We have a paid subscription to Duda Mobile, which was referred to us by Homestead, and after many months of dealing with Duda's inadequate admin tool, I'm frustrated.

I was told by Duda Support to sync my mobile with my desktop page, which I did. I followed their instructions and each time I go into the Duda Admin, items on my mobile page are messed up. Buttons and images are in the wrong places, and I have a hard time moving them. Then when I try to make changes I get an error message "oops...something went wrong".

I contacted Duda Support AGAIN about my issues and this was their response: Unfortunately, syncing issues such as this or the "Oops something went wrong" error message (which requires the "sync now" method to resolve it) can happen at any time, but we are unable to determine when it may occur nor the cause as this occurrence varies from website to website. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause for you with making edits to your mobile site.

I have tried contacting their Help Desk numerous times and no one seems to be able to help (not to mention that all communication is via email and I am unable to actually speak to someone on the phone)...I am told that I just have to live with this system and I refuse to do that. This is MY mobile website and MY business's reputation and because of Duda Mobile's inadequacy my website looks like crap! Is anyone else having these issues?

I don't have any issues with Duda. The mobile site does look different but that's the way it is.

@themieleman, I'm glad you're not experiencing issues. It's frustrating. Anyone else experiencing Duda Mobile issues?

I have heard issues syncing sites with Homestead sites, and moving elements that you do not wish. My personal recommendation is to sync the site once so it gathers the overall design of the site, then turn off the sync for the pages. That way you can make sure all changes on the mobile site stay and don't get lost or cause issues when it auto-syncs.

@William, thanks for your reply. I've tried that...syncing it then turning it off but I still get the "oops" message I stated earlier. I've even tried clearing cache on browsers and logging back in. No luck. So I'm completely stuck. And Duda Mobile Support is no help. They just tell me that this may occur and there's nothing they can do. I don't understand how they cannot help me at all!

When do you get the oops error? Does it happen only with a certain element?

William, it happens when I try to move an image on my Shop page, or when I try to update the icon on a button (the icon on the button was correct until the 'sync' occurred), or when I try to delete a button that magically appeared on my site after the sync. So even though I have the sync turned off now I cannot make certain changes to my site at all without getting the Oops error.

Those sound like general errors. In order to troubleshoot this further, we would need to get into your Dudamobile account. I would not be able to do this via the community, but our phone support can take a look at this for you at 1-800-710-1998.

I had many issues with a Duda Mobile site I built for a client. Basically the same things Renee is experiencing plus some. After much back and forth with Duda this is the answer they gave:

Unfortunately syncing is a feature of our platform that can create persistent issues like this, and turning off auto-sync is not straightforward. We've recommended some system changes to our development team to address this, but unfortunately they have not yet been implemented.

To properly turn off auto-sync for a page, it is necessary to first uncheck the auto-sync button, and then re-sync the page by pressing "sync page". If this is not done, and on rare occasions even if this is done, the content on the page will not properly solidify, and so even with auto-sync turned off it will not be able to save the position of elements on the site.

To fix this, I'm sorry to say there are only two courses of action I can recommend in our system:

  1. go to each page, make sure that auto-sync is turned off, then re-sync the page (while keeping auto-sync off), then proceed to make your edits. This will usually cause the site's content to stop behaving erratically
  2. to be absolutely sure a dudamobile site will not sync, I recommend recreating the site from one of our site from scratch templates here:

www.dudamobile.com/templates-2

As these templates are not made from an initial desktop site, there is no way that they can sync, and so are not subject to the same problems as our normal sites.

In other words, their auto-sync is unreliable and even turning it off doesn't work. What I ended up doing was scrapping the original site that I had set up with auto-sync and building the site completely over using one of the blank templates.  A pain in that I have to make changes on two sites, but I was having to anyway using the auto-sync method.

@susan2829, thank you VERY MUCH for your reply...finally someone who has had the same issues.

I cannot believe basically the only course of action is to rebuild the site!?! What a waste of time! We are a small company and I just don't have that kind of time to devote to rebuilding a site that should have worked well in the first place. How frustrating! But thank you for your reply...unfortunately I think I'm going to look for another mobile solution since Duda is unreliable.

This is new technology. What do you expect?

It definitely was a time waster for me as I was doing this for a client and didn't feel I could charge them for the re-do. ACK

I think Duda has a way to go to make their builder reliable and I think that someplace there should be info about the issues so people don't waste time/money with a less than ideal builder.

Good luck to you - would be interested in what direction you end up taking.

Themieleman I, like 99% of the population would expect it to work as advertised whether it's new technology (which it isn't, mobile design has been around for some time) or not. Unless you're Microsoft you don't put a product out there that only works for some of the people, some of the time.

Thanks Susan2829! I agree! And I'm surprised that more Homestead users haven't written about it in this forum. There have to be more folks out there who have had these issues!

We use UltraCart for our shopping cart and they just came out with a website solution which includes mobile and tablet (which by the way, our website on a tablet looks like the desktop site...it's not optimized for tablet which was a surprise to me. I thought Duda optimized for tablet too).

So I think I may try UltraCart out once our slow season is here (which is January). That way our mobile website and shopping cart provides a seamless experience for the customers. I don't want to risk having even more issues during our busy season. We already look like idiots with this sub-par mobile platform. :( Thanks again!

So I just checked another one of my pages on Duda Mobile (which is our Find Us page). It USED TO have links to all the merchants we work with and now each link goes to some random page on our site (it's not even a page I created with Duda's site). I have over 130 links on that page and spent a long time inserting them all. What a joke!

Duda has the mobile only version and also a version that allows you to build a responsive site that will respond to whatever device you are viewing on; mobile, tablet or desktop.  You essentially design three sites at once with the builder. It isn't compatible with Homestead though and you end up having to transfer the domain to a compatible provider like Go Daddy, etc.

Are we having fun yet?

Thanks! Yes, we use the Duda Mobile only version since (at the beginning) it was supposed to be a seamless transition and since this was Homestead's solution to mobile.

Have you used SquareSpace at all?

I just spent over an hour trying to fix issues on my Find Us page only to find out some of the issues reverted back to the way they were! I unchecked Sync, etc. I've had it. I'm definitely going to another solution as soon as I can. And I need a drink... ;-)

Pour two!
What I discovered with Duda Mobile was that their Auto-Sync just doesn't work period. I posted the response I got about it at the top of this thread - even they admit it doesn't work.
No experience with SquareSpace.

@shipping - I can't remember your site address could you post it again please? and as I recall your desktop site was well done so is the tutorial you are asking for in regard to the mobile rather than the desktop version?

This whole thing came about as we were to be "penalized" by Google, thus far I can't tell that I have been. Hits are trending up as they always have. Experiments with different computers and phones produce good results. For now I am going to let it be.

Susan, yes this would be to make my site mobile friendly or add some mobile friendly pages to my site and have a redirect to them. Or add some tools to the Site Builder that enable actions for mobile viewers. I just think that if Homestead is out for web design they should not pull in Duda for thir dirty work because its not working

I can only guess at what Homestead's reasoning was to take Duda on as a partner for the mobile. I believe they were trying to offer a mobile answer and chose not to or didn't have the resources to incorporate that into SB such as other site builders have done. The concept wasn't bad, but unfortunately they just didn't do enough research into how Duda's program would react with SiteBuilder sites.

What issues are you having with Duda?

The main issue is that I have to practically create a new website - I do not have the resources to maintain another website - I know there is some carryover from the SB pages but I have made several attempts to set up a couple pages but get frustrated far before I get to where I want to be. And if the sync is supposed to be turned off that's an absolute NO. My website changes and if the changes cannot sync over I do not want to have it. I think the simplest (but not most desirable) thing to do would be to create a couple pages on my site that are mobile friendly and are viewed by mobile devices instead of the main pages. But as Homestead is married to Duda they refuse to provide any assistance in making their own sites mobile friendly - so go figure.
