As the title suggests...I am having issues when typing Japanese text within my site.

The issue:
  • The current available fonts do not display the kanji well...they become smaller than the accompanying hIragana and katakana, and cannot be made bold.
  • I am curently using the default "Open Sans" within paragraph and headings.

Question:
  • Is there a preset font that avods this issue, or any other (easy/quick/non-HTML) suggestion?

All input much appreciated.

Hello,

Unfortunately, we don't have any suggested font for this. My best suggestion would be to create separate text boxes whenever you are going to type kanji. That way, you can change the size of this text specifically to make it as large as needed to display well.

Hi Elyzabeth,

Many thanks for the reply, but alas typing in Japanese does not work like that...a sentence contains a mixture of kanji and hiragana/katakana. Therefore, you cannot separate them into different text boxes...without having many, many boxes for a single sentence!

The other issue is the current default fonts are not showing in a uniform manner between the three alphabets.

Basically, Homestead needs to add a default font capable of inputting/displaying Asian alphabets.

Shouldn’t be too difficult to set up at all...You have until Friday, OK...TIA!?! ;-)

(Am happy to test it for Homestead!)

Hello,

I can certainly pass the suggestion along to our development team, but I cannot guarantee that this will become a feature. You are the first person that I've heard of to request this. It is definitely not something that is going to be changed by Friday. If you need to add this text, I suggest you start looking into adding it via HTML or an image.

At last, first to something, my Mother will be proud! ;-)

Please do forward the request as I may be the first, but an additional feature of an Asian-friendly font may prove to become a feature/asset for Homestead...especially with the 2020 Olympics just around the corner in Japan.

Text as images...hmmm...will they adjust well to viewing screen size variation?

HTML...if only I had the time...I will search for a quick fix...can you recommend any useful sites for this issue?

Thank you for your continued support to this Homestead member of almost 20 years!

I will definitely forward the request.

It would require you to test to see how the text would look displayed as an image.

For the HTML, if you Google "Word to HTML" you should find a tool for this.

Sigh...turned all the text into JPEG’s ...took an eternity...looks OK at 100%, but it doesn’t move or wrap with screen size variation, and doesn’t appear sharp with movement.

Would still very appreciate an Asian friendly, kanji-friendly font...”Meiryo” is marvellous!

I have sent this request to our developers; however, if this is going to be a feature they add, changes like this don't tend to happen quickly. So, if this is something you need soon, you might want to look into adding it via HTML. I'm sorry the image didn't work like you wanted them to.
