After adding the code for a favicon on my website page, now a small snippet of html code is showing up on the upper left side of my page.  How can I make this to not show on my page?

It looks like you inserted the favicon code into the middle of another snippet and that is now causing it to display. The code needs to be fixed.

There is quite a bit of code in the Head tag html section.  Where should the favicon code be placed?  I put it at the beginning of the section, the code immediately after is showing up on the page.

There is actually quite a lot of code in there, but the favicon snippet is place in the middle of the canonical code. The canonical code should look like this,
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.domain.com/page.html">

The favicon code should look like this:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.yourdomainname.com/favicon.ico" />

You can place the favicon before or after the canonical, but now they are jumbled together.
