Under the old Sitebuilder I created a site for my local amateur dramatics group many years ago, We're a not for profit group run by volunteers and the committee didn't have the funds to pay for a domain, opting to keep the name 'framfieldstagers.homestead.com' as it wasn't too long. Many of our audience members and sponsors have become familiar with that URL over the years. I decided it was time to modernize our website, make us mobile friendly, etc. and have created a new site to replace the old one, using Websitebuilder. It wouldn't allow me to call it 'framfieldstagers' as, of course, that name already exists. Knowing I could change it to 'framfieldstagers' once the old site was deleted, I have temporarily gone with 'stagers'. However, I see the end part is now 'homesteadcloud.com' instead of 'homestead.com', so when I change the name it will become 'framfieldstagers.homesteadcloud.com'. Is there any way I can arrange for pointing, as can be done with a personalised domain? (i.e. if someone types in the old URL it will automatically redirect them to the new 'homesteadcloud.com' site?) I will continue to try and persuade the committee to pay the small annual fee for a personalised domain, but if they don't it's going to be my laborious job to re-do all our printed publicity material and amend everything online, from social media to directory listings.

Hello,

Since the two software's are completely separate, unfortunately Homestead does not have a way to change the extension of the new site url ending in .homesteadcloud.com. We also are not able to forward the site url .homestead.com to the .homesteadcloud site since it would need to be done with DNS settings and those are only attached to domain names. What would be possible is if you are able to find a HTML redirect code that forwards to the new site url, you can place that code on the .homestead.com site and have visitors redirected to the .homesteadcloud.com site. I would also recommend considering getting a domain name attached to the site to make it the easier on you and your customers.

Thanks Michelle. Your suggestion of an HTML redirect code has done the trick. At leas whilst I try to persuade them to have a domain name. Thank you! x
