I have two related websites and would like to be able to copy a web page created on one site and add it to the 2nd site. They're on the same account. Can't find info on how to do this... help?
Thanks!

Hello,

Unfortunately the copying of a single page is not functioning at this time. If you really want to do this, you will need to copy the entire site, and then delete that which you do not need, or manually rebuild the page on the destination site.

If you want to move the whole site, go to the help center and search for move site.

Thanks

Drew

Thanks for the quick response! But, darn. Is this something you're working on addressing, for future reference? Or is this just not a supported feature?

Thanks again.

I understand, and I will switch your question to an idea. Anyone else that would like to see this feature can hit the plus 1 button and make their voices heard.

If I wanted to copy a page I would have a file for all the same graphicks and photos, then I would copy and paste one paragraph at a time and set it up the same way. But Google frowns on duplicate information or pages. This will hurt your rank of at least one page of the website or even the website. You can't even title the pages the same or duplicate description of pages.

It would seem to me more efficient to NOT have a MOVE SITE function, but rather have a MOVE PAGE function.  That way anyone can do both or either, but right now on can only do MOVE SITE.

OR...... somehow be able to open a second SiteBuilder and copy items across from one to the other.   Would that work?  I tried to open a second SiteBuilder but it would not let me do that.  If someone knows how, let me know.

You can open 2 Sitebuilders, but only in 2 different browsers. You won't be able to copy/paste. Currently, you can copy the entire site and remove the unwanted parts. You have been added to the group that would like to see this.

How do you copy the entire site?

Select the desired site from websites manager drop down and then use this link, https://www.homestead.com/~site/SiteMover/

Select Move a site.

Thanks but it didn't work..  Should I be using the non-homestead domain name or the homestead domain name as the URL I copy from?  I made a site and a friend wants to use a cut-down version of the site for themselves.  Will "moving" my site delete any files from the original?

It should work via selecting the target site and then selecting the source site. Not a big deal. If you tell me the source site and the target site, I'll get it moved for you.

I just want to be sure the source site is not impacted at all.  The source site is http://bodyhealthyself.homestead.com or http://bodyhealthyself.org on go daddy and the target site is http://terrybridie.homestead.com

Thank you SO much Drew.  Also, If you can let me know how to do it myself in the future, I want to offer my clients a cut down version of my own website.  I'm a distributor for a new technology and my clients want their own sites to promote themselves locally.  I need it to be a replica site with just a little customization for each one since I'm providing it for free if they become my customer.

I understand. The link I gave you is the only way you would be able to do it. If it doesn't work for some reason, we will have to do it.

I tried replicating another site so as not to interfere with what your doing.  It worked fine.  Should I copy this bodyhealthyself.org site or are you already doing it?  Also, for future reference, which URL should I use for the source?

Sometimes when copying the site doesn't come over complete. I am not sure why. I think the only thing not right is a couple of elements on the Master page. You will have to manually add the logo back to the Master and everything should be good, but you will want to give the whole site a once over.

We used to be able to do that using the Site Building on a PC....we would go into the hard drive folder for a given website, create a copy, change the name, and copy and paste that file into the folder of the 2nd website and then open it there. It was really simple. I am extremely unhappy if we cannot do this now, particularly as I was convinced to switch off my PC site builder and start using the online site builder. Has there been any solution since this question was first posted a month ago?

Hi folks, There is a site mover tool that allows you to copy the whole site(One page at a time is not functioning currently) to another website, then you can delete the unwanted pages and files from the target site. You can access this tool from the help center, by searching for Move/Copy a site.

Thanks

Drew

This is called Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work.[ Google looks at it this way even if your not stealing and just copying your page word for word.

I haven't had an update - so I recreated a few highly custom pages on two websites. Not great.

Can you copy all pages to an existing site without impacting the pages that already exist there? Or does this only work if you copy the entire site to a new one that doesn't already have content?

It will affect any file that has a duplicated file name, such as your homepage, index.html, or maybe if you have an image on both sites called logo.jpg.

If there are no duplicates, this will not be a problem. Keep in mind, this included the template files in the sub folder of your site.

Thanks

Here is a slightly different question. Does the MOVE SITE function delete site from initial location? Or does it actually copy the site to the new location and leave site also in initial location?

The site mover tool has both options. Normally we advise that you copy it, then verify the new site, and if desired delete the old site.

Thanks, Drew.  I used the site mover tool and I'm a bit baffled.  It has two options:  MOVE A SINGLE PAGE or MOVE AN ENTIRE SITE.  Neither worked for me.  Also there is contradictory text.  It says, Enter web address of page you want to move. Then below it says, Note: copying one page between sites int not currently possible. Can you help clarify?

Yes, currently the move a page does not work. You will need to use the entire site option. Then you will get the radio buttons that allow you to move the site or copy the site.

I tried the option to move the entire site and nothing happened. Another time it just kept processing.  Do you know a ballpark of how long it should take?  10 minutes, an hour, a few hours? Thanks.

It depends on how big the site is. What site are you trying to move, and what site are you attempting to move it to?

I want to copy www.DwightOkita.com to WebsitesbyDwight.homestead.com.
If this doesn't work, I guess I'll just rebuild the pages.  (Do you know if there's a way to copy an individual element from one homestead site to another.  Like an image scroller element?)

I see files on the target website. There is no good way to copy.an element from site to site. Can we delete the files on the target site. I can try to move the site for you.

One website will not be found in the index any more.
It is subject to sanctions like penalties, suspension, and even expulsion
I would think Pointing another domain name to the existing website would be a better option.

Drew, thanks for offering to help.  I went and deleted the files on the target site.  And this time the Copy Site function basically seemed to work.  Thanks.  Is it true that Intuit no longer owns Homestead?

Haven't seen a response to your question about Intuit ownership.
If I recall correctly, Intuit left well over a year ago.
I remember seeing posts about another company buying or partnering with Homestead.

I guess we missed that question. Sorry all. Yes Intuit sold Homestead in September of 2013, so almost 2 years ago.

Prior to my previous post, I did a search to see about the ability in Homestead to copy one of MY website pages from one site (domain) to another. This is how I stumbled onto this thread.

I see this was question was posed by lisag4832 2 years ago. Drew N made it an "Idea" (whatever that means) in Homestead 2 years ago.

Can someone from Homestead provide an update on this?
Based on some of the 2 year old comments, this doesn't appear to be a "new" feature. I noted Drew saying, "copying of a single page is not functioning at this time." in multiple responses, which to me suggests the ability is there, but not working correctly.

What does making it an "Idea" mean and do? Once again, I must highlight, this was TWO years ago, which is an IT eternity! ;-)

Thanks and looking forward to Homestead's feedback.

We can copy an entire site with all pages and files, but not an individual page. An idea is something for our developers to consider adding depending upon a number of factors. Unfortunately, as a result of the sale by Intuit, we had many obligations to move the massive amount of data off of Intuit's systems. This took all of the developers time for over a year. There are still things being done, but we are starting to get some developer time again now, so over time, we will hopefully get some things done.
