Why the change to Bigcommerce?
We want to provide the best possible ecommerce solution to our customers, so we decided to leave Prostores for Bigcommerce – our research shows it’s a far superior ecommerce solution compared with Prostores.

Is this change required – and why now?
This change is required because we’re transitioning to Bigcommerce. We realize the timing isn’t ideal, but we want you to have all the best ecommerce features as soon as possible. The change will give you a built in Facebook version and mobile version of your store. We want to quickly help you capture a larger market than ever before. This change needs to be completed by December 31, 2013.

How will I access my Bigcommerce store?
We will send you your login information via email. You’ll be accessing your account via the Bigcommerce website at the Bigcommerce website.

What do I need to do to after my store is converted to Bigcommerce?

You will have four required steps to make your new store functional:

EXPORT YOUR ORDER HISTORY: If you would like to maintain a record of your customers order history from the Prostores system, you can export a csv file with this data. View Help Topic.

What will Homestead do for you?

Move your store data: We will move your products and customers to Bigcommerce for you. When we notify you that your Bigcommerce store is ready, we recommend that you check on a few products to make sure everything is correct.

Move your Images: We will move images if a product is marked as active. We are trying to move images for products that are inactive or are hidden as a result of no inventory.

Simulate your store design: We can’t move the actual template or design from Prostores to Bigcommerce. However, the themes available to Bigcommerce customers are excellent and are also customizable using standard HTML. We'll do our best to make your new store look as close as possible to your old store.


• Update comparison shopping information: If you are currently using Google Analytics and any comparison shopping, you will need confirm if it is still working. There might be a need to do some additional work, but the Bigcommerce integration and options are far superior.

• Store promotions: We will not be able to move your promotions automatically, but Bigcommerce offers an excellent array of options for promotions.

Will there be a change in price?
We will be keeping the price the same. You will be receiving a far superior online store at a much lower price than non-Homestead customers.

What do I do if my store was designed by Homestead within the last year?
If you had us design your store within the past year then we will be reaching out to you in the coming weeks.

Will my customers log in the same way?
Your customers will be able to log in, but they will have to reset their password the first time they log in because we are not able to retrieve password information from Prostores.

How will this affect my URL?
Your URL will remain unchanged.

Can I still use my merchant account and/or Paypal?
All the merchant accounts supported by Prostores are also supported by Bigcommerce, except Linkpoint, but Bigcommerce has many more options than Prostores when it comes to getting paid, and it is very easy to get started. Bigcommerce partners with over 60 gateways.

Will I gain/lose options?
• Your store can be placed on Facebook, to take advantage of your social networking fans.
• With Bigcommerce, there’s really good integration with the App Store, like Doba, QuickBooks, and Constant Contact, plus many others.
• You will now have access to use FedEx, USPS, UPS, and your own calculated shipping all at the same time if you wish, and also cleanly restrict shipment to areas you don’t want to ship to (i.e. international). There are also configurations for many international shippers.
• Bigcommerce doesn’t directly support subscriptions, affiliates, and drop shipping. However, Bigcommerce has an open API and large App Store. You may be able to find 3rd party applications that you can add to your store that may replace these features.

How will my store work on mobile devices?
You can easily create a mobile optimized store for smartphone shoppers. This is a fantastic opportunity. Half the adults in the U.S. have a smartphone and shopping from these devices soared in 2012 and is expected to continue to rise. More than 50% of your visitors will be using a mobile phone. According to a survey conducted by Nielsen in Q1 2012, the vast majority (79%) of US smartphone and tablet owners have used their mobile devices for shopping-related activities. Also, Google has recently announced that web sites that aren’t mobile-friendly will be demoted or deleted from mobile search results in the future.

How will this affect my search results?
• The marketing tools included with Bigcommerce are going to positively contribute to your SEO efforts.
• We expect your conversion rate to improve (people that visit your new store will become valued customers and return to your store).
• The ability to customize your product URLs is a great SEO practice, so you can add keywords into the URL
• It’s possible you will experience an initial ranking dip, but we expect a rapid recovery. The improved look of your store should increase conversion and make up for any short term reduction in visitors.

Will my customers be able to place orders in my store during the transition?
Yes, you will have access to both stores during the transition. The domain will stay on your Prostores store until you want to switch it, but this must be done on or before December 31, 2013.

Can I still sell downloadable products?
Absolutely, in fact, the size limit on the files has increased to 512MB.

You will still have an unlimited number of products you can add to the store.
