Our emails are still having the same ongoing challenge of going into spam, this is when contacting via internal emails within Homestead, or they are delayed by a few hours, or they are not receiving at all ??? I am having all sorts of problems with receiving emails too. I can send emails and they are received quickly. HOWEVER, receiving emails can take anything from 23 hours to average of 5 - 6 hours. This has been hapenning now for a few weeks

If you can get one of the email headers from one  of the messages that was significantly delayed before you received it we can look at it to see where the delay occurred and if it's something we can fix on our end.

Open up one of those emails from your inbox, and then if you are not familiar with how to get the header, follow this thread.

I realise that you may be under the hammer re these emails etc.
I feel for you mate as soon as you put out one bush-fire, it seems another starts.
(that's what we say in Australia anyway)

I'm seeing a huge amount of connection failure attempts to the mail server associated with the address 'admin@aussieviews.com' - mx.aussieviews.com - because this is the final destination of the mail map 'john@youhaveafriend.org.au'. From Jul 15 06:29:28 EDT to Jul 17 02:30:16 EDT there has been a total number of 289 failed attempts to the mail server "mx.aussieviews.com". As as result of this failure, these mails will be set aside for delivery at a later time. The first attempt usually takes within an hour and if it fails to connect to the mailserver again, it will be queued again. An example of a failed log:

Hi John,

What time did you receive this email?  At first glance it looks like there was a delay outside of our system.  Our server seems to have received it at 2:12 am.  I am searching the logs to see if I can find out more.

This problem has been going on since the changeover from the Zimbra platform.

Countless customers that I have been sending e-mails to without any problems for years no longer receive my e-mails as they are delivered to their spam folder.

Homesteads response was to suggest I contact my customers and tell them to look in their spam folder and adjust their settings.

No problem I'll just phone hundreds of my customers to let them know, or maybe send them an e-mail !

dave3844,  If you are still having an issue, we'd be happy to look into it. If you have an email that you know was not received by the recipient can you open the email from your sent folder and supply us with the header. Just copy and paste it here in a reply.

Many thanks for the reply Mike, your team looked into it for me just after the platform changed and it was deemed a problem with the recipients.

These are customers who have received e-mails from me for several years without any problems.

Immediately after the platform change the problems started. Many of my customers simply do not receive my e-mails as they end up in their spam folder.

I have had to resort to phoning many customers asking them to check their spam in order to retrieve my e-mails. I simply have too many customers to do this for everyone.

I have been with Homestead constantly since 2001 but I cannot run my business like this and will be looking for another provider when my subscription comes up for renewal.

dave3844,   If the emails are being received, except going into the spam folder, then you are correct. That would be something on the recipients end. Depending on the type of spam filter and email service they are using. It might be something that could be adjusted/whitelisted ad the individuals account level, or it might be something that needs to be changed at the server, or even ISP level.

BEFORE the change from Zimbra, my customers were receiving my e-mails for many years without any problems.

Clearly something is different with the new platform for e-mails to the same customers to now end up in their spam folders.

These are not a few isolated incidents. I have spent countless hours chasing up customers on the phone, to be told my e-mails ended up in their spam and therefore were not replied to (thus costing me money).

Hi Dave,

It is a completely different system than Zimbra, but that isn't the problem.  The new system is actually tougher on sending spam than the old, but for some reason your recipients servers are marking your messages as possible spam.  If it was confirmed spam, they would never even see it in their spam folder.  The server would simply trash it.

This is not a hugely widespread issue with all of our customers or we would be buried in calls in the support department, so it is likely that they are marking it based on your domain name.  Whatever their explanation is, it will have to be handled at the recipients end because we have no access to their systems.

If I am correct and this is related to the domain, then changing providers will likely do you no good.  If you can contact just one of your customers that this happens to and have them get more information as to why they have us marked, they might be able to fix it.  They will also be able to tell you if there is something specific that needs to be done on our end or not.

my e-mails are ending up in my customers spam folders. I know this as I've had to spend endless hours chasing up endless unanswered e-mails with phone calls.

Theses are customers that I have been e-mailing without any problems for many years.

My problems, and it seem the many problems identified by Homestead customers on this forum, started when the switch was made to the new system.

I've even sent e-mails between my own Homestead e-mail accounts and they have ended up in the spam folder.

The standard reply from Homestead seems to be that it's not a problem at their end. Don't you think it rather strange that all these problems started after the switch?

This suggest to me that the problem is at your end.

I understand what you are saying, but as I said earlier, if the message is ending up in your customers spam folder, then it has been successfully delivered.  The fact that it was marked as spam, means it was done so at the recipients end, or it would never have made it there at all.

The next step to resolving this is for them to check with their mail administrator to identify why the message goes to spam.  There might be settings the user can change.  There might be settings the admin can change.  They might come back with something we can do, but at this time, all we can see is that the message was delivered to the recipient server.  That is the end of our vision.

As for messages from a Homestead account to another Homestead account, if you can give us the source code from on of those messages(from within the recipient spam folder), then we can certainly take a look at that.

Tina8543,  I just got confirmation from our email admins that the problem is not on our end. The senders IP address is on several blacklists and getting blocked. You can view some of them here: http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a212.227.126.131&run=toolpage.

The sender will need to contact their ISP to get the IP address removed from the blacklists.

Tina8543,  Because it's the senders IP address being blocked, this has nothing to do with your Homestead email account and that it was converted to a new system.  Basically when an IP address gets blocked its due to too many people flagging their email as junk/spam.   In this scenario, it's the senders responsibility to work with their ISP to get their IP address cleared.

Tina8543,  If you are referring to the other posts on this thread, those people have different issues. What you are experiencing is different in that it's a 3rd party trying to email you and their IP address is blocked ( but not by Homestead). That is something that is completely out of our control and it's the responsibility of the sender to research and fix  their own email issues.

hi ok, but what about our own internal emails going to spam and even after continusouly clicking NOT SPAM they still periodically go to spam ??? This is within our own homestead emails ?? ie from laura@ to tina@ and vice versa ?? This has happened ever since you changed ? and stopped for a while when you did something but its starting again ?? :(

If you have one of those instances that went into your spam folder, let me know the time, date, sender, recipient, subject line and we look at it.

Or if you can open the message from the spam folder and get the header and past it here, that will work too.

Hi, its not fixed at all, its been happening all day today with multiple emails.. it cant be the content - as you have seen the emails they are standard emails - nothing unusual - please sort this out as it also happens regularly with our suppliers as well.  It doesnt matter how many times you click NOT SPAM it still happens :(

Tina8543,  I am having those email headers looked at right now. Can you verify that both you you (the Tina address and Laura address) are both using the OX webclient and not a 3rd party app like Outlook?

But how do you explain the emails going to spam between our own homestead accounts ??? We click that the email received into our spam folder is not spam and then it still goes to spam and therefore if it does this between our own homestead accounts then we have no chance with external emails ??


You must be able to fix this, as sending a standard email should not go to spam, especially when we have clicked not spam.....

this is exactly the same problem I am having, I also did the test between my own Homestead accounts with the same results.

I have customers who have been receiving mail from me for many years without a problem, now they either do not receive it or it goes to their spam folder.

This started happening immediately after the platform change, but apparently it's not the fault of the new system. Must just be a coincidence!

We have had this ongoing problem since the new system.  It is so frustrating that I have spent hours and hours trying to sort it out and calling suppliers and customers who have not received our emails or have gone to spam, likewise then we dont receive their emails........ It is becoming a very very serous issue now, as they dont seem able to even stop our own emails going to spam :( Very very unhappy

Exactly the same for me Tina, I am also having to send duplicate e-mails from my icloud account or phone my customers to chase up the Homestead e-mails that are not being delivered.

I've been with Homestead for about 13 years but I can't continue to run my business like this.

Hi Dave and Tina,

We are looking into it.  You are both correct, if it is between 2 Homestead accounts, we should be able to track it down, but we will need the source from one of those emails.  If both of you could please send an message from 1 Homestead to another.  Log into the recipient account and locate the message in the spam filter, then copy/paste the source here. 

I have confirmed that the one to your client is not blocked by our spam filter, so I am submitting it to the mail administrator for tracking.

Hi Tina, I did confirm that the mail admins have the email for within the domain, but can you clarify this,  "It doesnt matter how many times you click NOT SPAM it still happens"  In the OX web client, there is no option to mark as not spam.

"OX" is the abbreviation for Open-Xchange which is the email platform Homestead uses.  When ever there's an email problem we first want to make sure you are using the Homestead/OX system to rule out any problems with 3rd party email client. Click the link below and you'll see there are three methods of accessing the OX system.

and yes it is OX system we use.... the NOT SPAM button, can only be pressed, when you are in the SPAM FOLDER and you highlight an email that has come into spam.

Hi Tina,

We see the issue.  The not spam show up only when you are in the spam folder, AND only when messages are delivered there.  We dragged some messages in to the spam folder and it does not appear when we try to fake it.  Our test accounts have never had spam delivered as mail is rarely delivered to them, so you are just fine.  We are still looking into the issue.

thank you, I look forward to your reply, as whatever it is that is causing it with our own accounts will most likely be what ever is causing it with all our poor suppliers who keep getting our emails into spam :(

I have my emails automatically forwarded from Homestead to Yahoo.  Not infrequently, Yahoo receives the emails many hours before they show up on Homestead.  Usually I need to close Homestead and re-log-in to receive the new mails.  This happened tonight.  I knew there was an email at Yahoo that I hadn't received so I tried everything at Homestead - the refresh button, etc.  The email did not show up until I closed the program and re-opened it.  The lag time was 4 hours.  When I Ping my computer to Google, I get 12-16ms.  When I Ping to Homestead I get 36-40ms.  The slow speed is frustrating and constantly obvious, but even that doesn't account for a 4 hour email delay.

Hi Jane, If you are using the webmail/OX system, it will time out, and you will constantly have to log back in for it to refresh and download new emails.  If you like to keep your email open all the time, you may want to set up an email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird and set it up with the IMAP configuration so that it will automatically download emails as they arrive.

Some of my emails take 23 hours to reach me? The majority take 4 -6 hours though. I cannot understand why we have to go through so much effort to now get our emails. Initially Mike wrote to me asking me to send headers etc. Surely, there is a problem there that they cannot see. So frustrating as I don't believe we are getting adequate support. I have been foillowing other client's frustrations.... just not good enough.

Our server seems to have received that at 8:09am and dumped directly into your mailbox.  It does show as sent at 00:51.  The delay appears to be prior to getting to our system.  There is no way I can identify why.  If you see more mail delayed, please let us know and post the header again so we can look.

This looks like a delay prior to reaching our servers.  The orange arrows are when our system received the message and delivered to your inbox at exactly the same time.  The blue arrows are prior to our server getting the message. 

This appears to be on the sender's server side.

My phone comes through my computer and I have an online voicemail system which flashes a light on a device on my desk when I have a message and sends an email telling me that I have a message.  Sometimes, as today, the light on my device is flashing but the email does not show up.  Today the email showed up an hour after the email was sent.  Info below:

Unfortunately we can not troubleshoot any 3rd party applications or services running on your phone so I don't know why. From what you are describing, it sounds like the delay was with the other service.

Come on guys. It is time that you accepted that you have a major problem on your side. How come so many people have had so many problems. It is time to stop adding "blue and yellow" arrows to try and baffle the people. Read what I have sent you before with regards that the problem is at your side. I have many different email addresses in my buisness. Going throuh the same server. Not one has the problem that you guys are presenting.

Maybe it is time that others considered joining me at looking at legal options as you have caused me some considerable problems in the delay I am getting through your service.

Hi Tina8543,  Our email admins already noticed those emails were no longer appearing in the spam folder.  They are working on this. Unfortunatly since they disappeared there are no headers accessible.  If you see any other emails that go into spam, can you both email me a screenshot and the headers?

Hi Tina, wow what patience you have. I have been asking (as well as others) why my emails are taking up to 23 hours in some cases to reach me. The average time to reach me is 5 - 6 hours. None of my other emails are doing this, only Homestead. But I keep getting messages from Homestead to send in  headers etc. Then I am told it is nothing to do with Homestead. (Sounds familiar). This has cost my buisness money and I will be surprised if Homestead leaves this message up for all to see. I have written to them and just get told "not my fault"!!!

Tina8543,   Regarding the emails between Tina and Laura, our email admins have been working on this and have gone into the system and sent emails between the two with all emails going into the inbox and not the spam folder.  They have been unable to replicate this.  If/when this happens again. please immediately post the header from the email here or email it to us so we can have another instance of this to research.

Hi , I have already sent you 4 instances with headers for you to investigate as to why even internal emails between your own homestead emails go into spam, even after clicking NOT SPAM, you havent even answered this yet, so how can you answer why a lot of HOMESTEAD emails end up in other emails servers spam folders, other than trying to say its not Homestead - it obviously is Homestead and has been ever since you changed your systems over - please get to the bottom of this and also to the bottom of why other servers are blocking and delaying HOMESTEAD emails - I am totally and utterly bored of talking about the same problem over and over again - just get someone in who knows how to fix your problems asap please

Hi Tina8543,

As stated, we are investigating the reason why your internal mail goes to spam.  More examples are always helpful, if you care to post them.

As for external mail servers, we can also look at those, but if the message goes to the recipients spam folder, that absolutely means that we delivered the message and their server flagged it as spam.  In this case, the receiving server would need to explain why they are flagging your message as spam and then there might be some action we can take.

These are 2 different problems, as internal and external emails are handled very differently.

Hi again Tina8543,

The mail admins made a small adjustment and tested your laura to tina email and it was delivered to the inbox, not the spam filter.  If you see it go into spam again, please post the source from that new message.  I am sorry we keep asking for this, but we are working to track down why your account is having this issue.
