I am trying to change the design and pages completely. How do I do this without affecting the current live page?

I don't think you can just do that because of the templates. The page content would be lost.  It will be easier for you to try out the new templates by "add a website" from the log in page and see which one you like.  Then cut & paste the info from your older site (use a separate window for this) and if you are happy with the new site, then all you have to do is re-point/associate your domain name with the NEW template.

To do this, you would need to add a new site on your account and build from scratch. You currently do not have any sites available, but I can add additional sites onto your billing for $2/month ($24/year for your billing)
Once that is added, you can Add a New Website from the Websites Manager tab and choose the design.

I also wanted my new site to look like the original on on SiteBuilder so I just selected a template that had the header set up in a similar way and then just changed the master colors and started each page with a "Blank" template page and built within the sections to get the look I want.  Its actually a lot easier to get continuity between my pages in this new platform.  It's worth the effort.
