I would like to transfer my website to a different provider. I’ve been told I’m paying too much with Homestead. Do I own my domain name? And if not, can I purchase it?

You own it. You can use it with any Website service provider. Homestead has the best rates for domain registration. Website hosting rates? Depends on the product. Homestead may be worth it. The lowest price may not be the best deal.

Thank you for your reply. Could you shed light on why I’m paying $25 a month whereas other hosts charge a fraction of that? I don’t need much, I’m a small business without much internet traffic. It’s seems like an outstanding price to me.

I don't have access to your account details. There are different plans. You can review your account summary for details.

Hello Karlylotkowski1046

This is just a matter of which plan you chose when you signed up. You can choose to downgrade to a lower package. It looks like, with your account as is, I could get the price to $13.99/month. If you were to go through your File Manager and delete some files (about 5MB worth), I could get the price down to $11.99/month.
Do you want me to make that change on your account?

Thank you for your response. I have friends/fellow website owners, who are telling me they pay $25 annually. Even though $12 a month sounds much better and more enticing, it doesn’t even come close to what they’re paying. Do you know why this is? I plan
On calling the number provided tomorrow but any insight is welcome.

I cannot say for sure, but $25 annually could be a price given to entice new customers. That would change after the first year. Homesteads price does not change. I also cannot say what that $25 gets them/what is included. At the end of the day, you could look at other companies who are offering a lower initial price, but I would hate for you to move your website to another company only to find that they don't offer support, don't include basic features, or change the price after a certain amount of time, which is what I have seen happen to many customers.

Hi Karly:

I have registered many website domains with other than Homestead and found out that they use "Frames" which is a method of masking the website URL,(website name) and because of the coding your web site is not listed on most search engines. Plus if you are in need of a SSL  Certificate Homestead can supply an SSL Certificate if you are building your website with the new websitebuilder. That is a lot of value.
