Hello,

If you are receiving a message saying your domain is expired when going to your domain, then you will need to renew your domain with us. Failure to renew your domain could result in losing ownership of the domain. In order for your domain to stay active so it will not expire, your domain will need to be on an active Homestead account that is in good standing.

If you need to renew your domain, you can create a private conversation here at the community, or contact our support by either chatting with a representative online or calling at 1-800-710-1998.

If I purchase my domain name somewhere else, but I use it on Homestead's server, can I still pay for the domain on my own when it expires, or does it then have to be paid for through Homestead? Thanks.

This only applies to domains being hosted by us. You would renew with the company you purchased the domain with.

...But if I transfer the domain name that I paid $6 for a year to Homestead after I build my site, then do I get charged $2 a month (plus a $5 setup fee) even though the name is paid up for a year?

I am not sure when you bought the domain, but you would not be able to transfer it for a minimum of 90 days. That's another ICANN regulation. If you did transfer it, then yes, you have the correct pricing, however, expiration dates are not reset, so you don't lose what you have paid for.

Your account is domain hosting only. It does not have a website with us. It may be an issue of pointing. You may need to update the nameservers to point to wherever your site is hosted.

This afternoon I cancelled our Homestead website but fully intended on keeping our domain through homestead. Apparently I did not achieve that. Now when you type in our domain name it takes you to a porn site. NICE! Then across the top it asks me if my domain name has expired and when you click on the link it takes you to this Homestead page. Interesting and rude and the same time! What do I do to keep my domain name and get it out of the "expired" category?

We would need to reopen your account as a domain hosting only account. You have several domains. Do you want all of them or not? Each domain would be $14.99/year. That includes domain privacy and 1 email address for each domain. You would also need to delete all the website pages and files from Sitebuilder before we can switch it.

If you want to renew it, I can do so when reopening the account. Please specify the domains you want to keep and the ones you no longer want.

I received your email about confirmation YES please to all of the above...FYI.. when I follow the link I receive in the emails with our conversations, it sends me to a log in page, which says my account is closed. I am only able to respond to you by going through your personal link Drew profile where I set up an account with the Getsatisfaction site and then that allowed me to respond in line here with you. But yes open the account and delete all pages and files then switch it to domain hosting only for each domain being 14.99

I did not notice that you also have a Storefront. Do you still use that for ecommerce or should I remove it? If I remove it, all data will be lost. Sales data, design, product images and descriptions. The account is open again, so you should not have a problem with the link any more. Let me know about the store. You also have a marketing package that will need to be removed to make the switch. I am sorry I missed these items earlier.

I am now able to log into my account and it appears as if all domains are up and running. Now do I need to transfer my domains to Wix? Because now my old web site with Homestead is coming up. I want my domain through you and my site through Wix.

You can edit the nameservers on the Domains tab for each domain. You need the namerserver information from Wix

If we leave the storefront up how does that affect things. I have a staff member that may want to get info off that and then we can close it. 
Also I want people directed to our new site...does that show it is process? or do I have to do it over again through Wix?

To get the new sites working on the new host, you will need to get the namerservers and update them via Homestead domain manager. Do you have those nameservers?

You don't need to do anything more via Wix. Shall I delete the Homestead site or wait until you get it switched to Wix? Usually it is better to have something come up, so until you tell me it is switched, I'll leave it alone. I can't switch to domain hosting until we remove the sites and the store, but, you won't be billed again until 12/02. If you can get what you need off the store before that then we can switch you easily enough.

Do I need to do anything else in regards to the Domain? Like..unlock it? I initially wish to just redirect and connect with my new site. Then I will formally transfer my domains to Wix. meanwhile do I need to do anything other then edit my nameservers for the connection to take place?

This is the strangest thing! Now when you search fetterfree.org it takes you to our old Homestead home page but then when you click on any tabs it take you to our new Wix site. Can't get over this! Any ideas?

Did you follow these steps?

  • To connect a secondary domain:
    1. Sign in to your Wix account.
    2. Hover over the Subscriptions tab.
    3. Click Domains.
    4. Hover over the domain that you want to use as a secondary domain.
    5. Click the General tab.
    6. Click Connect next to Connects to site.
    7. Click Connect next to the site that your primary domain is connected to.
    8. Select the first option (Connect both domains).
    9. Click Continue.


  • Note: Allow 24 hours for the redirection to propagate. For the first 24 hours, the site is available under two domain names (both the primary and secondary domain). After 24 hours, when typing the secondary domain name, the address in the browser's address bar changes to your primary domain name.

We usually say up to 48 hours. They are saying 24 hours is possible. So we'll need to let if complete. It is off our servers now regardless, so I will go ahead and remove the site. Tell me if you want to keep the store until someone can look. I can't switch to domain hosting until it is removed as domain hosting is only billed as an annual account and that would charge you for the year of a store too.

Ok, I have you all set. It is going to charge around $45 tonight after the credits from the package change. Then a year from today, it will charge the regular annual amount of $59.96 for all 4 domains in total. This assumes you don't change the package.

Thank-you Drew. You have been most helpful. I would give you a 10 out of 10! Unfortunately I was not happy with very unprofessional manner that was used to get our domain business back. I assume you personally had nothing to do with that. Do you have a number or link that I can use to make a formal complaint not against you but against Homestead's process?
A big part of our website is used by people struggling with addiction, by Homestead pointing our domain name to a porn site it could have huge ramifications for them, their families and our ministry. I would like to make that clear to Homestead so that another less destructive choice could be made. In fact, an email notifying me would have been so helpful and professional:-)

Thank you, and I have already shared your comments with the management team. I will see I was confused as well, and have never seen that happen before, and I have been here about 6 years. When an account closed or expired it would simply go to the Homestead homepage. When you mentioned it initially, I went and confirmed it, and talk a screen shot to show the management team.

If you would like to write a separate letter concerning this issue, please send it to compliance@homesteadsupport.com, but as I said, I have already shared this with all the appropriate people.

Yesterday (Friday), at 8:57am I received an email telling me that my credit card information was not updated. Indeed my old credit card had expired.

I updated a few hours later the account with the next expiration date. Yet, I am surprised by the fact that this morning my website expired and is currently offline.

I sincerely find this policy extremely unprofessional given that the situation was already solved.

I am extremely frustrated by your services and would like to request you to act on putting the website back online.

I will be looking in to this. I am not sure why the account closed when it did. It does not appear as though that should have been the case. The domain did not actually expire, but is closed down with an account closure. Our policy provides 35 days from the first failed billing to account closure, but for some resson this did not happen. We truly apologize for the inconvenience. The domain came back online shortly after the account was updated and is pointing to your website host again.

I have two (2) websites.  www.seabreezebahamas.com and www.baybreezebahamas.com  The system will only allow me to access the baybreeze account.  Seabreeze is still down!  This is so frustrating, and I am losing customers.  I am looking to change to a new service that cares about my business.

IT can take up to 48 hours.

I have bought a domain, www.conferences-yangon.com at homestead.com. Then I try a starter package on homestead.com. It is free for the
first 30 days. Before these 30 days, I delete my account at homestead.com as I have no sufficient time. I hope I will received my refund after stopping the services, but I didn't receive my payment. I call the number provided, but fail to get my refund. How should I proceed with my domain and my refund.

k9134 The 30 day free trial is on the hosting package only. The hosting package you selected did not include a domain. When you registered the domain it showed that it would be billing the account immediately. The same with the LocalLift option. Unfortunately, these are prepaid options that we are unable to refund. The domain is registered to you for the next year. You are welcome to use it at any host if you choose, but for the charges you incurred we are unable to provide a refund.

Hello and Hello, I Paid for my Website this afternoon and Looked on my phone to find it Activated and Online. Here is the Deal. I went back to my palce and looked online and found that my site was offline, oddly. I paid for it and looked at my credit card History and the bill has gone through. Your site is displaying for me. The domain is active and pulling up. It might have just taken some time. If you only looked at the phone, Dudamobile scrapes your published site every few hours. If the account had been closed, it would have scraped a blank page. It seems to have updated. Do you still have an issue?

Mine has been like this for a month. My husband told me to delete the site but I meant to keep the domain. I talked to a representative the next day and they activated it again. There was a billing issue (but it was homestead servers, not me because I couldn't even update billing), but then a few days later the $5 fee came out. This was almost a month ago and it is still not active.

well, I had to figure it out on my own. It would have been nice to receive a notice in email that my billing method needed updating. I,m still yet to receive any email from Homestead. I have both of my email addresses linked to one mobile app. So I would have seen it. And I get on home pc and go through email there too.. Even when I called today,the guy was very nice but unhelpful. He could have just said "update your billing" see how easy that was?

I am sorry you had this issue. We do send at least 4-5 emails when billing fails before an account will close. Depending on the issue and the email on file sometimes you may not be able to receive those messages.

Got an email today saying my domain names have expired, and email or website services are no longer available. but for weeks ive been trying to figure out how to renew? i created my site from intuit year ago then got moved by them to homestead, is there a renew button or  somewhere?

The credit card I had on file expired and there was a lapse in payment before I realized it and updated the billing information.  My website www.tomberlawn.com is still down, but my new card has been billed twice since updating the info.  Fix this please.
