There are 3 main things to consider:
- Content
- Make sure that you have enough content on the site for search engines to scan. Generally this will be several paragraphs about your business or services that you provide.
- Write a short introduction or statement on your index page.
- Search engines value a site that has content, and they can only make decisions based on what is read from your site.
- Identify a few keyword phrases that you would like your website to be found by. A keyword is a phrase or search term that someone would use when trying to find a business like yours.
- Include your 'target market' such as the town you do business in, as well as a specific product or service. A good example of a keyword phrase would be 'plumber in Menlo park'.
- Incorporate keywords into the content of your site. A rule of thumb is you should be using a keyword at least once for every 75-100 words of content.
- Find a balance so that your sentences don't sound like they are only keywords. However, you still want the most common phrase from the site to be your keywords.
- Make sure that you update your Meta Tags to include these keywords. Meta tags are keywords and phrases that are embedded in your websites, but not visible on the page. Search engines make decisions based on your site content, meta tags and other sites that link to your website with the same phrases. Read about updating Meta Tags.
- Use Google AdWords to get assistance. It can help you:
- Determine how many people are searching for your phrase
- Determine how many sites are competing for it.
- Find other keywords that you can use.
- Use phrases that are being searched. Don't spend time trying to get found by a phrase that is not being searched for, or that is used by a million other websites.
Note: The Google AdWords keyword tool is Google's tool. We reference it because it can be a good tool. We can't support you if you have trouble with it. You will need to use this at your own risk.
- Start submitting your site to search engines. This tells them your website is live. Most search engines have a form for this. Here are links to a couple major search engines submission forms.
- Make sure that a search engine gets a consistent view of your site however they may find you. This helps them to be more confident that your site is relevant for the keywords you've used.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for posting! It looks like you added in some extra html code that wasn't needed into your head tag. I removed the code and just left the verification meta data. Please try verifying your website again.
Thanks!

Thanks for the response. The Weblistings is great for getting your name out there, but it doesn't update your website's meta data. It looks like you've already updated them, but in case you want to edit them, please check out editing page titles and meta descriptions.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for re-inserting it. I did move the code to your header tag location so if you try to verify your website now, you should be good to go.
Thanks!

Sorry for the frustration. Which method are you using to get your site verified by Google? I would recommend the meta tag method, but please let me know which one you want to do and I can further investigate.
Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion. Are you asking how to verify your website through a meta tag or how to edit your meta tag information?
Thanks!

Welcome-
Yes, that should take care of it as soon as Google uddates their search results.
It won't happen immediately as it does take some time for the results to update, but there is nothing more you can do on your end.

It looks like you've just recently published your site. Not showing up in search engines right away is normal, it does take some time for your site to get added as a search result.
You can use the info above to increase your chances of becoming indexed faster and having a better ranking.
Hope this helps, thanks!

My business is a service, not a product. I am a Mechanical Designer.
How can I get my listing higher in a Google or Bing search?
If you type in words that would be used to find my website such as "Mechanical Design", you will always get pages and pages of job listings from "Indeed" and other job location sites first. What can be done to change this if anything?
Is it money? Give me an honest answer.

The information listed above is a great way to get your site added to search results, but what you're inquiring about essentially takes time and money.
The main thing people want for their website is to be one of the top search results on the first page or two of Google, Bing and other big search engines.
Where you show up in the search results is called your organic ranking. Basically, you're placed where search engines feel you should be ranked against all of the other websites that show up for the same key phrases.
When you want to increase your organic ranking, your best bet is SEO (search engine optimization). It's not a one time thing you can setup and let run, it's something that requires maintenance on an ongoing basis.
There are many companies that offer SEO services, but none (that I know of personally) that can beat our pricing.
If you'd like more information, I'd be happy to provide that or get you in touch with someone who can go over this in more detail with you.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance or if you have any other questions.
Thanks!

Tips for doing your own seo.
You're correct, meta tags doesn't help much, if at all, for being found. However, meta tags can be added to the head section of your page, using html code.
Hope this helps, thanks!

Welcome to the community!
You've added Traffic Booster to your account, that is different from SEO (search engine optimization); Traffic Booster generally takes 4 - 6 weeks to get your site listed locally.
I also notice you've just recently built and published your website, showing up as a search results is not something that happens immediately.
You may find the information above helpful, they are tips on how to help your site get more visibility within search engines.
Hope this helps, thanks!
