We are emailing people we have had no problem emailing before and now we are told they don't receive our emails and we have gotten "permanent errors" bounce back emails. This is the 3rd time we've had this with homestead. We have even canceled the service with homestead for some time and recently sign on again after being told the servers were up a running great. We run a business and this is unacceptable. We have even gotten emails bounced back saying  it has been 4 hours since the email was sent but was never delivered.

Hi melissa0829,  Thank you for including the header of the email. The header shows an error code of "554 Denied".  This is a general error code that indicates the recipient server is rejecting your email due to content/spam.   Since it's the recipient rejecting the email we don't know the reason but it's usually due to some content in the email. Usually it is a website address, and email address, or just some spammy text/content that is getting you blocked.

If you post the email header as text, instead of an image file, I can run it through our filter and see if any of the content is spammy on our end.

I have included the header as text below. We have had no trouble with emailing them until now, there is no reason we should be on there rejected list. They have tried adding us to their "whitelist" and it still did not work. Also, we received ANOTHER "Warning" message saying our email has been delayed for 8 hours now (to a different recipient)(text also below).

melissa0829,

Thanks for the header/bounce message.  This message indicates that you are still being blocked by the recipient. The reason it shows the "delayed 4 hours, delayed 8 hours" is that our server keeps attempting delivery.

I'll forward this to our email admins but from what it sounds like it's probably a setting on the recipients email server blocking the emails.

Mike

last time this happened with homestead as our provided you guy had someone hack into the system and blacklist so many of your customers. Has this happened again?

We have emailed these people NUMEROUS times before and have not had this problem. I believe the problem is on homesteads end and NOT our recipients. Especially since it is bouncing back from 3 different people.

I'm not sure of what your understanding is, but we never had anyone hack into our system.  We did however have numerous customers who's personal email accounts where hacked due to not having complicated enough passwords and then using their accounts to spam.  The new email system now has a feature in place that stops the ability to send any outgoing emails if it reaches a certain limit and then also scrambles the passwords in the event that this happens preventing the spammer from fraudulently using the account.

This was not the explanation we received. As a result of whatever happened we were told new servers were put in place to combat this issue. Regardless of what happened then, the issue needs to be fixed now. Again, people are not receiving emails we are sending. Even if it is just a response to an email they sent to us, therefore, us being "blacklisted" makes no sense. Even if we were, them putting us on their "whitelist" should have remedied the problem which it did not. What is the issue? and can you fix it? If not, we'll have to switch email providers yet AGAIN.
Photo of Mike F.

Mike F., Alum

  • 184,678 Points 100k badge 2x thumb
The current issue is completely unrelated to the old issue. You are correct with regard to new email servers.  Your email is now hosted on a completely separate platform (new servers and different software).   The old system was completely abandoned and shut down.

If your recipients are "white-listing" you and still not receiving your emails, then most likely it is a global/server setting that is blocking you.  This is why we ask for the email header and/or bounce messages. In a case like this the header and bounce messages usually tell us where and why the block occurred in case our email admins need to contact another company. Because the block is not on our end in this particular case, I can not tell you how long it will take for the other company to unblock the emails, but we are aggressively working on it.

I see there there are other homestead customers with this similar problem that they have had since last week. Hard to believe it is not a homestead problem. Especially since its the same problems we had before with homestead. I appreciate you working on it but please consider other possible ways that the issue could be with homestead.

melissa0829,  I just got notification back from our email admins and they confirmed that this delivery issue is on the recipients end. They probably have your email, or an ip address blocked that is preventing your emails from going through. the email recipient will need to work with their email administrator, (or isp) to resolve this.

This makes no sense. Why all of a sudden more than one client of ours is not receiving our emails. If it were just one, id understand your solution, but it is a few and another one was just added today. This is the link we erected on the last rejected email we sent from yet a NEW recipient. This is on homesteads end. Who can I call to speak to? http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml?66.96.184.7

Thanks for posting that link. I've forwarded it to our admins and we'll try to get this resolved as soon as we can. There is no need to call our support number as this has already been escalated above them.

Thanks

Mike, I am having the same problem with emails sent to Brighthouse email addresses (*****@cfl.rr.com).  My emails to others are not a problem.  Just recently anytime I send an email from the homestead email, to a cfl.rr.com address it is not delivered or delayed.  I am pasting the bounceback message below:

com
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
    host cdptpa-pub-iedge-vip.email.rr.com [107.14.166.70]:
452 Too many recipients received this hour. Please see our rate limit policy at  http://postmaster.rr.com/spam#ratelimit .

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

These are businesses I have corresponded with for years using homestead mail and now am having problems only with cfl.rr.com addresses.

Hi Richard4542,

This is Roadrunner's policy it seems.  If you read the link in the bounce message, they are saying you have sent too many emails.  The message should be delivered in time.

Drew

Drew,
The number of emails being sent to the Roadrunner address is not the problem.  One email is hardly "too many". In the last two weeks I have sent emails to four different Roadrunner addresses and each has bounced back.  The bounceback messages vary. Some say there is a delay and others mention the quantity of emails via the link you saw in the previous  post. Below is another bounceback message:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 8 hours on the queue on bosmailout02.eigbox.net.

The message identifier is:     1X4xEi-0002BN-3I
The date of the message is:    Wed, 9 Jul 2014 14:08:59 -0500 (EST)
The subject of the message is: Re: Auto Insurance Quote For Gwenyth Lam

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

  glamour@cfl.rr.com
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
    host cdptpa-pub-iedge-vip.email.rr.com [107.14.166.70]:
    421 4.7.1 - Connection refused - <66.96.185.2> -  Too many concurrent connections ( <2> ) from source IP

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

Below is another error message which shows the link to Roadrunner's limit policy. As I say, sending one email would hardly exceed anyone's limit policy.

Hi Richard,

We just noticed that this message was dated July 8th.  At the time a small number of users did have an issue with this.  The issue should have been resolved.  Can you try again and see if it continues?

Hi Richard4542,

I just want to clarify what Drew is asking for above. Rather than an actual copy of the email we need what is known as the source, or the "header" of the email. You'll want to open your sent folder and get the header from the email that was not received by the recipient. Follow this link for instructions, and then paste the header in your next reply.

How can I find an email header?

I am sending a test email to both of you.  The reason is the delivery failure
notifications I received in connection to emails sent to your cfl.rr.com

clear up the problems.

Hi Dave,

I received it and texted an acknowledgment.  Let me know if you receive this
email.  I'm still having trouble sending to a cfl.rr.com email address.  No
problem receiving from them though.

Hi Richard,

Can you generate a new one today.  That message is also nearly 3 weeks old and during the time that we would have expected a deferment.

I have already confirmed that the message is not blocked by us.  I am going to have the mail admins track the message to see what became of it.

I just received a reply from the test email I sent a few minutes ago.  Perhaps your email team have corrected the problem.

Perhaps, but I will let them look and respond.  We will update this topic when they do so.

Thanks

Hi Richard4542,  I just wanted to follow up again. Our email admins did confirm that this should be fixed. However the last header they researched was a basic "test" message and those are often identified as spam and may not be delivered. If you see any other legitimate/business emails that give you problems let us know.

The "test" email is the one that received the quick reply while the other emails in question were delayed.  Since the email team addressed my issue, I have had other emails to a YAHOO address delayed.  They at least went through, but not in a timely manner as they were delayed a few hours.  The reply to me from the YAHOO addressee was delayed as well and seemed to be repeated a number of times as four copies were in my inbox and all showed the same time stamp.

Richard4542,  The delays on incoming email and duplicate emails has been resolved.  However the delay when sending to Yahoo is an issue on Yahoo's end.  They appear to be blocking first attempts, but our server will continue to attempt deliver.  The emails will generally get through but sometimes with significant delay.

The delays to Roadrunner addresses seems to have resurfaced.  I sent an email to a Roadrunner address along with an additional addressee yesterday.  The other addressee received the email and responded within an hour of the message being sent, but the Roadrunner addressee hasn't received the email as is evidenced by the message I received just minutes ago.

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 8 hours on the queue on bosmailout05.eigbox.net.

The message identifier is:     1XFT85-0001yq-US
The date of the message is:    Thu, 7 Aug 2014 14:13:34 -0500 (EST)
The subject of the message is: Re: Mortgage Loan Application

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

  davemurray@cfl.rr.com
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
    host cdptpa-pub-iedge-vip.email.rr.com [107.14.166.70]:
452 Too many recipients received this hour. Please see our rate limit policy at  http://postmaster.rr.com/spam#ratelimit .

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

The problem seemed to have been resolved but now appears to have returned.

I will add that though the message mentions rate limits as the reason for the delay, there was only one email sent to this addressee and was not part of an email blast.  Instead the email was a straightforward business letter.

Please find a fix for this issue.  Many of my clients and business associates have Roadrunner addresses and this is really becoming a problem.

Ok, I have added this to the ticket for the mail admins.  They continue to work with Roadrunner to find a solution.

Hi Richard4542,   I believe they are still working on this. I'll try to get an update though.

Mike
I started having this issue yesterday and now can't get anything to send or receive. It is the weekend and no one is here to help me. I am a business, losing business by not have email. Looks I will look to another provider- as it seems to be a long running problem with no fix! Very Frustrated!

Hi elisabethsusanna19759588,

There are no issues with the servers at this time.  Can you tell me how you send/receive email?  Outlook or webmail?  If you can copy/paste the email source here, we can analyze it to see why it is being bounced. If you use webmail check here for instructions

Thanks

Drew

Having problems with getting Yahoo.com mail AGAIN!  Yesterday and today we are having trouble getting emails from Yahoo.com and sending emails with Yahoo.com  This seems to be an ongoing issue.  Is there a fix with this?  I'm not sure if other emails are all going through but I know Yahoo.com is the biggest problem. Please advise.

The best way for us to research this is to get the email header from the Yahoo sent folder.  If you can get the header from one of the messages please paste it here and we'll take a look at it.

This is the email source code that was sent to a yahoo email address.  We have tested other Yahoo mail accounts and some are going through, this one address is not.  Hotmail email is working correctly.

Above you stated

"having trouble getting emails from Yahoo.com and sending emails with Yahoo.com"

We'll need the header from the email you were trying to send from Yahoo which you'll have to open from the sent folder in the yahoo account.

This is beyond ridiculous at this point.  Why can't HomesteadMail messages be received by my clients and associates with @cfl.rr.com email addresses?  It seems the bounceback notices always reference rate limits.  I am sending ONE message, not hundreds.  Has my HomesteadMail account been hacked? Do I need to change the password?  PLEASE find a solution to this problem.  I've used HomesteadMail for over 4 years and this problem has just cropped up in the last couple of months.
Below is the "Show Source" info for the message sent on the 18th which generated the error message shown above:

Hi Richard4542,  Our email admins continue to work with Roadrunner on this.  But the bounce message you received does confirmed that Roadrunner is "rate limiting".

" Too many recipients received this hour. Please see our rate limit policy at  http://postmaster.rr.com/spam#ratelimit .:
    retry timeout exceeded"

Unfortunately we do not have a way of forcing RR, to adjust or change their limits but our admins are working on this. Mike

It seems something fundamental changed either with HomesteadMail or with RR in the last 2 or 3 months which is causing this to happen.  I was able to send messages to RR recipients for four years without a problem and suddenly this issue crops up.  Could the fact that there were .PDF files attached with these emails be part of the problem?

Richard4542,  No it's very unlikely that those pdfs or any other attachments would be the cause. It appears that they are rate limiting the overall volume of emails received by their server.

For what it's worth, this error/delay message was just delivered for an email sent to a Yahoo addressee earlier this morning:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 4 hours on the queue on bosmailout04.eigbox.net.

The message identifier is:     1XK7yl-00064a-Ft
The date of the message is:    Wed, 20 Aug 2014 10:39:07 -0500 (EST)
The subject of the message is: Re: 12555 Canela Ct Orlando FL 32837

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

  phantang2000@yahoo.com
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<SRS0=GW_ddR=5O=messina-insurance.com=...> SIZE=68742:
    host mta5.am0.yahoodns.net [98.136.216.26]: 421 4.7.0 [TS01] Messages from 66.96.188.4 temporarily deferred due to user complaints - 4.16.55.1; see http://postmaster.yahoo.com/421-ts01.html

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

What concerns me is the phrase "Messages from 66.96.188.4 temporarily deferred due to user complaints".  Is this aimed at me personally, HomesteadMail's servers, or is it just a stock category used by Yahoo?

I just read the message on the link provided by Yahoo and it references rate limits as well.  It also mentions objectionable material and/or complaints from Yahoo users in connection with the sending server.  I'm certainly not sending objectionable material, so my guess there is an issue with rate limits from HomesteadMail servers.  These issues seemed to crop up at about the same time as the RoadRunner problem.

Hi Richard4542,   That message is not directed to you personally. That is an email server IP address.   Our email admins have been working with Yahoo for several weeks now. I've been informed that there are several things occurring at Yahoo in an effort to mitigate spam.  The rate limiting is a method by which they can set limits on their servers to only receive a certain number of emails in a given time frame from certain IP addresses.  Also the message you posted above is simply our message to you to let you know we are still trying to deliver the email. Yahoo has been rejecting all first attempts, so our server keeps trying to deliver.  I'm not sure of their reasoning behind this except that most spammers send out a single blast to a large list of recipients and then do not try again to redeliver the failed emails. This is apparently one method they are using to defend against spam. Most of the emails that go to Yahoo eventually get delivered but unfortunately because of this they are often significantly delayed.

Our admins continue to work on this with Yahoo but can't guarantee any ETA since these blocks/rate limiting are on Yahoo's system.

Mike
