Background needs to be centered. It aligns left even though I have it set to "center align"

I am looking to center my background. My background settings are set to "center align." I have images, text and background set up looking just as I want in my sitebuilding page.

When I preview my page there is a problem....the background image is aligned to the left and repeats on the right edge. This throws the background off from the rest of the image and text.

Years ago I had a site through homestead and had this same issue. I was given some kind of html or java to plug in and it fixed the problem. I have searched the internet on how to fix and have got myself all confused. My strengths are illustration and animation. My weakness.....html and web design!!! Any help would be appreciated.

Official Response
Hi Jamiec8882,

Sorry for the confusion, this is a common question. The Centering feature basically centers all the content on your page, but not the actual background image. When you import an image using the background feature, it automatically places the image at the upper left corner of the screen. Then when someone stretches their browser window the other content centers, but the background starts to repeat in a 'tile effect".

To get around this, just change the background to a solid color, then go back to the editor and import the same background image as a regular picture. Once you have it on the page you can resize it, and layer it behind all the other contents on the page.

Let me know if you need more detailed instructions and I'll be happy to help you out.

Works perfectly Mike! So simple....I can't believe I did not think of that!

Now I can finish things up. That was what was holding me back.

I am wondering if this is the same problem I am having .... I don't really have a background image though ... just the whole page is centered correctly on the home page but all other pages are either way to the left or slightly toward the center (not all the way to the left or centered but something in between). so I think I may have a different yet similar question? Help!? :-)

Hi Carol2289, You are correct, although your problem is similar there is something a little different, and it may have to do with the code in the head tag. I see that this was custom designed site. Can you tell me when you first noticed that only the home page was centering?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Problem centering contents on page.

I am experiencing this problem also and am not using simple store. In fact, I was thinking of publishing my site because it looked great but noticed this problem this evening.

Note: This topic was created from a reply on the Editor view different than preview topic.

I merged your post into this topic as it's non-related to the Simplestore where you posted. Your issue is that you have some of your pages centered but not others. My advice is to follow the steps above in the "official response" so that your background centers with the rest of the content.

Hey mike just saw this hoping to would help me out and still can not figure it out. I had an image up on the site and it came in grid format. Tried setting the background to a solid color and importing my desired image and no luck. Imported image was uploaded and would not stretch to fit screen. what I want to do is fit to screen and lock background image. Have the image scale to size depending on the browser.

Sorry, but the SiteBuilder is not capable of doing what you describe. To make an image auto-adjust to the size of the browser, it is fairly complex and requires custom CSS code. You may however be able to search the internet and find instructions or code that someone else has written and try it.

If you can find this css code how do you then add it? I am having the same issue. I want the image to stretch across the screen in the background. Not just the "live area"...

Try 1250. When you save and publish it it is centered. But I still see on left and right side the green checker color. I wish I could have it changed. But at least it's centered.

You have a pattern set as the background. Switch it to color and you won't see the green pattern anymore
