.

Thank you so much for your time and efforts.

Ok. You can create a new site with no pages and associate all the domains you don't want to that new site. This would mean those domains would not bring up any website at all.

It is not possible to change a domain name. You can delete your current domain and register a new one. This process will break all existing links to your site and require that your site start over in search engine results. It is better to add the second domain and only advertize the new name. Overtime it will achieve a higher ranking, then you can remove the old domain. This process can take a long time.
