I got my website onto the first page of google for various searches like "SAT tutoring Monterey" and "SAT tutoring Santa Cruz" and "SAT tutoring Walnut Creek."
That took a lot of work and that is why people pay a lot of $$$$ for SEO work. I may quit tutoring and just do SEO, one of these days.

Hello Garrett,

You might find the information in this topic to be helpful. For meta tags specifically, they haven't really been used in the last several years (Google Webmaster Blog on meta keywords). The main things I would recommend spending time on is the actual text that appears on your pages and your page name & description (updating your page name and description in SiteBuilder Plus).

I hope that helps and if you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask.

Sincerely,

Garrett,
You can't focus on just your site; you have to do stuff outside of it.
I can give you some free advice. Email me:

If it takes too long for your site to show up on search engines I guess you can always open an account at Google Adwords or Bing Ads and pay $.05 a click to really drive traffic to your site.
Why is it no one ever says that?

Hello Paul9963,

Great suggestion. I would just advise to make sure to take some time to research on the keywords you choose for any ads since the cost per click can vary quite a bit depending on the keywords.

Also depending on the search engine, where ads are displayed can vary quite a bit and research does show most visitors click on organic listings (ie not ads), but if you are look for fast traffic, it can be a great place to start.

I haven't personally run any ads for my online store; mostly because I sell jewelry (geeky jewelry that isn't very expensive) and having jewelry as a keyword was pretty pricey the last time I had personally looked, so I would just pay attention to what you are paying per click and your conversation rate to make sure it is a good fit and the ads are working well for you.

I hope that helps and thanks for the suggestion Paul9963.

Sincerely,
Mindy G

I had the same issues with my first couple of sites. Google has bots that searches sites for things like content. Not just a couple of paragraphs. They look for original articles and pics and videos etc... Seo (search engine optimization) is a complicated matter. You can have a very good looking site but if certain things aren't done to it then google will not rank it. Fortunately I have a friend who has been helping me. You can email me and I can let you know what I know. Maybe I can help you get out of the gate faster. Email me at:

I originally had bayviewglendrycleaners.com as my URL, but wanted to take out the 'dry' and so I deleted the domain all together and used bayviewglencleaners.com. When I type in the address 'bayviewglencleaners.com' in the address bar to try and see if its up, I get the server not found message...

People are so cheap. They don't want to pay to have their website on page 1 of google results. That's like not paying for a tv commercial. Advertising isn't free, you know?

If you want a pro to do your SEO, let me know.

By the way, is Homestead knowingly spreading the Yontoo (Topic Torch) virus? It covers the screen with ads,

Hi All,

In regard to Philip8977's comment about Yontoo, this is something that Homestead is not spreading. It is adware that is a browser ad on which can be downloaded to your computer when you're downloading software. We are not affiliated with Yontoo in any way.

If you see ads or hyperlinks (text links) on your website that you did not add yourself, it's most likely adware that you can remove doing an antivirus scan.

Please let me know if you have any questions, thank you.

Hi Angello1023,

Among the suggestions above, we do offer SEO (search engine optimization) as well as PPC (pay per click) advertising, which are paid services.

You can learn more by clicking Add-on Services > Get more customers

Hope this info helps, thanks!

Scroll back up and look on the right where it says "The mood in here".
Not very good is it?This is a serious issue with Intuit and even after 5 months of using this site I can only get traffic to my page by sending a link or telling people where to go. This is no way to get exposure on the internet.
So am I supposed to name my business and call myself "google Local Upholstery Englewood, Port Charlotte, Sarasota, Venice, Florida Area, custom sewing, enclosures" etc etc etc?
I can't understand why this would not be the very first thing Intuit fixed or outlined with the videos that have everything BUT this issue. There simple is no way to submit meta tags or register anything to a search engine anywhere. It took me me 4 months to even find the page with the link on Google.
I simply give up. I'll pay someone to build my page register the domain and get a server. I need to get work and customers and this just is NOT WORKING!
got to www.stitchshifter.com because you will never find it otherwise.

Also note the "submit to google" and "submit to Bing" links above cant seem to log into google even though I'm logged in on another tab and in my G-mail. Of course I will have to go reset my google password a few dozen more times now and probably get locked out of my gmail that I hate for all the same reasons. Does Google ever have anything that doesn't lock or jamb or screw up?
Don't forget to look for stitch shifter designs on metacafe vimeo youtube and many more. the only thing you won't find is my web page because its is on Intuit.

Now that your site is online, you'll want to start promoting it on the search engines. There are to good first steps you can take.

1. Get you domain registered on the major search engines. Just follow the steps in this thread.

2. Another option is to use our Weblistings. This is generally my first recommendation for new websites. You can think of the Weblisting as the new "modern day" phone book. We'll get you business listed in a large number of online directories and it will get pickup up by the search engines as well.

Let me know if you have questions.

Mike

Hi nomorelockeddoors20131630, I double checked your website and it is indeed published and online. The issue you are experiencing is that your site is brand new and Google (as well as the other search engines), just doesn't know that your site exists. If you follow the steps in this thread it covers the basics as for getting your site found on the search engines.

This subject can get to be a little complex, so if you have more questions let us know.

If this post helps, please give a "Star" and complete this survey to rate my performance

Thanks!

Hi:

I created my website some weeks ago but when I search for it using key words on my home page, it's still not coming up on the top. I've added Traffic Booster to my account as well and thought this would help. Please let me know what can be done to get my site on top in the search engine lists. Thanks.

Homestead chose those keyword when I paid them $150 month to handle it. The SEO plan was a joke so I bought a few books and I'm trying to do this myself.

I checked your account and I see you cancelled your SEO service after less than two months. (and were refunded). This is not nearly enough time for your website to earn a high ranking and you also would not have benefited from the ongoing link building, which is why we have you read and accept the Terms of Service and make sure our customers are aware that there is a six month minimum, and you agree to the keywords.

Feel free to contact us if you would like to discuss the details of your situation.

i have had sites at homestead for years a t one point one of my pirate sites was number one, now google sees a redirect and offers zero coverage of sites at homestead i would like to use domains names i own to make it a direct path for search engines

It seems like you must be using a domain forward to your Homestead accounts. This is indeed a bad practice and the reason we do not offer that service on domains registered with us. What you will want to do is point the domains to us. This will eliminate the redirect caused by forwarding. Unfortunately as you have already lost the ranking you had, you will have to earn your way back up.

If you would like to speak with someone concerning marketing your site or sites, I can arrange that for you.

Thank you

Drew
