Ghost emails

Months ago, I deleted an email address from an employee that was terminated. There are malicious content messages being sent using that deleted email address. I know this because I get an occasional returned message or comment from a customer that I am transmitting invoice requests that contain malicious content from this deleted email address. Is there any way to stop this?
