Hmail issues with POP/IMAP (Outlook)

For customers having time out issues connecting to Hmail in mail clients like Outlook, we have seen some success creating email boxes as an IMAP with SSL enabled. For this to work properly, you will need to make sure that you are using

Incoming mail server: mail.homesteadmail.com Port: 993
Outgoing mail server: smtp.homesteadmail.com Port: 587

All other settings will remain the same. We are continuing to investigate the issue and will update as new information becomes available.

Here is another configuration that has worked for some people.

IMAP
Incoming: mail.yourdomain.com (whatever your domain is)
Outgoing: smtp.yourdomain.com (whatever your domain is)
SSL OFF for both
Incoming port 143
Outgoing port 587

Thanks

ISP is your Internet Service Provider.

I imagine ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. If that is the case, my office gets it through owner of the office building we are located. I'm not sure who that is.

Here is a configuration that a customer was able to make work as well. This one is a POP.

I have been able to send and receive emails with the following setting in Outlook 2007.

Make sure to click the box This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) the Incoming Server Port (POP3) will change from110 to 995 make sure it has 995 in the box.

The outgoing server port (SMTP): 587 I left mine the same.

Thanks

Another note, my Outlook is again working but it is still morning. Like yesterday and days before that I fully expect it to go down again sometime today. Any progress on your part to get this fixed?

We made a change last night, and most people seem to be working fine now. There are still some and we are working on those as they come in.

Not! Works in the morning and goes out in the afternoon just like yesterday, the day before yesterday and that day before that and the day before that. I've had one day in the past week where I could actually use my Outlook. Come on guys, what is the story?

Are you saying you had to change the port numbers to make it work? Or the port numbers were now different than they were when you last changed them?

Drew,

Attempted the above and get the following error:

- Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

The fundamental question for me is what changed on your end as the email provider? It looks like a bunch of hodgepodge attempts instead of determining the ROOT CAUSE. Is the root cause being investigated as to what changed?

It is, the mail administrators are working on that end, and we in tech support and with the help of some great customers are finding ways to make it work for you now.

Thanks

This is nuts. I've been with Homestead for many years. Somebody must have monkeyed around with the settings at Homestead to cause this problem. This is especially damaging to small business people that depend on timely responses to email.

Hello,

I feel the issues as everyone else, I am a small business which needs this to work. I use my emial through different devices so POP is not an option. I need the IMAP to work, I have tried both of the fixes above no joy.

I am using Fios for ISP, I had them check routers and all ports but 80 were open.

If I disconnect from the Fios network and tether the PC via from my phone network everything works as before.

Strange does anyone have any other ideas ...

OK. So now Outlooks seems to be working both receiving and sending emails. NOT the same results with the iPhone 5. What do we need to do to correct that problem?

I agree with other comments that this is particularly troublesome and for small businesses a bigger problem then you might imagine!!

Verified the settings. Error message is with incoming POP server "not responding" - all the setting are as noted in the instructions. I re-added the account from scratch just to make sure.

It isn't just Outlook. Other mail clients were also affected, but it was not affecting everyone. Additionally, we have found that if your box failed on one computer, it might work with the same settings on a different computer.

To say I am not happy with Intuit is an understatement, first we had email issues for almost two weeks and now this what gives!!! You are seriously affecting our businesses. That doesnt seem to be a priority due to the length of time it is taking for you to fix these errors and the numbers of ones that are occuring.

It is absolutely the highest priority. Can you provide me with the following information?

Email address affected:
ISP:
Security Software used on the computer:
Operating System:
Email software(include version):
When the problem started:
Did you fix it:
If so, what settings worked:

Thanks

Changing the incoming server to SSL with the default port 995 worked, both for Outlook 2011 for Mac and for Mac Mail, but both yield a host name mismatch error (*.homestead.com; issuer: COMODO SSL CA) that needs to be accepted. Port 995 without SSL does not work. IMAP access on iPad/iPhone has not been affected, just popmail access for incoming messages. Why the sudden change? Why the mismatched host name on the SSL certificate? In the past, SSL didn't work for Homestead email accounts.

You received them in Outlook this morning? Are you clicking the use SSL when trying port 993? What was the port when you started?

Thanks

Yes, about 10AM central time. As of now I have tried to connect as stated above with no results. I did check the box to use SSL with both port 993 and 143 with error messages that the security certificate can't be verified...the certificate's CN name doesn't match passed value. My current settings are 110 and 587 with no check mark in SSL. I need my email up and running as I can't operate my business without my email communications. In that this problem started on the 2nd according to some of the posts I've read, this is unacceptable to not have the problem solved yet. Are you making any progress from your end or am I to expect to have to pay my IT tech to solve it on my side, if that's even possible?

I am angry as hell. My business is shut down because of this problem. I don't use Outlook. I use yahoo.mail and I'm not getting any emails from my customers through my intuit website. Right now I'm on hold with their technical support who has kept me on hold for several minutes. I'm waiting for someone to pick up so that I can address this important matter. Does anyone have any suggestions for yahoo mail users???

The email link on your contact page doesn't go to a yahoo email or to an email that is hosted with us. It goes to an email @section8home.com. Are you checking this email?

Thanks

I understand completely, and am sorry for the troubles. Domain.com has a great email service. Also, many customers use Google Apps for business.

If you want to move your email then you will setup the account at the new mail provider and create your email addresses. Then you will be provided with the MX records for your domain.

If your domain is hosted with us then you can edit those records in your Homestead account. If the domain is pointed to us, we will have to update the records for you.

When you change DNS records it can take up to 24 hours for propagation, so there will be some interruption of email, though it rarely takes anywhere near that time, it is a possibility.

Thanks

The mx records affect only where the email is directed. Your website would stay where it is.

I was able to send but not receive e-mails starting Friday until early Monday morning. I thought the problem may be my account settings so I tried to make changes with not success. I then thought maybe if I delete the account and set it back up again that may work. I now can't even set up an account on Outlook because the test e-mail that Outlook automatically sends will not go through. Any ideas?
