We are emailing people we have had no problem emailing before and now we are told they don't receive our emails and we have gotten "permanent errors" bounce back emails. This is the 3rd time we've had this with homestead. We have even canceled the service with homestead for some time and recently sign on again after being told the servers were up a running great. We run a business and this is unacceptable. We have even gotten emails bounced back saying  it has been 4 hours since the email was sent but was never delivered.

Hi melissa0829,  Thank you for including the header of the email. The header shows an error code of "554 Denied".  This is a general error code that indicates the recipient server is rejecting your email due to content/spam.   Since it's the recipient rejecting the email we don't know the reason but it's usually due to some content in the email. Usually it is a website address, and email address, or just some spammy text/content that is getting you blocked.

If you post the email header as text, instead of an image file, I can run it through our filter and see if any of the content is spammy on our end.

I just received a reply from the test email I sent a few minutes ago.  Perhaps your email team have corrected the problem.

Perhaps, but I will let them look and respond.  We will update this topic when they do so.

Thanks

Hi Richard4542,  I just wanted to follow up again. Our email admins did confirm that this should be fixed. However the last header they researched was a basic "test" message and those are often identified as spam and may not be delivered. If you see any other legitimate/business emails that give you problems let us know.

The "test" email is the one that received the quick reply while the other emails in question were delayed.  Since the email team addressed my issue, I have had other emails to a YAHOO address delayed.  They at least went through, but not in a timely manner as they were delayed a few hours.  The reply to me from the YAHOO addressee was delayed as well and seemed to be repeated a number of times as four copies were in my inbox and all showed the same time stamp.

Richard4542,  The delays on incoming email and duplicate emails has been resolved.  However the delay when sending to Yahoo is an issue on Yahoo's end.  They appear to be blocking first attempts, but our server will continue to attempt deliver.  The emails will generally get through but sometimes with significant delay.

The delays to Roadrunner addresses seems to have resurfaced.  I sent an email to a Roadrunner address along with an additional addressee yesterday.  The other addressee received the email and responded within an hour of the message being sent, but the Roadrunner addressee hasn't received the email as is evidenced by the message I received just minutes ago.

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 8 hours on the queue on bosmailout05.eigbox.net.

The message identifier is:     1XFT85-0001yq-US
The date of the message is:    Thu, 7 Aug 2014 14:13:34 -0500 (EST)
The subject of the message is: Re: Mortgage Loan Application

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

  davemurray@cfl.rr.com
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
    host cdptpa-pub-iedge-vip.email.rr.com [107.14.166.70]:
452 Too many recipients received this hour. Please see our rate limit policy at  http://postmaster.rr.com/spam#ratelimit .

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

The problem seemed to have been resolved but now appears to have returned.

I will add that though the message mentions rate limits as the reason for the delay, there was only one email sent to this addressee and was not part of an email blast.  Instead the email was a straightforward business letter.

Mike
I started having this issue yesterday and now can't get anything to send or receive. It is the weekend and no one is here to help me. I am a business, losing business by not have email. Looks I will look to another provider- as it seems to be a long running problem with no fix! Very Frustrated!

Hi elisabethsusanna19759588,

There are no issues with the servers at this time.  Can you tell me how you send/receive email?  Outlook or webmail?  If you can copy/paste the email source here, we can analyze it to see why it is being bounced. If you use webmail check here for instructions

Thanks

Having problems with getting Yahoo.com mail AGAIN!  Yesterday and today we are having trouble getting emails from Yahoo.com and sending emails with Yahoo.com  This seems to be an ongoing issue.  Is there a fix with this?  I'm not sure if other emails are all going through but I know Yahoo.com is the biggest problem. Please advise.

The best way for us to research this is to get the email header from the Yahoo sent folder.  If you can get the header from one of the messages please paste it here and we'll take a look at it.

This is the email source code that was sent to a yahoo email address.  We have tested other Yahoo mail accounts and some are going through, this one address is not.  Hotmail email is working correctly.

Above you stated

"having trouble getting emails from Yahoo.com and sending emails with Yahoo.com"

We'll need the header from the email you were trying to send from Yahoo which you'll have to open from the sent folder in the yahoo account.

This is beyond ridiculous at this point.  Why can't HomesteadMail messages be received by my clients and associates with @cfl.rr.com email addresses?  It seems the bounceback notices always reference rate limits.  I am sending ONE message, not hundreds.  Has my HomesteadMail account been hacked? Do I need to change the password?  PLEASE find a solution to this problem.  I've used HomesteadMail for over 4 years and this problem has just cropped up in the last couple of months.
Below is the "Show Source" info for the message sent on the 18th which generated the error message shown above:

Hello Paul,

Thanks for forwarding the inspection report.  The original quotes with wind
mitigation inspections are accurate.  I am attaching copies of the actual value
and replacement cost for contents quotes again with this email.  I will forward
the information to Mr. Bresnahan as well.

Sincerely,

Charles Harrison

Hi Richard4542,  Our email admins continue to work with Roadrunner on this.  But the bounce message you received does confirmed that Roadrunner is "rate limiting".

" Too many recipients received this hour. Please see our rate limit policy at  http://postmaster.rr.com/spam#ratelimit .:
    retry timeout exceeded"

Unfortunately we do not have a way of forcing RR, to adjust or change their limits but our admins are working on this. Mike

It seems something fundamental changed either with HomesteadMail or with RR in the last 2 or 3 months which is causing this to happen.  I was able to send messages to RR recipients for four years without a problem and suddenly this issue crops up.  Could the fact that there were .PDF files attached with these emails be part of the problem?

Richard4542,  No it's very unlikely that those pdfs or any other attachments would be the cause. It appears that they are rate limiting the overall volume of emails received by their server.

For what it's worth, this error/delay message was just delivered for an email sent to a Yahoo addressee earlier this morning:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 4 hours on the queue on bosmailout04.eigbox.net.

The message identifier is:     1XK7yl-00064a-Ft
The date of the message is:    Wed, 20 Aug 2014 10:39:07 -0500 (EST)
The subject of the message is: Re: 12555 Canela Ct Orlando FL 32837

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

  phantang2000@yahoo.com
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<SRS0=GW_ddR=5O=messina-insurance.com=...> SIZE=68742:
    host mta5.am0.yahoodns.net [98.136.216.26]: 421 4.7.0 [TS01] Messages from 66.96.188.4 temporarily deferred due to user complaints - 4.16.55.1; see http://postmaster.yahoo.com/421-ts01.html

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

What concerns me is the phrase "Messages from 66.96.188.4 temporarily deferred due to user complaints".  Is this aimed at me personally, HomesteadMail's servers, or is it just a stock category used by Yahoo?

I just read the message on the link provided by Yahoo and it references rate limits as well.  It also mentions objectionable material and/or complaints from Yahoo users in connection with the sending server.  I'm certainly not sending objectionable material, so my guess there is an issue with rate limits from HomesteadMail servers.  These issues seemed to crop up at about the same time as the RoadRunner problem.

Hi Richard4542,   That message is not directed to you personally. That is an email server IP address.   Our email admins have been working with Yahoo for several weeks now. I've been informed that there are several things occurring at Yahoo in an effort to mitigate spam.  The rate limiting is a method by which they can set limits on their servers to only receive a certain number of emails in a given time frame from certain IP addresses.  Also the message you posted above is simply our message to you to let you know we are still trying to deliver the email. Yahoo has been rejecting all first attempts, so our server keeps trying to deliver.  I'm not sure of their reasoning behind this except that most spammers send out a single blast to a large list of recipients and then do not try again to redeliver the failed emails. This is apparently one method they are using to defend against spam. Most of the emails that go to Yahoo eventually get delivered but unfortunately because of this they are often significantly delayed.

Our admins continue to work on this with Yahoo but can't guarantee any ETA since these blocks/rate limiting are on Yahoo's system.

Mike
