I received the following email:

Dear Sirs,

We are Hua Hai Ltd based in chinese office, our company has submitted the " nyswinterclassic " as CN/ASIA(nyswinterclassic.asia, nyswinterclassic.cn, nyswinterclassic.com.cn, nyswinterclassic.net.cn, nyswinterclassic.org.cn domain name and Internet Keyword " nyswinterclassic ", we are waiting for Mr. Mike's approval. We think these names are very important for our business in China and Asia market, so we have to register this name, and we believe that we can successfully register this name. Even though Mr. Mike advises us to change another name, we will persist in this name, no one can stop our registration.

Best regards

Chen ZhiFeng

Is this something I should be concerned about? Will this affect my internet traffic? If so, how can I protect my site and name?

Hello,

If you have that business name registered, you could go to court to fight them; however, it is not likely that them doing this will affect your traffic. They are in a different country. It is equally unlikely that any of your page visitors will accidentally type .asia, .com.cn, .cn, or any of the other domains they are talking about registering. This type of email is usually a scare tactic to lead up to you paying them money to have them not "compete" with you. It is typically a scam.

Ok, that is what I thought might be happening. Thank you!
