How do I create a filter and have emails forwarded to my Gmail account?
I cannot find this option anywhere. This new email service seems antiquated and poorly designed. We are also not receiving emails in a timely manner, and emails we send are taking longer than usual to be sent.

Please help.

Thanks,

Beau

Beau6449,

The current system does not have an actual filtering feature, but you can auto-forward by using the steps above.

Under Zimbra, I automatically forwarded some emails. Now I need to change that, but I find nothing that allows me to do this. How can I undo automatic forwarding?

I followed your instructions several times and the e-mails for our business are still not being forwarded.

Including re-typing the forwarding address several times.

It usually takes about 1/2 hour for the change to take effect. Let us know if it's still not working.

The emails are now forwarding to my gmail account.

Can anyone explain why my emails that sere in my inbox and sent folder from open exchange are all gone but did not forward to gmail?

Also, when using the gmail account to reply, the emails are showing my gmail account but I want the open exchange domain to appear. Can this be done?

The old emails sent and received have now appeared back into open exchange, so this issue is resolved.

How do I get the forwarded emails to not save in the open exchange? The whole point of this is to delete because the inbox can only handle a pathetic 500mb. Wow 2014 and only 500mb for a paid email?

You'll have to manually delete them, or if you use another email client, you can configure it with POP settings which pulls the emails off the server and stores them on the computer. If you have a lot of emails to save then this may be an option, but it does limit your ability to check emails from other devices and locations if the emails are downloaded off the server.

If you also check your email from a cell phone or other computers and devices, you'll want to use the IMAP settings instead, but then keep a closer eye on the quota.

There are actually two different sent folders. Depending on how you are checking your email, you will want to log into www.homestead.com and use the Webmail link at the top of the page and log directly into the email account. Notice the inbox can be expanded and more folders will be revealed. This is where you'll find the sent folder with any emails that were migrated from the old system.

Also, if you did indeed delete all old sent emails, then go back and check the trash/deleted items folder again. It may still need to be emptied.

No, what you just explained me to do is what I do every morning to check my emails. I set up the forwarding address and all my sent mails were migrated/deleted. I have since removed the forwarding address. Where did my emails go?

Forwarding emails will not remove or delete anything from the OX system. Did you set up a POP or IMAP account in another email client? POP accounts will remove messages from the server. If you have an IMAP account it is possible to delete emails and entire folders from the server.

Using the steps above you can enter more than one email address separated by a coma and a space. Keep in mind, if you add more than just a few auto-forward addresses, your emails may start to get blocked/flagged as spam as this is a technique used by some spammers. I don't recommend forwarding to more than 2 or 3 for this reason.

E-Mail forwarding option doesn't work for one of my accounts..

Hi,

I have two email addresses through homestead. One is the standard "info" email address while the other one is my personal "name & surname" address.
I have set up forwarding from my info email address to my gmail account and this works fine.
Now, I have also set up forwarding from my personal email and for some reason these emails are not being forwarded to my gmail account.

I have followed the same procedure for both email addresses, by going into "advanced options" and entering the email in the forwarding section.

I was hoping that you could explain why the forwarding from my second email doesn't work. I have deleted and re-entered this number of times, still no luck.

Thanks for your help.

Is there anyone from Homestead that could address my question above????????
I really need the forwarding to work, I am at a point where it's critical for me to have all emails forwarded directly. It's not logical that forwarding works from one email address and it doesn't from another.
Thanks

Good morning Niko0614,

In the box described above, you can add multiple email addresses.  Just separate them with a comma and no space.  Keep in mind that forwarding greatly increases the possibility of the message being trapped by spam filters, so only forward if absolutely necessary.

Thanks

Hi janmaclean2436,

You can do so by following the steps at the top of this thread.  Enter an email address followed by a comma and then another email address, no spaces.

Keep in mine that forwarding email is falling out of favor among email amins, so every forward increases your chance of being marked as spam.  You may forward email as specified, but we don't recommend it.

Thanks

All,

It looks like my website lost the capability to forward one email to the entire board of directors for our organization -- a list of 10 people.  I saw on this thread that the limit is now 3 email addresses.  That's simply not enough -- what do we do?

Thanks.

Hi Kimberly4053,

What is happening?  There is no hard limit that I am aware of.  The 2-3 is a strong recommendation.  Mail administrators have to have their systems deal with incredible volumes of email, mostly spam.  Many are beginning to consider forwarding email a form of spam.  There may be a reason why all the mails aren't forwarding, and we might be able to come up with a solution that will work for you.

Thanks

Drew,

Previously on this thread the recommendation was to enter 3 addresses, comma-delimited, in the one field that says Forward To.  It would be very difficult for anyone to administer such a list once it was entered.

I understand the point about spam, but our board of directors are all volunteers and have no interest in having to check yet another email account -- I think forwarding is the only option, but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Kimberly4053,  I can't really think of a good alternative. Forwarding emails has multiple complications that will likely cause problems.  One idea is to use, or create an email box in which you share the password with those who need it.  Then as members change you can periodically change the password. Everyone can log in using the web client at email.homestead.com

How do I access the e-mail message filter functionality?.

I want to be able to create an e-mail rule which forwards an incoming message to another e-mail address and then deletes it.  The online help (Section 8.2.5.4) describes functionality which is exactly what I want, but the mail client doesn't allow me to get there.  I can click on Configuration, then E-Mail, but there's no "Filter" sub-folder under E-Mail.

I have set up auto-forwarding from the main site, but I need the ability to delete forwarded messages after they've been sent, because I do not check this mailbox, and otherwise my mailbox will fill up (as has just happened).

Mike, I know how to set up an auto-forward, as I think I made clear.  What I want to do is set up a rule which will delete the message once forwarded.  The online help describes exactly this filtering feature in Section 8.2.5.4.

If I understand the content of this thread (specifically your response to Beau6449 5 months ago),  filtering isn't implemented in the product.  Is this correct?  If so, why is it explicitly documented in the online help?

Sorry that is not possible unless perhaps you use a 3rd party email client such as MS Outlook.

Thanks, Mike.  That's very disappointing.

So the help text, in its exhaustive description of how to create and configure rule-based filtering, is just wrong?    It rather sounds like the feature exists but is turned off, for some reason.  But what do I know?

There is indeed some functionality that we currently don't have access to. There's a good chance that there will be an update released that will hopefully unlock some of these features.

Can I get confirmation that you only forward the email and check via the OX webmail?  You don't use any program like Outlook to check email?

Thanks

You can add the OX mail as an account on your phone.  That is actually a preferred method to forwarding.  You can see the instructions for setting up various email clients.

This thread shows how to set up an auto-forward, but, keep in mind. This should only be used sparingly and generally to just one address. Most email providers and ISPs are frowning on the use of auto-forwards because they have become a way to distribute spam. If you attempt to auto-forward to multiple addresses, it's likely the recipients may have problems getting them, and your email account may become blacklisted by various spam filters.
