Hi!  I am ready to transfer my domain to homestead.  The homestead info says email will be down for "some time" while the transfer occurs.  Can someone let me know more specifically how long?  We run a business and 90% of our orders come via email.  Thanks for your help!

When you initiate a domain transfer to Homestead, Homestead will eventually add our MX records to the domain, and it may be down for a few days.

If you created email boxes on Homestead before hand, this will try to help prevent many emails from failing to send. If you need to create the boxes beforehand, let us know so we can help with that. After the domain has been transferred and email records are pointing to the right spot, we can remove the emails from Homestead then.

If I point the domain name to my homestead account will i still get all of the email benefits?  Or do I have to transfer the domain name to homestead to get email through homestead?

You are able to use our email service via a pointed domain with no trouble. If you use our nameservers the records will be add for you. If you want to use different nameservers, we would need to provide the DNS records you would need to add.
