Inserting Images Result in Thumbnail Only

I am trying to import various types of images including photos in jpeg format and a logo in png format. The problem is that these images are only importing as small thumbnails which I am not able to enlarge. It is also eratic as sometimes photos import correctly in full size and other times they import as thumbnails. Thanks in advance for your help.
