Does anyone know why Bigcommerce automatically converted Shipment Tracking link from actual Shipper's website to AfterShip? It is awful and always behind (USPS). Is this now the link that goes out to Customers in their Shipping Notice - a link to 'AfterShip' and not the Shipper where they can make specific arrangements with the Carrier for delivery?

Hello. So the change was made because Bigcommerce only had connection to about 5 carries. By switching to Aftership's API, they can now more easily connect to more shippers. Currently Aftership connects to 348 shippers.

It is incredibly awful and always delayed in updating. So the second part of my question - does the Customer now receive this incredibly useless link where they can no longer 'manage' their shipment with the carrier unless they 'copy' the tracking #, then 'click through' 2 screens (if they understand what to do) in order to arrive at the Carrier's website?

Since I only use one Carrier, is there a way for me to recode how that auto-populates (back to the way it always was as I did not install this App). Truly does seem somewhat moronic as most programs try to reduce the number of 'click thru's' specifically for users 'on the go'.

This is really not acceptable.

I certainly appreciate it. Although this may be appropriate and more inclusive for the developer this will do nothing for Customers, Customer Relations and likely create unnecessary communication to sellers. It could almost look like a fraudulent. Customers do not want to 'hunt' for Tracking and if I received this link, I would likely never order from that company again...people want to be taken directly to the Carrier Website for convenience, fast results and Security reasons.

Any insights on how to change the code and/or locations?

There is no way to change this code, unfortunately. The use of a single API that can handle so many more carriers is what they are doing now. Maintaining a separate code for each is much less practical, and more difficult to keep track of. Hence they only were able to handle about 5 carriers. A decision was made to provide a more wide ranging service. I have passed along your comments to Bigcommerce. Unfortunately, that is the best we can do, we do not have any control over development.

No way to do this? You (or they) really mean unless I pay a programmer? Might as well close up shop right now - oh right I just paid my annual contract. With all the news (particularly around heavy shipping days) about parcel theft right at your door and fake Shipping Notifications sent to Consumers - this API Shipping Notification looks about as fake as they come and lets not forget how completely unprofessional this is. WOW...I recently praised BC and although have not always been happy with 'backend' interruptions, this puts them in a whole new range of 'cheap'.

There are two place I can think that would need change: Customer Account - monitor shipping; and E-mail Shipping Notification. This API is not acceptable. I have already had contact from customers regarding the information provided (actually like myself, at first I thought USPS changed their system. Our Customers make arrangements with USPS (through the convenience of our Shipping Notification) all the time to make delivery arrangements for sensitive material.

This is NOT acceptable.

Any info/word on being able to add code that would autopopulate the Tracking Number with link to USPS at least in Shipping Notice E-mail (happy to add the code separately in addition to this regular useless link)? I have now been asked if the store was 'hacked' because they are not familiar with 'autoship' and have difficulty locating how to 'get' USPS. Some closing the 'tab' automatically afraid it is a virus (as here is the USA, Customers are used to seeing a USA Carrier tracking site).

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Tracking Code for Shipping Notice?.

I'm told that this should work as it did before. Reasons why it may not is if you select a method outside of the USPS Endicia methods or use another app outside of the control panel, or possibly if you already had Aftership installed. Do any of these things apply?

again...sorry for the delay (not receiving replies). I have never changed anything from the original shipping methods provided in BC (when set up 2/3 years ago?). We do this manually for rates and USPS was always the choice carrier.

We have never installed any Apps and certainly not 'AfterShip' and we do not have USPS Endicia Account because (to the best of my knowledge) it is a 'live' rate provider/label printer which does not work for us as all product packaging differs and we do not print/pay for shipping online.

That might be the issue. BigCom did specify USPS Endicia. Let me check on that.

USPS Endicia (from the start) was an Optional real time method NOT part of their standard shipping setup.

Just a note - I noticed earlier this week that my Shipping link does go to USPS website (at least in admin - I have not tried a test to see if customer e-mails are linked to USPS but guessing they are - will test and advise if an issue). Thanks to whom ever handled this as I very much appreciate it.
