Note: This article applies only to new Websitebuilder sites.

Homestead Websitebuilder is designed to use only 1 domain. It is possible to use more than 1 domain by following some specific steps.

1) Register or point the primary domain name to the desired site. Please confirm the primary domain is active and working before adding additional domains.

2) In order to add more domains, you must first add a new site. To do so, go to Websites manager and select Add a new site.

Name the new site something unique. The system will alert you if it is already in use.

Do not choose a design when you are returned to the Websites manager page.

3) Now you need support help. Please post your new site name here. I'll need to run a conversion for you to allow the pointing work.

4) Click on the domains tab. You may point or register the additional domains to the new site. After the additional domains have been successfully pointed or registered, you will still need to make some changes. For each domain you will need to go to the domains tab and click on Advanced DNS settings.

5) Click edit and in the A records section click the remove checkbox for the 2 indicated records. In the CNAME section, add the 2 indicated records and then hit Submit.

6) Once the DNS is updated, there is one more step. Change the www subdomain to point to the primary domain name.

7) Click on the domains tab and then click on the edit link to the right of the www subdomain.

8) Click  on the radio button to the left of "Other URL" then enter the primary domain name. Finally click save and allow 30 minutes for the domain to begin working.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Two domains one site association.

I have two domains and I would like them to point to the same website. I have one domain associated with the site right now, but the system keeps saying that I can't point the other domain to the same site. Is there a work around? I don't want to have to rebuild the whole thing all over again nor do I want to have to update two separate sites. One is a .com and the other is a .net. Please help!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled How do I associate 2 domains to the same site?.

I have 2 domains and wish to point them both to our new websitebuilder site.  When I attempt to change the association, I receive the message "Domain can not be associated to the selected site.  The selected site already has a domain associated to it. WebsiteBuilder supports only 1 domain association for a site at a time. Please disassociate the existing domain and try again."

Before I created my new site with websitebuilder, both of my domains were pointed to the same sitebuilder built URL.  How can I get around this problem please?

I am still unable to point my 2nd domain (coconinocasaforkids.com) to my websitebuilder site - ccfork.  Everything looks to be in place correctly but the results are not what we need.  Help please?

Tammy0908, It should be working for you shortly. Both domains were associated to the same site. You may not do that on the new Websitebuilder sites.

I am completely lost here.  I tried to follow the directions above, but at that last step, I no longer had the subdomain option.  I basically want to point all my other domains to one like I had previously.  So... e.g. I want my domain www.lawruiz.net to point to www.Ruizlaw.net.  Please help!

David2598, On Websitebuilder sites, only 1 domain can be associated to the site, but other domains can be redirected to the first domain. If you have a Sitebuilder site, you can associate the second domain to that site and then do the redirect as shown in this topic. If not, then I need to convert a site for you.

I am trying to associate a domain to a site i have built and it's telling me that the site is already associated, i'll need to disassociate it as they only support 1 domain at a time ?????

Norman2065, use site association to move the current domain to a different site(create a new one if desired). Move the domain you consider the primary to the desired site and confirm it works. If you make a new site, I need to convert it for you. If you place the extra domain(s) on Sitebuilder sites, you can do everything yourself.

Hey eric8676

It doesn't look like you currently have the domain smokedfoodtruckcompany.com on your Homestead account. You would need to purchase that first. If you do, just follow the instructions on this post to add a new site and post the site name here. We will make it so you can point the domain.

I'm having the same issue... Created a new site mcgrawlawfirm.homesteadcloud.com... I want to delete the old site that mcgrawlawplc.com uses & have it use this instead. Also our other domain mcgrawlawfirmplc.com should use the new layout of the new homesteadcloud.com. BUT I want the homesteadcloud part dropped from the website name.

You can only have one domain pointed to a Website Builder site, so you will need to point the 2nd domain to the URL of the first domain. Use the 7th and 8th step in these instructions to point mcgrawlawfirmplc.com to mcgrawlawplc.com.

Homestead might want to consider removing the referral to Duda especially since the new Website Builder creates responsive sites. When I was trying to create the mobile site for my old Homestead account Duda's tech support said I didn't need Homestead & to cancel.

We have the Website Gold Plus Package and have 4 domain names on our account - 1 primary name with its own web site and 3 other domains that all need to point to a separate web site.

The primary domain name works fine, all pages are accessible at www.primarydomain.com.

However, our other 3 domain names are only accessible as subdomains of homesteadcloud.com, e.g. "secondarydomain.homesteadcloud.com".

It would seem from this article that either:

A) There is additional backend configuration Homestead needs to do which would require us to post our domain names / information on this public community board which seems inappropriate

-or-

B) Perhaps an upgrade of our account type is required. It is unclear to me why we were upsold to a Gold plan so that we could have multiple secondary domains but we cannot actually use these other than as subdomains on "homsteadcloud.com".

Please clarify.

Subdomains are not multiple domains pointed to the same site. Subdomains are subdivisions of one domain name, for example www,domain.com,  blog.domain.com, or store.domain.com.

You are wanting multiple domains to be associated to one website, which cannot happen on the new builder.
It is possible to keep one domain connected to this website, and point your other domains to that domain name. If you would like to do this, let me know which domain you want to have as the primary domain, that the other two domains will point to. I will need to add an additional domain holding site on your account and do domain pointing for those.

Colleen,

Thanks, but not quite. I've been doing IT 25 years, I understand what subdomains are and are not. Let me try to explain and simplify.

We have a primary domain (domain1.com) and a site attached to it. It works. I can access all pages on the site simply by going to domain1.com/mypage in a browser.

We have a second domain (domain2.com and it's variants domain2.net and domain.org). We have built a separate site for these domains but cannot access the related pages by going to domain2.com/mypage. Instead we have to go to domain2.homesteadcloud.com/mypage - hence my comment that these are behaving like subdomains of your homsteadcloud.com domain which is not what we want. We want to have this domain behave as our primary domain does. We specifically upgraded to the Gold package on the assumption that supporting multiple domains means we can use them like we are using the primary domain. Is this not the case?

Finally, please clarify -- if a configuration change is needed on your end, is it truly the case that we as a customers MUST post actual domain information about our account on this public community forum? That seems, at best, inappropriate. Is there no means of directly communicating with technical support without having to disclose our account information on a public form?

Thank you.

You can only have one domain connected to a Website Builder site, so having three domains on one site will cause issues. That is why I would need to make the change on my end to add a site for domain pointing. That will fix the site association error. The reason you can only go to the .homesteadcloud.com site name is because that is the name of the site if you don't have any domains on it. Having more than one domain causes an error that doesn't allow the domains to associate to the site, so it acts like it doesn't have a domain on it.
