Hello,

I would like to start a new website and clone an existing website which it would be very similar to, and then modify the pages.  I am using the desktop version of SiteBuilder.  How can this be done?

Thank you,
Robert

Hello robert8238

Unfortunately this would not be possible. We are no longer creating any new sites on Sitebuilder software. You can definitely create a new site on your account, and rebuild the site similar to the one you have created, but it would be in our Website Builder program.

Here are the instructions to create a new site: https://community.homestead.com/homestead/topics/how-do-i-create-a-new-site

Can I clone a site using the Website Builder program, instead of doing the whole entire thing from scratch?

No, you cannot clone Website Builder sites, you will have to rebuild any new sites.

I asked this question 8 years ago and I got the proper answer.
Can I clone a website? [Incident: 100512-001002]

However this incident has been removed from your database.
Can you please kindly look into this incident from the past, or ask someone who may have the knowledge on how to do this?

I know this can be done, as I have done it twice already in the past.

I do not want to spend 30 hours redoing something that will just take minutes.

Please do not reply with a quick NO answer.

I hope you will actually kindly look into this.

Thank you very much.

Hello robert8238

I am sorry  for the inconvenience. Back then, telling you we can clone a website was the proper answer, but that was 8 years ago. We were using the Sitebuilder program for new websites and were able to make duplicates of them.
Now, we can't. We stopped using that builder for new sites almost 2 years ago. All new sites are created in Website Builder, which is an entirely new program, not just a new version. Sitebuilder and Website Builder are not compatible and we cannot clone or duplicate a website within it. The site will need to be rebuilt. If this is something you don't want to do, or don't have the time do to, I can have someone from our design department contact you, if you wanted to look into their services.
I apologize that this isn't the answer you want, but I wasn't just giving you a "quick no". It is the correct answer.

Hi! This what I will have to do...copy/paste page by page with Website Builder. But there is so many differences from Desktop version, and in my case it will take me 2 month... Is there some "user manual" for Website Builder? So it will go faster? Starter Tour is no help at all. For example: where is the Title for the page?

Hello,

There isn't one big guide I can give to you, but there are Youtube tutorials, there are a lot of posts on Community to help with the builder if you search for what you need, and if you think of a question that hasn't been asked and answered, please ask and I will be happy to help you.

I think any website development system that does not allow you to reproduce a website is critically deficient, and is a very good reason for a potential customer to look for another product.

I urge you to forward these remarks to your website developers and request that they look into adding this capability, and also to restore the capability in the desktop version for people who need to use legacy websites, instead of having your comments here be the last words.

Thank you

I will certainly forward on the idea about being able to duplicate sites.

I will let you know on the second part, we are only moving forward away from the desktop version. There will be no point in the future where that is brought back or used to create new sites. Eventually, (not any time soon, but at some point in the future) that program will no longer be available at all because it is too old and outdated, which is why we recommend everyone upgrade to the other options we provide.

well, I do like a lot that new Builder. I don't know, why I didn't notice that before...but it definitely look cool, modern, much more options and easy to use. It just difficult to find where is what. It look different.
