Is anyone else having problems with emails either not being delivered or bouncing back?  I've had it happen several times to the point that I am beginning to lose faith that all emails are being delivered.  With a couple of clientes, it has gotten to the point where I send invoices from my personal MSN account to assure delivery.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Yes, I have sent a couple of emails as a test to my email address on Homestead they haven’t arrived my inbox is completely empty, however they have been redirected to my non Homestead email address on my iPhone..

If I fill in contact form on my website the email comes straight to my non Homestead email address on my iPhone but nothing shows either way in homestead email account. Hope this makes sense I am also waiting for an answer as to why this happens.

Hello David,

Are you sending from Roundcube or an email program like Outlook?

The emails are being sent via Outlook 365

Ok please make sure that your Outlook settings match the settings provided in this article:

https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/how_do_i_setup_an_email_client_to_check_my_homestea...

I would even recommend deleting all settings and re-entering them to be sure

Since Outlook 365 is not listed as one of the clients should I use the generic settings or the settings for Outlook 2010 or 2013?

The listed clients just provide a walk-through to add the settings. If the one you are using isn't there, just use the settings from the main article. The information itself doesn't change between clients, just where you go to input it.

what about if we are using the outlook app on windows 2010 and or an iPhone.. we got new computers in November and I am constantly having issues with my emails using the outlook app and over the weekend my app on my iPhone wouldn't let me send out any emails and I was on wifi.

Elyzabeth...I checked my settings and they were correct.  They are the same as the generic  IMAP setting in the link you provided.

Kristin, the settings will still be the same.
David, I would recommend you test this from Roundcube. Can you send emails through Roundcube?

Yes, Roundcube seems to work fine when I use it, but that is rare.  The issue is sporadic and difficult to pinpoint.  It is most common with two of our vendors, specifically when sending attachments.  Also, every time I launch Outlook (hard start) I get a message asking me if I would like to install the server certificate for each of my homestead email accounts.  I've tried installing the certificate and it will come back with an installation successful but it continues to ask me to reinstall on every startup of Outlook 365

mine was doing that as well... you have to change the server ports to incoming 143 and outgoing 587 but make sure that the the encryptopn/ssl setting is off on both incoming and outgoing.. meaning make sure in the drop down screen you have it on NONE instead of how it defaults to SSL .. and on the outgoing choose my outgoing server requires authentication and select use same as my incoming mail server

So with this new Outlook update, they aren't allowing you to use secure settings?
I am glad you found a workaround that allows you to use the Outlook email, but I would recommend contacting them about that. You should be able to use secure settings.

Wow, I am tired, i'v tried everything, even Kristins settings, it still won't send in Outlook . I unchecked the box and put none, I have restarted my computer , nothing, still stuck, so is this an Outlook issue. If Kristin's works, is it still Outlook.

I'm confused.  If you turn encryption/SSL setting to off wouldn't the emails sent have a greater chance of being viewed as spam and exacerbate the problem of emails not being received?

Kristin...are you saying the setting you just shared has solved the problem of folks not getting your email or has it just stopped the pop-ups or both?

David, In the settings you can secure the email using xxxx.yourdomain.com or xxxx.homestead.com, however, currently, using xxxx.yourdomain.com may generate a certificate warning, so I advise you use homestead.com settings.

Also, are you still seeing bounces? If so, I would like to try something else.

Hi Drew,...they're not so much bounces as they are emails that never get delivered, and I can only confirm that it is happening with two of our vendors...but I don't have confidence in saying it's not happening to other emails.  To complicate it further some emails to these vendors go through without a problem but others like invoice/attachments never show up in their inbox or spam box....but it is not consistent because sometimes it works others not.  I've even tried tracking the emails with a delivery receipt and selectively they are not received.  So as to assure our invoices are being received I've had to send from my personal MSN email account, which is obviously not very professional.

To answer your questions I use xxx.homestead.com.  I use Outlook 365 as my email client.  Additionally, as you may have seen from the chat string I am getting server certificate pop-ups for each homestead account when I do a cold start of Outlook.

If I click yes to the pop-up it will go away until the next time I restart Outlook.  If I click "View Certificate" it gives me an option to load the certificate for either the user or local machine.  I've tried doing both and neither gets rid of the pop-up even though it says that it successfully installed the certificate.

Another bit of information to share is that I use a solution called Hubspot.  Hubspot tracks email opens and clicks within an email.  Hubspot has never caused an issue in the past but it does put a snippet of code into the email so as to confirm an email has been opened.

I can't speak about what that Hubspot code may do, but that Certificate message is what I would expect if your server settings were using your domain name in the incoming and/or outgoing server, instead of the homestead.com server settings.

Drew...after I changed the domain name to "homestead" the pop-ups have stopped.  Do you think that may have caused sporadic emails not being delivered?

  • 262,796 Points 100k badge 2x thumb
It is possible David. If you are trying to send securely, the recipient server may require that the certificate is verified. Currently, the cert can only be verified using .homestead.com in the server name. The recipient policy may discard unverifiable messages.

Let us know if you do hear of any messages not being received and who it was sent to. We can check the logs and see if the message was delivered to the recipient server.

I have a number of emails that bounce back.  Usually if not always to some government entity.  I need help because I face fines if these don't get delivered.

I'm having to send all my emails through my yahoo account to assure they get through.  I don't want to do this.  Can we not get Roundcube to work any better than this?  I really would like to be professional in my emails.

Hi Joel, The problem is not really Roundcube. If your issue is with government addresses, then they have made an update that requires that you have a pair of DNS records. One is a DKIM and one is DMARC. Unfortunately, our nameservers do not support the DKIM at this time. We are working on a solution for that issue. Right now, you can switch your nameservers to Cloudflare nameservers so that you are able to add these records. This will also give you the added benefit of getting an SSL secured website. This can help your search rankings as well.
Please make sure to follow the steps in that topic exactly. There is a point you may need to stop and wait for a few hours before completing the setup. After you have successfully completed that, you can read our topic for adding the DKIM and DMARC records. This should solve the issue with government-owned addresses.

I'm happy to help with any questions you have along the way, but unfortunately, since this procedure does require you to set up a 3rd party account with Cloudflare, I am not able to do this for you.

HI ,
When I downloaded both outlook and outlook.com. 365 , I did try and checked the box none, but now it's sending via eigbox? I even tried the roundcube email and it wouldn't even send an email. i did the ports above, still does not work. I've lost countless of time as well. Should i be calling outlook, even though the rep said roundcube is working it is not on my end. Thanks any helpful suggestions thanks! AT

KristinLyn, you are using the server settings with your domain name. If you want to use the secure settings you need to use imap.homestead.com and smtp.homestead.com.

Incoming port = 993, and Outgoing port = 465
Be sure to have the encryption/SSL option selected On for both.

If that does not work you can try to keep the encryption/SSL for both Off and change the Incoming port = 143 and Outgoing port = 465

This is happening to me too. Repeatedly to some emails but not all.  Very frustrating!  I use Outlook  (not 365).  I'm using the correct homestead settings.   This is the message I'm getting (removed my actual email below):

    host mx1.netsolmail.net [209.17.115.10]

SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<SRS0=5MB8Fh=R3=(email address)=lori@eigbox.net>:

553 5.3.0 66.96.189.4 Your message was rejected for possible spam/virus content. Please ask your email provider to visit http://emailadmin.registeredsite.com for resolution.

How do I correct that?

Hello,

With any Outlook errors that you are receiving, I recommend going through the Outlook settings, delete the settings currently in place, and copy and paste the settings from this article:

https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/how_do_i_setup_an_email_client_to_check_my_homestead_mail

If for any reason, the email is still not working, you can try to use the non-secure settings for email client set up.
You can also try restarting your computer.

Other than that, I would need to recommend that you use our webmail, Roundcube, until you are able to troubleshoot with Outlook regarding this issue.
