Suddenly, my domain www.traftonbuilders.com redirects to a generic homestead.com page. My domain is hosted at register.com along with my email. This has been configured this way for 8 years and suddenly does not work correctly.  My A-Record is set to: 108.167.135.213 which seems correct. Is Homestead having a technical issue with pointing today? Thank You

You report indicates a transfer prohibited status. You may need to go to register.com and update your domain name servers.

How to point your domain name to your Homestead website?

If you already have a domain or just register a new domain at a registrar instead of Homestead, you can keep your existing domain registration and point your domain directly to your Homestead website by updating your DNS (domain name servers).

You can log in your domain account from domain control panel to change DNS setting if you can, otherwise you need to contact your registrar to update your domain settings.

Please follow the two steps below in order to complete the pointing of your domain name.

Step 1: Update your domain name servers to the following:

NS1.MDNSSERVICE.COM
NS2.MDNSSERVICE.COM
NS3.MDNSSERVICE.COM

Step 2: Configure domain pointing in your online Homestead account:

1. Log in to your website account.
2. Click the ‘domains & email’ link in the left-hand menu.
3. Click the ‘domains’ link.
4. Click the ‘Point an Existing Domain’ link.
5. Click the dropdown menu under "Which website would you like this domain to point to?" to select the site you want the domain to open.
6. Enter the domain name you are pointing and click the ‘Verify’ button.
7. Complete Task 1 and click the ‘I Have Added Nameservers’ button.

Once you have clicked the ‘I Have Added Nameservers’ button, Homestead will automatically complete the pointing process. This typically takes 1-3 business days, depending on the speed of your domain registrar.

Correct me if I’m wrong. If I change just the name servers, my email at register.com will stop working. I just want to point the domain NOT the email. I need to know what to change the A -Record to.

Thank you for that page. I could not find it by searching the community. Maybe it needs to be a sticky.

I worked for homestead from 2009 to 2010. It’s been a few years since Ive had to mess with this stuff.

I found it using google. I don't use these procedures unless I change my site. I only have one site to attend to.

At register, set the A record for host @ to 216.40.47.17, then delete the A record for www and for * if they exist. Create a CNAME for www and * and set them both to websites074.homestead.com. After some propagation time, it should start working again.

You're welcome. I still see a mix of records, so it must still need to propagate a bit longer.

It looks like it is still pointing to generic homestead.com.

Who.is still shows an A record for www, using the IP 108.167.135.120. If that is still in your records, remove it. If not, it may still be propagating. If you go to http://traftonbuilders.com, you should see the site, but the A record www is overriding the CNAME www.
