Hi. My domain is registered with Homestead, but my website and email currently reside with another host.

I am going to be switching my website to yet another host (Wild Apricot), but I'd like to keep my domain registered with Homestead and start using Homestead email (Roundcube) as my email server. (Wild Apricot doesn't have email hosting.)

I wanted to set up the email DNS records to point to Homestead email, but I get an error message "Advanced DNS editing unavailable."  It says I have to switch my nameserver records to point to Homestead. I can do that temporarily, but ultimately they have to point to my new site on Wild Apricot.

Can I do this? If so, should I temporarily point the Nameservers to Homestead, change the DNS records for email, and then change the Nameservers to Wild Apricot? I don't want to change this if it isn't going to work.

Hello,

The way I would recommend setting this up is having the name servers point to Homestead. This will automatically add Homesteads mx or email records and allow the usage of Roundcube. You will also want to request the A records from the website host, Wild Apricot, to point to the site using DNS. If you can get the A records, I can help make sure everything is connected properly.

Hi Michelle,

I set things up as recommended by Wild Apricot, using the Homestead Nameservers. They recommend the following:

CNAME record for www points to sites.wildapricot.org

CNAME record for default._domainkey.breakthroughfitness.com points to dkim.wildapricot.org
(This would not accept default._domainkey, so I used *)

"A" record for breakthroughfitness.com points to 34.226.77.200

"A" record for @ points to 34.226.77.200

TXT record needs to include "include:wildapricot.org"

Some of the IP addresses for the existing "A" records did not match what was in a previous post, "DNS Records for Homestead Email", but I left those alone, as they did not appear to be from my prior email host (webmail.emailsrvr.com).

I don't know which "A" records I still need and which are extraneous. I will be using POP/SMTP but I'd like to keep my options open.

Can you check what I did and see if it's OK? Many thanks!!

Linda

This looks great. The a record is pointing to Wild Apricot and is pulling up the site. All the mx/email records are present to use Roundcube email. It looks fine and is set up correctly, you are good to go.

Thank you, Michelle. I haven't tried emailing from the Wild Apricot site yet, but everything else seems to be working. If I experience any problems, I'll let you know. Thanks so much for your prompt attention!
