Hi Sarah, SSL or HTTPS are used to encrypt data between the website and the server. This would be used if your website was requiring customers to enter financial details like a debit/credit card details. HTTPS is also the up and coming A rating by search engines such as Google. Homestead does not support SSL or HTTPS at this time. If you are looking to take payment via your website you could opt for a simple store account from Homestead that provides all the security needed or you could opt for a third party application such as Paypal. With regards to registering as a secure website ( HTTPS) by search engines Homestead are keeping an eye on this latest search engine trend and if it appears to disadvantage thier customers websites they will do something I am sure.
