Can't charge int'l postage on websitebuilder. It took me six weeks to set up this new site. Paypal used to charge the shipping cost based on where the product was going, but that doesn't work with websitebuilder. So now I'm giving my products away to my int'l customers (or rather, giving my money collected to USPS).

Hello,

You can set up shippo within the Websitebuilder store in order to automatically calculate and apply international shipping. https://www.sitebuilder.com/help/article/integrated-shipping

Sorry, I can't make that link work. I tried signing up for the site, that also didn't work for some reason. I did sign up with Shippo though, it was the only way I could get the shipping fee to come up on the checkout page, but I don't know how to tell them to include international shipping. With the websitebuilder template, I have to input the shipping cost. There is no place for me to include international shipping, so I only put up domestic. So for the int'l orders I've received so far, they only charge domestic shipping.

No worries, the first step is to connect shippo in your store. Did you try signing up directly from the store manager? It will allow you to create an account and print out international shipping labels. Go to settings, advanced and set up integrated shipping with shippo.

This isn't what Shippo is telling me. They say they have nothing to do with taking payments or charging shipping in the checkout page, they only take the order once it has been accepted. The problem is that my store on my website will only allow me to input one shipping rate (domestic), I need to be able to charge int'l as well. With my old website, Paypal did my checkout, and I was able to have both rates. Can I dump shippo and just use paypal at my checkout page?

Thanks for staying with me on this. Don't know why this is hard. I already have an account with Shippo, maybe I missed a step setting it up? I had already set up the "Integrated Shipping" option for the store and I also chose the option in my store in websitebuilder to set my own postage rates, since I am familiar with how much it costs to ship each product (but since I could only choose one, I went with the domestic rate). Should I have chosen flat rate instead? Would that help?

Here is what the Shippo person told me today. What am I missing?

Judy Taylor: I can't seem to figure out how to charge international shipping. I have a website on homestead.com, and an account with you

(07:08:49 PM) Rodrigo: Hi Judy
(07:08:53 PM) Rodrigo: Thanks for reaching out
(07:09:13 PM) Rodrigo: Happy to clarify here. Shippo is a shipping solution that provides real-time shipping rates from multiple carriers within our web app. Any available shipping rate may be selected to fulfill an order. However, Shippo is not a shopping cart. Shippo does not pass along shipping rates to display for buyers during the checkout process through our e-commerce store integrations.
(07:09:24 PM) Rodrigo: Each store platform has a unique way of setting rates for the shopping cart within each platform’s settings. Our customers are typically able to establish accurate customer-facing shipping rates for their shopping carts by determining the average rates across their typical package sizes, weights, and recipient addresses.
(07:09:41 PM) Rodrigo: After the order is placed and shipping selected in the shopping cart, the order will import to Shippo’s Orders Page. You can compare your customer’s selected rate with the rates available for purchase in Shippo and select the best rate option for your needs.

I was finally able to look better into this, with our simple store it is going based of the shipping rate set for each product. Unfortunately, our simple store does not allow more advanced shipping options, you may need to look into a ecommerce platform that allows you to set up different shipping zones and automatically calculates the shipping charge at check out. However, what you can do is create an international products category that has the same products with different shipping rates set in place. Or you can place a disclaimer on the site that states any international orders are subject to additional shipping charges.

Thanks for the suggestions. Does Homestead offer an upgrade to the ecommerce platform, or do I have to look elsewhere?

No problem, unfortunately, Homestead does not offer any other eCommerce upgrade. You can look into Big Commerce, it is commonly used and I know it will allow you to set up shipping zones like you need to.
