Adding pop-up to home page

I would like to ad a pop-up to my home page to invite people to sign up for my newsletter. I use Vertical Response as my email marketing software and have created the pop-up form in Vertical Response. The HTML code for the pop-up is:

<script src="https://marketingsuite.verticalresponse.com/c/Z1e6Ly5--Z-Zu5r9kXKaug.js"></script>;

I am instructed to "Paste this code into your website at the end of your page, just before the </body> tag."

Question... How can I access the HTML code on my home page so I can paste the HTML code before the </body> tag? OR...can I insert the HTML code in the JavaScript (onload) or JavaScript (ononload) fields under Page Settings -> Advanced Settings?

Hello Robert Meagher
You would place that into an HTML box. Click Insert > More > HTML.

A pop up box is definitely a good way to get people to sign up for a newsletter, but I do want to warn that it can be frustrating if you have repeat visitors to your site.

Hello Elyzabeth. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. First, thank you for pointing out the potential for frustrating repeat visitors to my site. I can resolve this issue by programming the pop-up to only appear the first time a person visits the website. Vertical Response is very clever that way! :-)

Second, I tried to insert the HTML code in an HTML box on the home page. This did not work. When I published the page, all that came up was a blank, white web page! No pop-up or page!!! The active web browser window was blank, white!

Do you know if I can insert the HTML code in the JavaScript (onload) or JavaScript (ononload) fields under Page Settings -> Advanced Settings?

Does anyone at Homestead have experience with this?

Kind regards,

Robert

Hmm, it is definitely odd that it blanked out your page like that. I might recommend re-copying the code from Vertical Response, just in case anything was missed.
The HTML element is the only place it could go. The Java Script onload and unonload would not work.

Hmmm, indeed! I tried inserting the code again via a HTML element and the same result. The home page comes up blank, pure white screen. Any further suggestions? Can I resend the code and ask you have the development team test it out?

Unfortunately we really can't troubleshoot 3rd party code. Just from looking at the code though, I feel like there is probably more to it. It seems pretty short for something that is suppose to have as much function as it is suppose to have. I would recommend contacting Vertical Response to get the full HTML code for it.

Hello Elyzabeth. I followed up with Vertical Response. In order to integrate a pop-up form I need to be able to access the body of the HTML code for the page I want to integrate the pop-up form on. I need to paste this code into your website page at the end of the page, just before the </body> tag. Can I get access to the body of the HTML code for the home page of my website?

Hello Robert Meagher

Yes, that is the way to paste code before the </body> tag. It is the HTML element we tried yesterday.

Okay, then there is something wrong on the Homestead end. Can you please escalate this up the technical support line to investigate? Thank you, Elyzabeth.

Hello Robert Meagher

I am definitely tech support here. Unfortunately, this isn't something that we could troubleshoot. The code is 3rd party. Not all HTML will work with Homestead, and we can't troubleshoot another companies code. I will say again, and I did get another opinion, the code you have seems too short to actually have the functionality you are looking for it to have.

Thank you, Elyzabeth. Does Homestead have any 'code' I could use to create a pop-up on my Home page?

Robert,

On this builder, we do not have this element. If you were to rebuild your site in our newest builder, Website Builder, then we do have this element available. If you build the site yourself, it would only cost the time it takes to build it, it wouldn't increase your billing. Add a new site in Websites Manager and it will automatically be created in the newer builder.

Otherwise, you can look into Constant Contact. I know that they work with Homestead:
